Some interesting comments from that HS mock...

Essendon at pick 5 "West Australian Reuben Ginbey is also in the mix here". Has them taking Tsatas.
Gold Coast at pick 6 "As long as the Bombers don’t strike first, the Suns look set to snap up Ginbey with their first pick. The West Australian is the preferred option for West Coast with their top-10 selection but is unlikely to get there given the interest from Gold Coast and Essendon higher in the order"
West Coast at pick 13 "Fellow WA product Elijah Hewett is more of a genuine midfielder than Allan but is expected to slide a little further down the order"

I'd be happy if Ginbey was off the board by our pick, means we get a crack at one of Phillipou, McKenzie or Clark. Then if Hewett is there at 20 that's great.

If Ginbey is off the board at 9 we'll probably get Busslinger.

Not sure I see that as a win TBH.

We then either try Hewett at 13 or run the risk of him lasting until 21, which could totally backfire, particularly if we already didn't pick a mid with our first.

What a relief, Ginbey won't slide to 9 - that highly rated Western Australian big bodied midfielder who nobody wanted because it felt like reaching, or he was West Australian, or he was linked to us, or something.

Now we can pick a less highly rated player from interstate to get one over the east coast journos and the pieman. What a win!

Yeah the highly rated big-bodied "midfielder" who can't win enough of the ball will be gone by our pick, what a shame.

Should Munkara be given more credit? Worth a ping with one of our last picks, especially if we trade back in?
Anything after 40 and Essendon can match as he’s tied to their academy

After the AFL Academy game, I thought wow he looked great and top 20 type pick.

But his championship game, I don't think he had 2 disposals.

He's got talent and some great assets but prone to very quiet games.

I watched the Academy game too (internet) and I felt a twitch.

What is your gut feel? Would you like us to take a punt? (trade back in for late 30's)

No.

If wasn't academy tied to Bombers, maybe with a very late pick or rookie. But not worth it inside top 40 picks for mine.
He's too risky.
I'd prefer Hagan with a pick 40 onward as a small forward. Far less risk, classy, smart player and looked dangerous as a forward.

What sort of production was Gibney putting up in the U/18 Championships?

Because his numbers in the WAFL aren't even in the ballpark of someone who clubs are looking at with a top ten pick.

If Gibney is considered going early it's probably a good thing. It will push back Phillipou and we are a good chance to pick him at 8. Much better player and can slot goals from outside 50.

When did Ginbey switch to the midfield? If hes been playing in the backline for most of his junior career then he's come in and done well whilst still having plenty of room for improvement.
I wouldnt mind picking him with either of our first 2 picks .

I’m pretty sure it was the last 1-2 games of the season. ROYAL EAGLE should have more info on that

Averaged 21 disposals for WA in the u18 champs. Not huge but he did get the WA MVP and make the AA midfield.

My understanding is he played half back at senior level pre champs - he then went into the middle during some of WA's warm up games (they played wafl sides) and was very good in the middle, he then played in the middle for the champs and was AA and WA MVP.
I am to believe he stayed in the midfield post champs for the two games.

I saw his warm up games and championships games, but not pre or post that. Monocle made a good point, he has looked to get better in each game he's played so is on the linear growth curve.

Despite their public insistence they’d be happy to pick an interstate player, rival recruiters believe the West Coast Eagles are preparing to pounce on WA-based talent with their first two selections, which will likely end up being Picks 9 and 13 after the Ashcroft bid.

Should Ginbey be off the board by Pick 9, the Eagles will strongly consider the three other top WA prospects: Hewett, Jedd Busslinger (East Perth) and Ed Allan (Claremont).

A rangy 196cm key-position player who reads the ball superbly in the air and has great defensive nous and composure, Busslinger is regarded as the best key back in the draft class. Hewett is a powerful midfielder and renowned leader.

But Allan looms as this year’s first-round – possibly top-10 – bolter. Foxfooty.com.auunderstands the Eagles have put significant work into Allan, who was a standout at the recent national combine after an injury-interrupted 2022 campaign.

A versatile 194cm prospect that can play in any third of the ground, Allan turned heads in the 20m sprint, recording a time of 2.81 seconds – the fifth-fastest 20m sprint time in combine history – while he also presented impressively during club interviews.

Allan is the son of former Hawthorn and Fremantle midfielder Ben Allan but not eligible to either the Hawks or Dockers as his dad played 98 games for Hawthorn — two short of the 100-game minimum requirement for the father-son rule — and 47 for Fremantle.

The Eagles are keen on him – to the point where they might even consider taking him with their first pick. Foxfooty.com.auunderstands the Giants, who also hold two late first-round picks, have also put ample work into Allan.

Should the Eagles select a non-WA player with one of their first two picks, Phillipou and Sandringham Dragons’ Cameron Mackenzie would likely be their top two options.

Mackenzie, a reliable and consistent midfielder with a strong inside-outside balance and burst of speed from stoppage, has lived in England, France and Sydney during his childhood.

“The experience of living overseas does make the idea (of playing for a non-Victorian club) seem less daunting,” Mackenzie told foxfooty.com.au.

“My preference is probably to stay in Melbourne, but I just want to play footy and if I had to play (interstate), I’d definitely take the challenge and take the opportunity, have a big impact and help the team succeed.”

Splitting our first round pick, when we are clearly midfield deficient, to take a couple of talls in Busslinger and Allen, would be the most West Coast of draft moves

If there was a choice between Mackenzie and Allan, surely we would have to pick Mackenzie - you would think.

Mackenzie is an accomplished balanced midfielder with great disposal.

Allan ran fast in a time trial and is tall but it’s not clear even where he would play. I don’t think I would be happy with him with pick 20, definitely not one of our prized first two picks, if he’s gone then he’s gone.

I hope WC don’t try and overthink it again.

You’d think we wouldn’t have to use a first rounder on Allan and could pick him up in the 20s. Most phantom drafts have him in the 20s and 30s. Could his draft combine results really push him into the first round?

Monocle or anyone else in the know, how good is Ed Allan at winning contested ball and defensive pressure? I haven't seen enough of him to judge myself, but from what I've heard he sounds like more of a wingman.
