I think Ebert has the hallmarks of being a top flight player.

Masten - I just don't think we have seen the best of him yet so I would say Ebert but you make this call in maybe 3 seasons time.

In 5 seasons I am certain it will be a close call between Palmer Masten Ebert Myers Morton and Cotchin

I am guessing it will go Cotchin Palmer Ebert Myers Masten Morton at this early stage.

although i am firmly in the naitanui camp, i think we do need another young, potentially a-grade mid. Swift this year (at 18, hopefully), and then the best mid possible with our first pick next year. We have the strength and versatility of ebert, and the clearance and tackling of masten, all we need is some genuine breakaway pace and we will have a very very good midfield unit in development.

I'm certain when I say we haven't seen the best of him yet. But from what I've seen so far of a first year player, in only 9 games, playing with mild OP, I'm pleased so far.

they play different roles so quit comparing
Well, they're both midfielders.

It's not like it's a comparison between Cox and LeCras.

Are player comparisons only valid if the players are clones of one another?

Besides, why can't we make a comparison between players who fill different roles? Is it bad karma or something?

The whole "they play different roles so you can't compare" line is a complete cop-out. In our premiership side, who was better out of Judd and Seaby? Are you unable to answer that question because they played different roles?

Palmer will end up towards the other end of that line ;)

I believe that Ebert will end up being a Jimmy Bartell type player.....run all day ..cool under pressure ..great team man.
Matsen on the other hand shows all the signs of being another Kerr with better kicking skills......breaks the lines ...quick with hands.etc.

What about Rich? Will he be the next Ricciuto?

If only we could now find the next Ablett, Franklin, Voss and Carey as well.

From what I saw Masten was very impressive. He will be a very good player. I still believe he will be better than Palmer once he gets over his OP. :thumbsu:

Ebert looks like he is going to be the better player. He seems to me like he is going to be like Michael Braun was for the club. A very reliable midfielder, tough nut, a lot of courage. Probably wont be as flashy as Masten might be, but he will be the better player.

Ben, flashy and Masten don't go in the same sentence, not for me anyway. He's the guy you miss is even on the field, because he's pulling himself off the bottom of the pack after firing it out to the outside players, who are running away with it.
