My point was simple, we shouldn't be afraid to get a new coach. We won't be making a Prelim this year, we'll be fortunate to make the 8, we've recruited for the now and if we don't win a Prelim in the next 2 years it's been an abject failure by any reasonable persons estimation - personally I already think it's been a failure but for the more tolerant of Scott's nonsensical coaching on here we'll give it two years.

I agree to a certain extent blighty I think we should be open to change his record deserves to be resigned. And a new coach right now is too difficult a spot for the club as they will need to find an untried guy I imagine and with this list and strategy its asking a lot you would be setting someone up to sink or swim. So give him his two years see what he can produce or for you not produce. I think a lot have reservations not because he is not a good coach or hasn't been a good coach but the game has evolved so much in the last 5 years. And the new age system we see out of the Simpsons, Beveridge, Cameron ****it it clarkson's system let's just say he Chris Scott never was inside those walls with any of those systems he was at freo under mark Harvey and lethal Leigh. So he needs to innovate and improve. People can tell me about his regular season records etc I get it but our system has been failing in finals the one time of the year you need consistency and solid gameplan to deal with pressure situations we are under a pass mark recently he needs to change that

Chris Scott was untried, as was Bomber.

You have to make a Grand Final to realistically challenge for a premiership and we haven't made one in close to 6 years, you also have to win finals and we've only won a poultry two in that same timeframe, how anybody could say a team that's won two finals in 5 years is continually challenging for a premiership is beyond me! It completely escapes reason.

2013 I believe was a really big opportunity we let slip. That's the big one for mine one qtr away ****ing varcoe

I just caught up on the AFL 360 interview of Chris Scott.

And his answers and expressions towards robbo ( biggest idiot on t.v) below Gerard Healy over reacting to life. Were a bit puzzling I think he knows how tough this year could be from my perspective I have never seen him do an interview and be so defensive. Usually he is pretty glass half full guy lol kinda

I find him robotic......the only one who speaks with more cliches is Damian Hardwick

9? No Hawthorn flag team had 9 players traded in from other clubs, the most they had was 6.

Article titled
How Hawthorn’s three-peat premiership success was built at the trade table

But it’s at the trade table where the Hawks have strengthened significantly.

Saturday’s premiership-winning team featured seven players who had moved from a different club. They had a further four in reserve.

The article says 7 starting best 18 with four adding to depth in reserve. 7 of your fielding 18 is a lot, over 1/3 of your side recycled. That's a lot. Also an extra 4 in reserves coming in and out.

Bottom line, they wouldn't have won any of those 3 without the significant trading they did. It was as equal in significance as their drafting was

Bizarre. The last thing I'd accuse Chris Scott of being is robotic and riddled with cliches

You obviously don't watch closely enough......or you're equally boring

Lol please name for me these coaches who discuss their game plans and areas opposition tactically exposed them beyond generic "contested ball" or " flooded or rebounded" ?

Anyone who thinks Scott is being arrogant or such because he doesn't go into the details of or game plan with the media is pretty much an idiot and needs to understand about the media training clubs have and how they are advised not to go into those details.

The common sense that is lost in here is becoming remarkable

I didn't see the interview you are talking about, but I've seen many and he generally comes across as polished, and articulate. I think his media presence is one of his strengths. Maybe you're too exciting?

Lol.......talk about conflating a point.

Nice melt though :straining:

So you didn't see this interview so you don't know if he was talking in cliches?

Got it

As was Ayres, as was (as coach only) Blight.

I think Hafey was the last senior coach we had who had done the job elsewhere. Minus Blight's 16 games in charge of North in 1981.

blight coached woodville in the SANFL for 5 seasons before going to geelong...

In one side? I thought they had tonnes and were a mercenary side. 6 is not as dis-pure as I had imagined.

What about if you add up their recruits from all 3 of their premierships?

Mate someone has to use common sense in here. It can't all be reverse sewerage flowing into the Geelong board.
End of a tough day......tram ride home, I'm just projecting ;)

You are right though. Scott's not alone in giving anything away in his interviews. To clarify, I find most interviews with coaches boring and futile.
He and Hardwick particularly grind my gears

Interesting, why would you be so defensive when you've just been re-signed for 3 years?

So you didn't see this interview so you don't know if he was talking in cliches?

Correct, but I was initially responding to what reads as a general comment by you, i.e., "I find him robotic......the only one who speaks with more cliches is Damian Hardwick". That was what I was responding to. Anyway....

It's just the standard across the board. If your after insightful and details of team tactics and what went wrong they are never going to spill their findings. Better watch shows like on the couch and 360 to watch stuff like that.

On a tram? You have room to even lift your hand up? Must not be a tram out of the cbd then

7 of 22. As I said Burgoyne and Gunston were recruited well before free agency was introduced, we've built up our mercenary list since free agency, in fact it could be argued because of it. Also you've yet to explain why we took a Hawthorn like recruiting strategy when they had an elite core group of players and we had just two decent players? Why would anybody look at Geelong at that time with just two elite players and think we could build through trades when it's clear a deeper rebuild was necessary and we weren't even close to having the same list talent and structure as Hawthorn?
