Chris Judd's Kicking Efficiency

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

On another note, I dont rate Ablett as an elite kick either. There is something about the trajectory of his kicking that puts me off - simply not penetrating enough.

That needs another thread. But he kicks goals on the run from 55!!
Yes it surprises the crap out of me too.

Not sure about the trajectory thing, I've never noticed.

Probably has better accuracy and feel for depth than any player I have seen in 30 years at the cats

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Was never a particularly good kick, even in his wce days. His kicking to leading forwards would often go over their heads or fall short.

Exactly. Since when has anyone ever stated that Judd is one of the best kicks in the game? I and a few mates used to nickname him Chris Junk in his West Coast days. Still an unbelievable player. I don't think he'll ever become the silky skilled type unless he becomes more outside. Thankfully though, he's a contested footy player.

Always remembered Ken Hinkley as a beautiful kick.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Diesel had a couple of years with the Cats too.

Yeah fair call. Gaz is a bigger kick than diesel though, but diesel kicked a harder ball if that makes sense.

Hinkley kicked plenty of helicopters. And had an incredible ability to kick 1.6 from straight in front.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Please this is because Judd often gets the hard ball with far less protection then GAJ meaning he is under far more pressure then GAJ who often gets IMO easy outside possessions

Happy to be corrected on the efficiency - perhaps it was just his action - just looked smooth and almost laconic

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Judd is a clearance specialist. He is average overhead and his kicking is below average IMO but he bust packs like few if any in the AFL can and that is invaluable IMO.

I think their is a valid argument to say he's overrated, particularly by commentators and more specifically, Robert Walls.

In saying that how many clearance players are as dynamic as Judd? IMO perhaps only Ablett in the entire AFL can match him in that regard and in the end his ability to wins matches makes him an elite player in the AFL.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Look, he does miss a bit with his kicking and I noticed it last night but you have to laugh at some of these clowns who are saying he is not one of the top 2 or 3 players in the game. Look at the impact he has had on Carlton since returning from suspension.
An inspirational hard ball winner. No doubt.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Last night caught a few minutes of the saints blues game.

Chris Judd was on the run in the centre square and kicked it out of bounds without any pressure on him. A minute later, he allowed Brendon Goddard I think it was to kick a goal on him, ie allowed himself to be a defensive leak.

He's a champion but he has deficiencies in his game.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Judds kicking action is to highly strung. Had more time to get some more composure at westcoast. Footballs changed and DE is now all important, missed targets once forgotten are now noticed by all.

Let's hope that restrictions on interchanges, fixes that.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

Judd's always Sewell's bitch.

See the Rd6 game last year. Judd was flying until we sent Sewell onto him in the final term. Judd got 4 ineffective disposals in that quarter. Sewell dominated it.

Judd's just not the player he was.

Correct. I was thinking Carlton should start hiding him in the back 50, minding a nobody from the opposition, with no tagger in sight, whilst running behind team mates to rack up stats, easy possessions & the unwarranted plaudits of the media?

Except Judd doesn't have the versitility to do anything else.

You can get stuffed if you are going to call someone like Judd overrated.

What is the would coming to? Please people, keep you kids at school past year 11 .

He wasn't overrated when he was a Brownlow Medallist and Premiership Captain, but I do feel he gets talked up on reputation as opposed to actual performances these days. He is still a fantastic footballer, but he has passed his peak and is not taking games apart as he used to. He is an integral part of Carlton's midfield but sometimes I feel sorry for guys like Gibbs, Murphy and even Scotland who seem to get overshadowed by Judd, even if they have seemed to play better.

I have a very strong suspicion that if you had the opportunity to ask those guys about it, they'd be more than happy with the situation.

Sure, but they deserve plaudits when they're due. Judd seems to get talked as BOG every time Carlton win, but there's almost always someone who was just as good if not better who hardly gets a mention.

He's still a super player, but he's not as good as the media rate him anymore.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

His kicking isn't a strong point. When he was draft it was a major weakness of his and it was the ? mark to whether he was going to make it at AFL. Obviously its not BAD, however it could be better. He's an average kick, no more no less, there are way worse out there but there are alot better as well. If he had a say Drummond like kick he'd be out of this world.

Do you think Drummond would kick as well if he was playing in the midfield, with players hunting in packs? As pointed out by another poster, defenders mostly have the best kicking efficiency in the competition. It is not unusual to see a defender finish a game with 100% disposal efficiency.

Re: Chris Judd's Kicking Effecieny

A lot of his kicks are around the body from packs. That's not going to help your efficiency much. He needs his Carlton midfielders like Gibbs and Simpson who are better kicks to be ready for the handball off more.

Didn't he get the Norm Smith in 2005 with pretty average kicking efficiency?
