Bulldogs are the only team with the picks but perhaps not the need. 10, F2 and Smith for Oliver? Who says no?
Melbourne would end up with 3 first rounders. Could package them up for Reid or take the three best talks and set their spine up for next decade hopefully

Yeah nah, I rate Clarry but that's too much.
That’s one of the only realistic scenarios that Melbourne would look at in this thread, everything else is unders from Melbournes POV. Why would they trade their best player who is contracted long term without massive reward?

Why would Gold Coast offer that up? Makes no sense for them, both sides would say no to that deal.

No

There is the on going theory that he genuinely considered a move to Carlton a few years back.

Not sure if it was a connection with Teague or with Carlton players. But there were genuine conversations had.

So in the complete hypothetical world of this happening:

To get to Carlton - McKay + Dow (if Melbourne wanted a potential replacement inside mid after Jordan and Dunstan have left) then the traditional pick swapping.
I’d imagine Carlton would want some points for next year, so maybe a swap of first rounders Melbourne F1 2024 for Carlton pick included.

If it was the Teague connection:

Richmond would really struggle with no first round picks so they might look to offer something like Josh Gibcus + Ivan Soldo + potentially future picks.

All that said,
Both Richmond and Carlton are not in the market for inside mids, although you’d imagine all clubs would make exceptions for a player of Oliver’s Ilk.

But I’d be incredibly surprised if there is anything in this story, unless there is a huge amount of untold (but rumoured) controversy that has both club and player wanting a change.

Rule out Richmond. He's better than our inside mids but he's still an inside mid, and we have 2 locked up in long term expensive deals. We cant add a 3rd. He doesn't make sense for us for a player type perspective and we don't have the trade currency to make it work.

Oliver would arguably be Carlton's 4th best mid behind Walsh, Cerra & Cripps.

Midfielders are dime a dozen.. but key forwards are the rarest commodity in football.

There's only two coleman medal winning key forwards still in their prime in the entire AFL system.

Fortunately they both play for Carlton

Wtf, so basically Oliver for McKay? A bloke who cant kick a goal from 10m out?

They wouldn’t offer it! That’s my whole point, there is no deal that satisfies both parties with a gun player like Clarry in the prime of his career that has an extremely long contract.

You’d have to pay excessive overs.

I don’t expect you to have read my other posts ITT, but I think the whole trade rumour is completely fabricated and my sentiment has been that any trade needs to match the Judd trade at absolute minimum for it to make sense for Melbourne.

Haha, that was all hypothetical as I said.
Carlton, as silly as it sounds because Oliver is a gun, wouldn't want him.

One could look at is as a 25 year old Coleman Medalist, who admittedly has struggled with kicking in the last 18 months, for a 25 year old inside midfielder, who admittedly struggled with kicking for the last 8 years.

I made that suggestion as there had been links with Carlton in the past, Melbourne has been crying out for a KPF for years, they are both contracted for a similar amount of time and are both on similar amounts of money.

Clarry is the best midfielder in the competition, way better than Cripps, Bont, Serong, Neale, Butters and adds more value than a Merrett, Walsh, Daicos, Gulden type too.
Oliver, at his best, is still probably the best mid in the comp

Crazy rumour, Melbourne may as well fold if they lose Oliver

Daicos, Gulden and Butters are the only players in the entire comp that carry more currency than Clarry (given their age) However, he is still better than all of them. So impactful. I would have Clayton as the number one player in our whole side ahead of Charlie, Cripps, Weitering, Walsh etc. he is so good.. which is why this trade rumour is complete garbage.

Hes nowhere near Bont's level
