Pay him. Keep him. Shut Vic Media up. Much better option than him going to another club. If he breaks down, c'est la vie (or if you are a Ned Kelly fan, such is life).
I'm not paying up to shut up the Vic media. We're better than that.

I do believe he is worth a good price, he's a gun for sure. Reckon he'll have a career year.

We all love Sloane but he has already been handed a very nice $ contract well into his thirties and isn't getting any better... we would be insane to offer Brad big bucks at this stage even if his body holds up his best games haven't exactly been out of this world We can't have two blokes in the who knows bracket..
The money could be better used in coming yrs on various other SA lads to bring them home.

And "all" these outstanding SA lads busting their ass to get back home are?

History shows there's not been too many "class" SA footballing lads in a big hurry to come back to Adelaide after they've established themselves interstate.

About the only one that springs to mind currently is Orazio Fantasia and his durability is very much in question.

Yeah I agree the crows have been poor at bringing players home but I also think that is reflective of our out of date organisation and the people in it.
We have done a clean out and once old school chappy is gone and we have a city training centre we can attract players home as West lakes has had its time.
In regards to SA "class" players we have many to sit back and monitor that have been drafted in recent years and the more money we have the better placed we will be along with the above mentioned to bring them home as they come out of contract.
Stephens,Gould, luko,Rankine, and that's just a few of the well known ones, I'm sure others on this board are far better educated than me of the young SA quality sitting on various lists especially after the 2018 draft.

Dylan Stephens for one his family ties are Victorian [Redbanks] and he only schooled in Adelaide for a couple of years on a sporting scholarship so I wouldn't think he'd have any priority to want to get back to Adelaide?

Personally I think it has had little to do with the Adelaide FC admin attracting players either currently or in the past and I'm not sure a city training centre is going to seal the deal for too many young blokes either.

The points I made are contributing factors in determining the profile of our club, and the impact that would have on attracting players home.
The facts are the profile of our club is not great as amongst other things triggered the need for an external review (that the club didn't want..)
I'm really hopeful of a city move and a fresh approach to see how our list could look in a few years. Time will tell 👍

I think time has already told to be honest.

Over the course of our history, how many high quality players, in their prime, have we lured home?

Darren Jarman
Matt Robran
Scott Thompson
Scott Welsh was decent

It’s pretty slim pickings especially over more recent years. Then you get a gun like Lachie Neale who wants out of Freo and he goes to Brisbane.

The whole let’s get an SA star back who is homesick is a total white elephant.

Panther Jason Torney was a bit of a favourite of mine and very underrated I think.....reckon he deserved another year when we delisted him too.

Hence the need for major change.

I dont. Well not for 5

But thats more my conservative nature around contracts rather than any feel about his injury future or further 'break contract' offers

3 years at $750 and KPI triggers for the other 2 based mainly around games played
Brad will be 27 at the start of next year.
Concern I have is that we end up negotiating against an imaginary offer like we did with the imaginary Jenkins offer from Brisbane, and he gets the 5 years at good money.

He will be 31* at the start of his last year if we give him 5 years. Would not be a smart contract from us.

I would start by offering 2 years, and compromise to 3 years, no more. If he gets 4+ years elsewhere and wants to take it then good luck to him & them.

Won't he be 31 for his last year? He only turned 26 a few weeks ago.

Brad is overrated, he was good last yr and got himself a bnf in a year that was a train wreck with many players having a poor season.
Great he's injury free at the moment so no excuses go earn your big secure contract by WINNING us games not by performing well in losses.

outside of Danger,Brad is comforting our best midfielder. Only injuries have stopped him being a multiple b&f winner.

1 year to go on existing contract, so 27 at the start of next year

5 years would be on top of that, so 32 at the start of the final year

I think?
Edit: no you are right. Would be 31 in the last year of a 5 year extension.

I'd be waiting until at least the middle of the year to see how his body is holding up, and whether he has improved after a full pre-season
typical AFC response, wait and pay more and put the club under pressure. We know his value. I would pay 750-800k per year tops. If he wants more on your bike and we get a high draft pick.

Thommo not even really in his prime when he arrived. Was his 3rd season with us that he nudged past averaging 20 disposals. Even Port showed little interest at the time. Turned out a gun, but he was 3-4 years away from his prime.

But he's hasn't been.
He has 1 bnf in a shyt year for the club.. his brother who isn't rated by many has been named All Australian.
How can Brad be our best since Danger, with one good season?

The problem with Sloane and Matt Crouch is both of them aren't exactly star midfielder material. Both are Robins to a Batman. Hence why we've had that Dangerfield sized hole in our midfield for near half a decade. A damn shame Brad has been injured a heck of a lot seeing he definitely has the ceiling to fill that hole.

Whilst I do agree that it's a bit of a reach saying Brad is our best midfielder, I'd be comfortable arguing all it takes for Brad to overtake both of them is rediscovering some of that explosiveness he had along with maintaining the rest of his skillset. He's pretty equivalent now to both Matt and Sloane.

31 in his last year is exactly why he should get 5 years!

sheesh
