Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

Yep, him or Colyer. Both would be great in a forward pocket to round out the team.
I forgot about Colyer,How about Winmar?Or is that abit early for him.I hope we don,t do a deal for our 1st pick.I would really like us to get another early 1st round youngster.eg Lucas, rohan,Tapscott,Martin all sound pretty exciting to me.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

obviously happy with lucas:)
and with our second round pick can see dockers taking duncan b4 he reaches us and theres a good chance we'll have the option of Jetta, colyer or Ah chee.
Out of those 3 id go jetta 1st, colyer 2nd and Ah chee 3rd

but great job, good read:thumbsu:

oh yea and would love to get fyfe in third round:D

Its interesting to read these phantom drafts to see who people see as real potential draftees for the coming season, it is also interesting to note last years draft was talked up as one of the best draft in the past decade, and i would have to agree it has proven to be just that, with the number of draft players debuting in this their first year have not let the critics down. But its also interesting to see that we have begun another year of selecting who will go where and in most i have read have not considered any of last years potential draftees who missed out, such as Purves, Sengstock, Shannon, Klemke, Milne to name a few, surely these guys would be considered in this years draft considering the depth of last years draft.

Is it a matter if you don't make the first draft as a 18 year old your forgotten????

Panos was available last year (if you can beleive it).

And on Gysberts/Grimes - youre right it too early to use Grimes as a comparison, and in any case we have a few similar I would have thought.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

pretty good effort this one - i reckon you under-rate dylan mcneil a fair bit though. i think he has the ability to be a brent harvey/nathan foley type.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

I think that Richmond should get morribito at #2 the melbourne recruiting manager said he is a very similar to pavlich he can play key forward or midfield Richmond need this guy!!!

We already have a player like that and his name is Brett Deledio. People think that Morabito will go to Richmond but we don't need another outside recieving quick mid. We need a tough inside mid with elite kicking skills.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

Good job, id be wrapped with Gysberts, Carey and Wanganeen.

Would love a rohan or cunnington to slide to our first pick but really cant see it happening

Deldio isnt like Morabito. Butcher will slide right down now imo. Morabito is a gun and he is more like Adam Goodes. He will be an absolute clone if he is still growing from 192cm.

Morabito isnt really an outside player, hes a power athlete and is one of those lpayers that has the ability to win a close game off his own boot purely by jumping higher, running faster and lpaying with more adrenaline than his oponent. Whilst he isnt an elite kick he is going to be a star and I doubt you could look past him if he falls to pick 3. Cunnington or Martin will be the other players you guys will consider but Morabito is the best imo.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

no offence intended to anyone whatsoever with this, but how many who are selecting ah chee have actually seen him play? ive seen plenty of vision of him and will be surprised if he goes at all, much less top 30. miles of things to work on and bear in mind, he couldnt even get a league game at norwood who were a long way from finals in sanfl this year.

I agree 100% Morabito is richmonds best choice or cunnington

Morabito had the same kicking efficiency as scully at the U18's championships so he isn't that bad of a kick

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

PP-Melb - Scully
1-Melb - Trengove
2-Rich - Butcher
3-Freo - Morabito
4-Kanga - Rohan
5-Syd - Martin
6-Wce - Lucas
7-Port - Tapscott

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

#17 Melbourne - Matthew Panos
They have Watts and Jurrah, but they still need another option up forward. Panos will offer them a solid target out of the goal square, and will take the pressure off Jurrah.
#18 Richmond - Jake Carlisle
Riewoldt and Morton seem better suited to being the 2nd and 3rd forwards, Carlisle is an exciting option up forward and could prove to be the target they so desperately need
#19 Fremantle - Lewis Jetta
Jetta is arguably the next best midfielder in the draft, with his speed and skills he will be a key player at Subi and will form a very nice partnership with Hill
#20 North Melbourne - Andrew Moore
North have a few young midfielders already, but not a great deal of versatility. Moore will offer this, and should offer a lot more than both Edwards and Corey Jones.
#21 Sydney - Ben Griffiths
After taking Rohan with their first pick, Sydney will look to take a tall and Sydney seem to like versatility in their talls
#22 West Coast - Mitch Duncan
West Coast should be extremely happy to have Duncan available here, as he could very well go earlier. Will add to their young midfield stocks
#23 Port Adelaide - Ryan Bastinac
The Port midfield doesn't have a great deal of run, with the exception of Rodan and Pearce, both of whom are very inconsistent. Bastinac will provide the run, after Tapscott gets the ball out to him
#24 Hawthorn - Roland Ah Chee
Hawthorn have quite a few players capable of playing as inside mids, but speed seems to be one area in which they are lacking. Ah Chee would offer them not only speed, but also solid skills and the ability to play both inside and outside
#25 Essendon - Jake Melksham
Having drafted an inside midfielder in the first round, Essendon will look to an outside midfielder. Melksham could be one player who is a bolter on draft day
#26 Carlton - Jesse Crichton
Carlton need a key forward or key defender, but they should still be available come the third round whereas there are still quality midfielders on the table and Crichton is one such quality midfielder
#27 Brisbane - Daniel Menzel
Looks to be a good young prospect, capable of playing both midfield and off half back. Could be used to free up Drummond, Adcock or McGrath.
#28 Adelaide - Alex Carey
Personally, I don't rate either Shirley or Doughty at all. Carey would offer the Crows a genuine big bodied inside midfielder, to hopefully take over from one of these guys. Would add some toughness to a young midfield including Vince and Mackay
#29 Collingwood - Ryan Harwood
Harwood is another player who could go earlier and looks to be a very good midfield prospect, I'd imagine Collingwood would be willing to put in the development
#30 Western Bulldogs - Travis Colyer
How much longer can Akermanis go on? Although I don't rate Colyer as highly as some seem to do, he could be a good option to replace Akermanis with
#31 Geelong - David Astbury
Geelong have Brown and Gillies, but another option down back wont hurt them especially with Harley and Scarlett ageing. Astbury could also prove to be another option up forward too
#32 St Kilda - Nicholas Winmar
Winmar could be anything, and the Saints can definitely afford to take a shot with him. He'll add some flash to the team, and with that last name how could he not go to the Saints?

Well sorry but i would say Gary Jr. Abletts opinion might out do yours with him saying Shirley and Joseph are the two best run with players he has played on this year. also many adelaide supporters would argue that doughty has been their top 3 midfielders this year. also when shirley was injured did some run with roles such as keep watson under 15 possesions. hmmm.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

I don't really care what Ablett thinks to be honest.

I've been a Crows member for the past 10 years, so I would like to think that I know a bit about them and their players. And in my opinion, neither Shirley or Doughty will be a part of the Crows next premiership team. They are both bit part players, and the fact that Shirley only played 11 games this year would back that up.

Doughty has admittedly had his best season to date, and will be in their best 22 for 2010. But ultimately he offers nothing special and is definitely replaceable. And with the Crows aggressive list management (see Massie and Torney) I would think Doughty will be on his way out at the end of next season.

The Crows have the skilled young midfielders/part time midfielders (Vince, Mackay, Knights, Porplyzia, Otten) as well as some largely untested players in Cook, Sloane, Petrenko and Martin. Now they need the tough young midfielders to compliment this mix, and Carey would offer one such option.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

What has happened with Luke Thompson & Brad Mangan this year?
Both were in phantoms for last year and haven't made your 3 rounds I see.

It's a good thing Gary Ablett didn't say that then.

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

nice work mate.
hope Morabito is available at 4 & a warning 2 Freo. if they don't get Colyer with their second pick the west coast chardonnays will snap him up. in the whole 2 mins or so i saw of him on youtube i could see this was a Brent Harvey type & the eGirls want someone who is small & can play fwd. he could change with lecras out of the fwd pocket. no thanks, let's take him 4 ourself. btw check out my trade idea in the trade forum.
all the best

Re: 2009 Phantom Draft - Version 2

#13 Collingwood - Jack Fitzpatrick
The form of Wood has actually been pretty good in the past month, but I still think Collingwood will go for a ruck option. With Fitzpatrick they'll get one capable of playing up forward too

I think we will most likely go for a KPP with our first pick. In regards to rucks we will almost certainly recruit Jarrod Witts next year as a NSW scholarship player and Shae McNamara this year as an international rookie to add to Fraser, Wood, Keefe and Bryan (may be delisted). Malthouse also tends to use part timers like Leigh Brown and Dawes from time to time. With Keefe, Witts and McNamara that is plenty of developing rucks.

What we really need is either a forward to take the pressure off Anthony and Cloke or cover in KPD when Presti retires. Preferably someone with the versatility who can play both forward and back. I think we would take both Talia and Carlisle over Fitzpatrick for this reason. Panos if he fell as far as you think would also be in contention.

This is just as an aside - if we did go for a ruck we would likely chase a physically mature ruck to complement Wood when Fraser retires. Preferably someone who can move forward and have an impact. If Vardy fell to our pick he is the best ruck option IMO. Fitzpatrick has freaky agility but for a guy that size his contested marking is pretty poor, this is something players his size really need IMO. I really don't think Fitzpatrick fits our needs.
