So he will stay with Melb then & that’s fine for all partiesBeen reported Dees aren’t interested in paying anything if he goes. So Cats will need to pickup the tab if he does.
Letting it leak that he was invited down to Rhys’s farm was a mistake as it has shown how much skin in the game Geelong have now.
They don't have to be traded we have heaps of cap room to fit them all in and we have the picks to do deals without them.
But yes guys like knevitt and clohesy might look for more gametime elsewhere.
I don't think Bowes would have much interest with other clubs and I think Clark will stay but time will tell.
I dunno, we've had a lot of d***heads beforeThis guy could be the one that finally breaks the Cats. It might be one dickhead too many.
Can't get deals done? It's the worst contract in the AFL, there's no way GFC was going to take on his whole contract, goes against everything we're known for. We asked the question, gave him a tour, he loved it so much came said he wants to joins us. I'm sure he was told mate we are happy to have you if we can work out a deal with MFC, simple. End of the day if a deal doesn't get done, we're perfectly fine with it, it was an opportunity that we took a stab at. Doesn't change the fact your potato club is still stuck with the guy who can't run out a quarter, now with the added bonus knowing that he would rather be playing for us.Hope this happens, will blow up in Geelongs face one way or another. If it doesn’t happen then it will show they can’t get deals done, if it happens then they are stuck with a 1.3m contract on a bloke who can’t run out a quarter.

Or will this be another fleecing from the Cats at the trade table?
Don't think they have enough value to change the discussion so no point pushing them outYou'd imagine for Oliver to get to the Cats some players will need to be traded.
The likes of Clark, Knevitt, Bowes wont be seeing games anytime soon unless Smith and Oliver implode at some stage next year (not out of the realms).
Don't think they have a heap of value though.

What salary do you think Oliver is worth? Why?? If Geelong takes his contract why would Melbourne get anything of value in return?? It doesn't make sense..
Why?? If Geelong takes his contract why would Melbourne get anything of value in return?? It doesn't make sense..
If Geelong were to take on the entire contract then sure maybe Cats F1 goes close.
So 1.3mil or so over what is it 6 years or something, basically taking the entire risk off Melbourne, probably for an early 2nd rounder at the least.
Theres a reason Melbourne would give him up, would you want to tie up that much salary for that?
You wont be getting many free agents with no salary cap space
Given his contract, 2024 output, his behaviour / reputation and his own club shopping him around, Oliver is pretty much a negative asset. If Geelong pay any significant chunk of his contract they'll trade basically nothing to Melbourne. If your happy to pay 1.3m for a 4x AA player then yeah, usually the club would expect something of value in return.
If Geelong pay 900kish per year of his salary then theyre just trading in a guy on a normal contract, accounting for the risk associated and the potential to go back to being a 1.3mil player.Given his contract, 2024 output, his behaviour / reputation and his own club shopping him around, Oliver is pretty much a negative asset. Oliver is not being shopped around by Melbourne because they can get a significant haul in return
Until Geelong came knocking his value was free toOliver is definitely the hardest to value of all the players discussed this year.
2024 Oliver isn't worth 900k, that's why his team is trying to get rid of him.If Geelong pay 900kish per year of his salary then theyre just trading in a guy on a normal contract, accounting for the risk associated and the potential to go back to being a 1.3mil player.
That would require a pick that reflects that, likely close to pick 10ish of value imo.
Look it would be rude not to askThen youll probably have to take more of the contract, likely the entire thing
Only a couple of those contracts run more than a couple of years. Oliver's money runs to 2030 so you can on paper backload how whole contract.Holmes(850+), Bruhn(600-700), Bowes(750), De Koning(500-600), Stengle(750+), Miers(600-700), Henry(500-600), Henry (500-600), Close (500-600), Stewart (900+)
Why would it matter when Oliver called them?Been reported Dees aren’t interested in paying anything if he goes. So Cats will need to pickup the tab if he does.

You're selling liabilities and assets in equal measureIf your happy to pay 1.3m for a 4x AA player then yeah, usually the club would expect something of value in return.
I'd rather the jousting sticksJay Clark reckons a future first gets it done, with Melbourne chipping in $200k

2024 Oliver is likely the absolute worst case. More than likely he gets fit again and plays better. You have to take some of the risk.2024 Oliver isn't worth 900k, that's why his team is trying to get rid of him.
We would be doing this in the hope of getting him back to 2021 Oliver but we are taking on a lot of risk in hoping it will happen.
If Melbourne thought this year was as bad as it gets, they would be hanging on to him2024 Oliver is likely the absolute worst case. More than likely he gets fit again and plays better. You have to take some of the risk.
900k considering risk vs reward. Worst case hes a 700k player, best case hes back to that 1.3mil player
