Hope this happens, will blow up in Geelongs face one way or another. If it doesn’t happen then it will show they can’t get deals done, if it happens then they are stuck with a 1.3m contract on a bloke who can’t run out a quarter.

Can't get deals done? It's the worst contract in the AFL, there's no way GFC was going to take on his whole contract, goes against everything we're known for. We asked the question, gave him a tour, he loved it so much came said he wants to joins us. I'm sure he was told mate we are happy to have you if we can work out a deal with MFC, simple. End of the day if a deal doesn't get done, we're perfectly fine with it, it was an opportunity that we took a stab at. Doesn't change the fact your potato club is still stuck with the guy who can't run out a quarter, now with the added bonus knowing that he would rather be playing for us.

Geelong didn't initiate this, they are just trying to take advantage of the situation Melbourne have dug themselves into.

If Melbourne don't want to pay any of his salary, cool. They can accept whatever Geelong offers or keep Oliver.

The likes of Clark, Knevitt, Bowes wont be seeing games anytime soon unless Smith and Oliver implode at some stage next year (not out of the realms).

I think the calls of the worst contract in the AFL are massively overblown.

I'd rather Oliver and back him in to turn things around than pay plodders like McGrath/Perryman 6 year deals on above average wages.

If Geelong were to take on the entire contract then sure maybe Cats F1 goes close.

So 1.3mil or so over what is it 6 years or something, basically taking the entire risk off Melbourne, probably for an early 2nd rounder at the least.

Theres a reason Melbourne would give him up, would you want to tie up that much salary for that?

If Geelong pay 900kish per year of his salary then theyre just trading in a guy on a normal contract, accounting for the risk associated and the potential to go back to being a 1.3mil player.

That would require a pick that reflects that, likely close to pick 10ish of value imo.

2024 Oliver isn't worth 900k, that's why his team is trying to get rid of him.
We would be doing this in the hope of getting him back to 2021 Oliver but we are taking on a lot of risk in hoping it will happen.

Only a couple of those contracts run more than a couple of years. Oliver's money runs to 2030 so you can on paper backload how whole contract.

The truth pretty much any club could backload that contract. Few if any would.

Personally if I were a Cats fan I'd be an hard "no" regardless of the deal.

High risk high reward. It all depends on Clayton making the right life decisions.
