I think we could choose the destination for Clarko at least, no?
Haiti perhaps?
Afghanistan a bridge too far, but what about Libya?
We could ask for him to do some sports evaluations from hitherto unexplored sporting enclaves to give us the next tactical advantage.
Lets Go Clarko! Your Air Malaysia tickets await. Oh, and take Bolts with ya. He needs a tan.;):thumbsu:
Would pay $60k for him to take bolt hahaha

Caro never has a good word to say about the Hawks or Clarko as Hawks coach or Kennett for that matter, even when we were three-peating she couldn't bring herself to praise the club or Clarko, so listen to Caro at you own risk.

As for Clarko I do not understand why the club wouldn't get him to work out his contract in another role eg. Project Manager of Dingley Project, he has an MBA, he has been instrumental in the setting up of the concept and soon we will need a site office out there so no worries about him being around Waverley potentially stepping on Sam's toes. If he truly has the club and Sam's interests at heart I cannot see why he would reject it as a job, afterall he still is being paid by the club and it is not an unreasonable position to be offered, it is not as though he is being transferred to the mailroom to see out his time.

Imagine Clarko the 4 time premiership coach being relegated to project manager. 😂😂

🤔
Do you genuinely believe Clarko would have agreed to that scenario even if it somehow came to be

yeah I don’t think so. He had his heart set on the club when he was the boss. Not so much when he was told he was not to be the boss any longer. And fair enough. Besides I don’t know of too many $1million per year site managers:oops:

The Caro Wilson whining in this thread has been laughable, but this post was enough to make me log in again.

A 30 second google search was enough to bring up these two articles:

A nice choice quote from the latter:

The embarrassing oversight that has seen Alastair Clarkson not once named the AFL's coach of the year has led to a policy change by the games's coaching body.

The headline of the former speaks for it self. I am sure if you have the time you can find more articles where she says nice things about Hawthorn. Caro is an old school investigative journalist, her job is not to blow smoke up Hawthorn's proverbial nor is it to act as a PR person for the club. If the debacle that happened at the end of our season with regards to the coaching handover that wasn't happened at Essenscum we would all be typing with glee as Caro dissected the entrails - much like we did in 2012-13 when she was one of the few journos to actually get stuck into the situation and not happily swallow the AFL line on it. She was proven to be correct time and time again reporting on the inner workings of our club in the latter half of the year. It hurts to read that your club is leaking and mismanaged - but it's not Wilson's job to cushion the impact for Hawthorn supporting readers. I, for one, am happy that there are still journalists out there who don't act as parrots for the AFL PR folk and actually do some digging.

She occasionally gets things wrong based on bad intel - like when she went early on Hird being terminated because * had a change of mind, but she owned that. She stuck to her guns on our situation this year while being made out to be a complete idiot on Footy Classified, by the scintillating intellect that is Craig Hutchinson, and lo and behold she was found to be on the money. Yes, she was certain that Clarko was going to Carlton and she explained that her read of the situation is that their ham-fisted firing of Teague put him off the job. Again, reporters can only work off their intel - as if we were all happy enough to trust that intel every time she beat up the Bombres during the drug scandal then we have to wear that sometimes she might have it right on some less than amazing details about our club. Say what you will about the end result of the Sam/Clarko handover - if you think it was handled in any way well then you're clearly blinded by club loyalty, which is fine but don't blame a journalist for not being similarly myopic. Something tells me that if it was Jake Niall who reported all of the inner workings of our club that we wouldn't have pages of whiny vitriol being dedicated to him.

All that said, the Twitter post was funny and I think the criticism there was over the top. It's Twitter - it's not a place for civilised discourse, particularly when it comes to footy matters.

I am sure your 30 second search found plenty the other way with the same theme every year. Keep reading her articles if you like.

Relegated to project manager on a project that has a stated value of $130M and being paid $900K to do it.
Because being a project manager of a $130m build is something you can just step into without ever doing previously. 😂

Well I was merely looking to counter your definitive statement that she never writes anything positive about Hawthorn or Clarko. Being that you're now shifting goalposts I will take that as you conceding you are wrong. My argument wasn't that she never writes anything negative about the club, she writes negatively about most clubs as that is her job.

So he used the word never. Big deal. Hes not far off the mark. She writes and comments far more negativity about the Hawks than she does positivity. And its not even close. In a period where she should have had far more reason to be positive than negative about the club. And she lets personal agendas bias her opinions (which she then tries to present as facts). Yeah, double standard hypocrite she is.

She writes about almost all clubs more negatively than she does positively. It's the nature of her reporting - she specialises in the backroom shenanigans of clubs so she's not going to spend her time gloating about clubs with good governance because who the hell is going to read that? You're like a political hack who has a tantrum because a political reporter is correctly criticising your chosen political party. Journalists are meant to uncover the darker side to things not be a part of the AFL spin machine or club's spin machines.

Have a look at the criticism Wilson has heaped on Hardwick over the past 12 months due to his behind the scenes behaviour at Richmond. She clearly loves her club but isn't afraid to speak negatively about the goings on of the coach and his personal matters which could have bled into his professionalism given the situation. Maybe if the Hawthorn FC hadn't had a fairly tumultuous last 4-5 years off the park at times (messy trade periods, poor recruiting, key staff departing, bungled CEO appointment and subsequent board upheaval, an apparent gulf of any willing and suitable presidential candidates to take on Kennett, an utterly bungled coaching transfer involving the best coach of the modern era, continually stalled project at Dingley) then she wouldn't have so much to write about. As it stands I am not expecting Wilson to be part of the PR staff of the club so I am not going to throw my toys out of the cot when she does her job and reports on things we do poorly. I still think we are doing better than most clubs - however if you want to be one of the big clubs in the league, that's going to come with the spotlight and it's going to come with criticism - and journalists are going to get clicks and column inches if you do something stupid. If you're going to get so upset at journalists reporting about your football club then there are a couple of minnow clubs you can go support so you don't have to clutch your pearls so tightly. Give St Kilda a go, nobody really cares what the hell they do unless their players are cavorting with minors.

FFS, let it go people. He is gone and it is agreed by the club that he will be paid out his contract. Simples.

Happy to continue to discuss the $60k issue but stop wasting your and our time with stupid hypotheticals.

Ned goes bang. Welcome back!

I couldn't agree more. I don't watch much of FC but read her columns and regularly listen to her on 3AW and even her own podcast, and what you can't say is that she's biased. She calls it how she sees it, and the clubs with more grubbyness in the background tends to cop it more. As you say, we've been ordinary off field for a little while, so have had our fair share of light shun on us.

On the other hand, I've heard her talk glowingly of Clarko and extremely critical in recent times. I think most of it fair.

She needs to lighten up on the twitter criticism when it was likely a 22 year old social media manager...

So you’re saying we shouldn’t force Clarkson to work out the remainder of 2022 as the dingley groundskeeper?

Caro's level of caustic holier than thou vindictive accusatory media style means I don't trust her as ever delivering news.
I know every time I listen that she has sieved whatever snippets of real story she is given through a shrivelled little heart and calcified mind.

In my HO you are welcome to enjoy her, and just as welcome to despise her.
To portray her as somehow brave or journalistically authentic and responsible would be to ignore all the lives she smashes aside without pause or care. She seeks to re-make every story line so that it is viewed only through her lens, not for others to consider.
Her life mission has been to make herself an important part of the sports scene, not to enrich it with insight and well considered sports stories and revelation.
There are others like her, but not many with her sense of extraordinary self aggrandizing and obnoxious joie de vivre.
She'd make a great politician's hatchet person.

Personally, not keen on reading novels, especially on forums but each to their own :thumbsu:

If you think a touch under 500 words and a touch under 400 words are me being verbose then boy are you going to be disappointed going forward.

Having to read reports and docs all day, the last thing I look for is a slab of text on here. As I said each to their own. Different strokes
