So the fact we got 2 first round picks gives us double the games played . So we are prudent mathematically .
lol...love your logic if it was logical. By using your logic we shouldve kept 2 and traded 20 and 26 for something around pick 8-10 and tripled our games played.

Pick 2 plays 197 games

Pick 8 plays 128
Pick 12 plays 120

according to that graph
take a look at the other measures too

average years to play 20 game season.

pick 2 - 3yrs
pick 8, 12 - 7yrs

% of players that play 150 games+
79% vs 43%

by picking 2 lower draftees you half the likely hood of either reaching these milestones. saying you have 2 of them so equals the one is moronic.

That could be because those holding pick 2 or 3 are fast tracking youth through a rebuild where as those holding a pick around 10 are in finals contention, pushing up into finals aspirations or on a slow decline from playing finals and so they have more seniors to displace and possibly a tendency to play the seniors as they continue to chase a premiership (see Eagles of last few seasons).

Conveniently left out the other picks hey.

What we started with
picks 2, 20, 26, 40
197, 120, 85, 79
481

what we have
picks 8,12,20,26
128, 120 120 85
453
40 was swapped for a future 3rd, add the games played for that.

Wardlaw's issues aren't his hammies, it's because he allegedly made it well-known at the combine that he didn't want to move interstate.
Lol for Sheezel's and wardlaw's indiscretions they will be banished to norf to play 4 games a year in Tasmania in front of 5000 people or play at marvel in front of 15000 .
They also have to pay for their own laundry

Ease up with the insults, no need for that.

Based on those numbers the chances of getting a 150 gamer are higher with the 2 picks (than pick 2 alone) aren’t they?

And of course these numbers don’t factor in the impact of the number 2 pick having dodgy hamstrings and, apparently, go-home tendencies.

To death and taxes, we can now add as a constant statistics to drive your draft/trade strategy. Everyone knows you don’t get a genuine midfield star outside of the top 2, or was 5, maybe 7?

So if we pick Hewitt with pick 2 he will play more games than if we picked him with pick 12.

Guys we have to be realistic:

As it stands right now, we have a sub standard medical team. We have long had a sub standard medical team. This won't change until our medical department gets cleaned out and restaffed

So in regard to drafting injured kids, that would be a phenomenonal mistake. We can't get our existing players healthy, but will roll the dice on a kid with an ACL?

Know thy limitations. And our capacity to get our team healthy is awful. Hard pass

Yeah I like Barnett as well, arguably as much as Keeler. Ruckman usually slide in drafts so I'd think 26 would get him rather than 20.

At 202cm already, with his athleticism and strong hands he'd be gold to have developing behind Jamieson and Williams.

Doubt it'll happen though. Got a local lad in Broadbent we can likely get for peanuts late or in the RD. Free swing essentially, compared to Barnett who will costs a bit more.

WTF would you know about our medical team. Define substandard mate. "Long had..." What do you know about elite level sports medicine and rehab.

Look for us to rookie Will Elliot if he's available.

Normally I’d agree that keeping pick 2 is the best option but it really depends on the draft in each year. According to OBrien this years draft is quite even across the first 10-15 (excluding Ashcroft) so the player you get at 8 is not that different to 2. Then you layer on go home factor, as well as increasing our pool of young first rounders and it makes sense.
