Re: Chris Judda$

Hawkamania!, it's a wonder Carlton ever win ANY games with an awful awful midfield headed by Murphy and Judd, hey? Teams could do a lot worse than a Judd-Murphy 1-2 punch, and many teams do.
I'm a fan of Murphy. Adding Curnow has improved your team this year along with a more developed defence. Your game plan revolving around judd is detrimental to Carlton taking the next step this year.

Worst post on Judd I have ever read. He is the opposite of a seagull type. The king of hardball contested footy.
I threw a few chips out outside Docklands one day and its the fastest I've seen judd move trying to catch them. Unfortunately for him, the chips were over his head and he failed to catch a single one.

This is the kind of sardonic response reserved for low quality posts such as yours. BTW, is this one of robert walls' bigfooty aliases?

Going by the Champion Data Player Ranking score (arguably the best catch-all statistical measurement of a player's overall impact, considering it values efficiency, contested ball, forward-moving disposals and defensive efforts, as much as sheer volume of possession, as well as giving extra weighting to actions that turn the tide of the game, like a crucial mark, goal, kick or tackle), the winners from the past 5-6 years would have been:
  • 2010 - Brendon Goddard (St Kilda) - 131.1 (25 games)
  • 2009 - Gary Ablett (Geelong) - 139.4 (22 games)
  • 2008 - Gary Ablett (Geelong) - 132.0 (21 games)

While in the end, stats are just a number on a page, I don't think the CDPR is too far off of getting it right when it comes to judging who is having the greatest impact on the games that are played.

It shows how useless stats are in judging a footballers input when you see how high Goddard is on that list ..the bloke is struggling big time this year to have any impact and yet he's 25th.

These stats take a lot of one percenters into account. The little things that may not be a contested mark or a hand ball get, but are enough to help others on the team like a bump that allows a team mate to collect a possession.

I have far more faith in these rankings than votes from umpires.

You're losing credibility. Fast.

If Andrew Swallow is the 12th best player in the AFL this year I'll eat myself

Keep digging ..you are just making yourself look even more ignorant.....Judd has won every award in the competition ..and mostly multiple times ..he didn't win them by being a hack ...even a troll like you shoul realise that .

Are you for real? Do you actually watch Judd play or just the one or two highlights from the news' sport report? Or are you so heavily influenced by how the media talk about him about how his constant turnovers are 'uncharacteristic' and how he's always 'fighting hard for the ball'?

Go and actually watch Judd. Not Carlton, just Judd. Watch how he sits around packs waiting and hoping for his teammates to win the REAL contested ball and dish out to him for a 'seagull' possession. Watch how he does nothing physical in the game and when something physical is done to him, he'll sniper them knowing he can get away with it coz he's the AFL's Golden Boy.

Not the best timing to criticize Judd considering tonights game.

He had a ridiculous amount of clearances in the second half.

You are right. He needs to learn how to win a contested ball and not seagull around....

Anybody that thinks that Judd is an overrated, 'seagull-like' player has absolutely no idea about footy.

He is the single most influential player in the game and has been for quite some time. People say his kicking is deficient - it's certainly not his best quality but he is well above the AFL average.

Arguably his greatest skill is 50/50 situations. He doesnt lose them. When he's around the ball he gets it every time - not to mention his clearance work, 14 tonight!

He's an incredible leader, and anyone who writes him off is a nimwit.

any club would be very content to have him - a true champion.

Once he starts performing like this on a regular basis, then maybe you blue supporters can start comparing him to Swan.

Judd's been doing that regularly since before Swan even knew who Swan was.

Swan's been the better player over the last year and a bit but there's not as much in it as Collingwood supporters would like to think. While Swan racks it up and kicks goals, very, very few footballers are capable of the game that Judd produced tonight.

A prime example of why stats will never tell the whole story. His influence on the game was out of this world.
