Watching this kid play he is terrific in and under player and his ability to get the ball to the player in advantage with deft taps and handballs really reminds me of Greg Williams.

He is such a smart player I really think he could become an elite midfielder in a few seasons.

Re: Christensen: The new Diesal?

As I said in another thread, he did more in half a game that most of the Melbourne team did in the entire match today. I think using him as the sub was a clever move: a bit of a rest, but also keeps him playing up at AFL level.

It was a joy watching him play today (along with everyone else!)

We have had our disagreements in the past, but spot on here. The kid looks like he could be anything.:thumbsu:

I don't believe we are overreacting about him either because he's seriously got something very special that I haven't see for a while. Sure I'll admit he's playing in a champion side and it's likely speeding up his development just a little more than if he were in any other side but he makes all the right decision under pressure and is extremely skilled. I never rated him for speed but I saw him put the ball under his arm and then run through the middle and he does have pace. He's couragous and I think your right, could genuinly become an elite midfielder in 18 months time. I can see his transition to Lingy's position looking effortless which is what we all want as the years go by.
If he get's too 80% of Corey's level then our drop from grace isn't so far as experts predicted:thumbsu:

Re: Christensen: The new Diesal?

I can't believe i'm saying it, but i think he is a serious show for All Australian....has been that consistently good (even albeit as a sub early on) that i think his form warrants a utility selection.

1/2 a game of footy again today was enough to blow my mind. Have not seen him put a foot wrong yet....Finals glory is awaiting!

Re: Christensen: The new Diesal?

I wouldn't forget Cowan, dropped this week after being subbed out last week, still gained 10 possessions from limited time and opportunities, he's a hard nut, not to be dismissed.
Yes, Christensen is the real thing, a natural, we're lucky!

Re: Christensen: The new Diesal?

^^ l think your getting carried away there with bundy for AA maybe next year.

I think he is a show for the top 40........seriously. Has been in our top 5 over last two months and i don't think that is over-estimating his impact. Couple more standout games and his name might be mentioned in the higher echelons.

And i would like the record to state that i have been this optimistic since his first game as sub when he came on and just looked to dominate with 11 possies in the last term.

Just can't see a flaw in his game so far!

Re: Christensen: The new Diesal?

another poster a while back said young josh is a real goer and wont be from lack of trying he wont make it at AFL level.he was/is right young josh has a real crack really needs a bit more size on and another pre season he will be better for it.the future looks good on young mids hopefully horlin-smith guthie and shoder gets game next year.

The one thing that we can be certain will be a complete difference between Bundy & Diesel is that our current club administration is never going to let Mk II leave the shores of the Corio.

Bundy has always been a Catter, and will always be a Cat (just as Diesel should have been).

I thought that he added a lot of energy in the center clearances. Seems to liven up play when he comes on to the ground. I have a lot of man love for Mitch Duncan and now Bundy. I could need some diversion therapy very soon.

No chance whatsoever of being AA or even making the squad.... Sorry Gaz

I feel that if he had played every game from the start of the year he would be a massive show at winning the rising star tho...

Will be a great player for us, clean with the ball, puts his head over it and can win his own footy... and seems to have a great footy brain - picks the right option time and time again

No offence to you or Bundy...but list your AA team and I'll show you why that's absurd. The fact is, if Bundy was to make the side, he'd be getting picked ahead of borderline players like Kelly, Corey and Bartel. Which would be ridiculous.

Scarlett is our one lock. Kelly is a probable. Enright and Stevie J would be 50-50. Bartel, Corey and perhaps Chappy are half a chance if they turn it on over the last month (Chappy would have to go nuts, kicking 15 goals or so while averaging 25 touches). That's it. I can't see any other player being in contention. (or even being close, to be honest)

Re: Christensen: The new Diesal?

Yeah, bit too much post game excitement....however, i think his name will be thrown around a bit. Has been nothing short of amazing this season and I would imagine polling very high amongst our B&F. I haven't seen too much of Schuey - but compared with the likes of Heppell or any on the gold coast list I think he rates above them all, and that is testament to how good he actually is so far!!

Heppell at his best and Christensen at his best I would say are on par. Both very good decision makers. Very smart.

The best I have seen potential wise all year is Menzell, although he is starting to look tired. He is a solid unit for a young lad, so maybe that all he has for his first season. His game against Collingwood was amazing. Most first year players in those kind of pressure games get burnt to toast.

I can see it being very difficult for a midfielder in a top-flight team being the Rising Star anytime soon, simply because they are bound to be the sub on multiple occasions.

Missed games are a killer in our b&f and Bundy has already missed six games and been the sub on (from memory) at least three occasions. If he finishes in the top 12 of the b&f, I'd be very surprised. The voting system is five members of the match committee select up to ten players and give them up to ten votes (so a maximum of fifty) each game. Rewards the players who consistently play and do their job, rather than the players who are up and down, or miss extended periods with injury.

Corey, Kelly, Enright and Bartel have all missed just one game and would be all be in our top six. Stevie J and Scarlett will be up there. Lonergan will be top 10. Selwood has played more games than Bundy and will also be in the top 10. Stokes, Ling Chapman and Ottens would be ahead of him. Then there's a further eleven players who have played as many games as him or more (Taylor, Varcoe, Pods, Mackie, both Hunts, Duncan, Wojcinski, Menzel, Ling and Milburn) and I would imagine at least a handful of them would be ahead of him too.

Interesting that his idol was Wanganeen. Wonder if he supported Bombers as a kid. I realise his uncles played for Geelong. But I've been told even Matty Scarlett did NOT follow Geelong?

He mentioned on a clip on before the game he had a life size cut out of Wanganeen and that he lobbed the head off it when he left. Must have been a bombers supporter!

I was suprised on his current form he started as the Sub but he sure as hell made an impact when he came on.

If we can keep him in this touch come finals time he will definitely be an X-factor for us.
