I hope we'll draft Barnett. I think he's worth the cost of the upgrade from possibly drafting Broadbent later in the draft.
Looks like he has very good marking ability.

Good skills and even has a bit of toe for a big guy. Has performed well this year and can play 85% ruck time the main man.
Isn't really a fwd line threat but if he gets run and jump -can take a good grab generally on the wing. Gets beaten overhead when stationary too often.
Has a lack of strength especially around the non centre bounces where ruckmen wrestle and jostle. And truthfully doesn't win too many decisive hitouts.

HS phantom that seems to include some inside info 😬. Probably just guessing for us hopefully
That’s a load of horsesh1t that mock draft why is Allen suddenly pick 13 cause he ran fast at a combine.
I said a month or 2 back we could look at him with a late 2nd or early 3rd rounder.

Hewitt > Jones easily even with the rumours around him.

LOl, thats just wishful thinking from a Victorian shitrag.

How can we get all the good talent into the Vic teams and what is the worst case scenario we can lump interstate teams with.

BOND 007 please tell me our first 3 picks won't look like that
The smart play would be to pick Phillipou at 9. Saints would then go McKenzie.
Hope the Blues or Dogs (Hollands,Hotton Hustwaite, Jefferson) don’t go a key Back so Busslinger would still be there at 13 if that’s who the Eagles wanted. If Buss is gone pick Hollands he’s a solid prospect.

Hewitt at 21 if still there and Jones or Allen at 27. Get into the 3rd round and grab Smith or Broadbent.

There’s plenty of options at our picks so I hope we’re not pigeonholing the West Aussies like that mock draft seems to suggest.

Take the best talent in Phillipou at 9 and then see what comes out in the wash at 13. Looks like Hewetts value is in free fall so he could potentially be there at our 3rd pick, then see if Allen or Jones are still available later

It seems to suggest our criteria is ‘local players’ and so they’ve picked players who fill that criteria. That’s about it.

Same could be said for Ginbey who 'rocketed up the charts' with his combine results.

On Pixel 6 Pro using BigFooty.com mobile app
Ginbey was being talked about as a possible top 10 pick before the combine

Allan and Jones are the two who caught the attention of the Vic media with their combine results. Both were borderline top 30 before the combine and are now being floated as potential first round picks

Surely actual football form is rated higher than combine results? Why do players "rocket up the rankings" based on combine results when recruiters have seen them actually play football all year/ across multiple years?
Because players at AFL level have elite athletic attributes and it's hard for those 'good at football' blokes to compete with them if they also don't have elite attributes.

There's always outliers who go later in the draft, of course, but they are the exception and not the norm.

What I'm asking is why weren't the ones shooting up the rankings now outperforming their peers at the actual playing football part of being a footballer?

Hmm yes this guy plays football like a late second rounder, consistently beaten by players x,y,z but holy shit did you see his agility test? First rounder now. Up there with the players who beat him all year.

They probably rank lower due to recruiter's concerns about their athletic ability being able to translate to the next level, the testing helps them decide this, which is why they climb up. Their performances may have been comparable to kids higher rated earlier in the season

This year's draft pool seems very even. I don't think I can single out particular names as a preference, but what I do want is for us to take a set of picks that fills some list holes:
  • A midfielder with a history of hitting the scoreboard
  • A balanced midfielder with a history of decent production
  • A 2m-plus ruckman who can be developed as first ruck (Naitanui "replacement")
  • a hard-pressuring small forward (Cripps replacement)
  • a medium-sized defender who we can trust to defend (Sheppard replacement)
I don't care if they're from WA, and athletic performance comes second to football ability. For example:
Phillipou/Humphrey + Clark/MacKenzie + Barnett + Konstanty + K Smith would suit me fine.

Not sold on Ginbey, Allan or Jones to the extent that the media is spruiking their value to us. That value has been inflated by combine stats and WA origin, plus I'm not sure what position they'll end up playing. Certainly, I'd take Ginbey at 12* (but he won't last that long) and Allan or Jones at 26* (neither will they). No idea about Hewett, who is sliding fast.

I want to start a petition to add Monocle as recipe coordinator at Mrs Mac Pie Shop

In the Big Foot Official Mock Draft, he has landed us

Clark, Hewitt, Hotton and Hustwaite.

Now posters, a haul like that would solve our midfield depth, quality and variety big time.

When playing in a draft full of mainly mids, why not fill your boots with mids.

Now he just needs o land Broadbent and Cleaver as rookies than get Dewar and Baker as Cat B.

Can't find a vid of Hustwaite but not keen on him based on the descriptions.
It says he has no real speed but has the agility to get away from opponents (perhaps like Sam Mitchell), but his height might be a barrier to achieving this at the next level.
Also describes him as a safe user of the ball preferring to handball and passing off to teammates.
His dual position ability to play as 3rd tall owing to his growth spurt isn't very appealing to me. If he grows taller to KPD height can't see him continuing in the midfield and won't have much experience playing there.
