I’ve had plenty of reservations with Brad over the years, but there’s no denying he’s a quality midfielder when up and running.

I think we are in this relationship now come hell or high water. Midfielders that are AA capable don’t fall off trees. We lose Brad where do we find a seasoned front line midfielder?

Nope, too much time and $$ already invested - sign him for 4/5 and wrap this up. If he breaks down again so be it, injury is a risk in footy - can happen to anyone anytime.

This era at the AFC is a Crouch led midfield, we’ve invested in it, they are now both in their peak years, we roll with them now for the next 5 years.

And a Victorian born and bred mid with an Adelaide partner that actually wants to be there is always a good starting point. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Daniel Talia's partner is also an Adelaide girl.

The points I made are contributing factors in determining the profile of our club, and the impact that would have on attracting players home.
The facts are the profile of our club is not great as amongst other things triggered the need for an external review (that the club didn't want..)
I'm really hopeful of a city move and a fresh approach to see how our list could look in a few years. Time will tell 👍
TBH, I think the reason we don't see 'stars coming home' is because we have been reluctant to throw large contracts at them, which was associated with our socialist TPP strategy. Wasn't Sloane the first 5 year deal we had done?

Of course our off field situation in the last 3 years (you know who) has been a deterrent, rather than something we want to talk about how good the club's culture is.

That'll take 3 or 4 years to change, much like the Lions in the Leppitsch/Voss days

.... when he who shall not be named was also there.

Another reason is that there are hardly any SA stars. Seriously did you see our proposed State of Origin team? Would lose by 20+ goals... to WA. Vic better again.

My 2 cents on bcrouch is wait and see how he performs this year. The club doesn't need to rush into anything. If his body holds up all season that is further evidence that the risk of a long term deal is lessened. Personally i don't like long term deals that take a player past 30. I would offer him 3 years on good money (650-700k) if his body stands up this season. Tbh honest i have reservations in offering an injury prone player any more than 2 years. If this is not acceptable to brad, thats fine go your hardest and get the best deal for yourself. I think he will find a decent club elsewhere will not offer him more than 3 years and quite possibly 2 years at best. A bottom club such as a GC may offer him 4 years on less money if he is lucky but they already have a plethora of young gun mids. My feeling is that brad knows the crows are in a poor position currently and is holding the club to ransom instead of signing on for a fair contract (2-3 years)based on how many games he has played in 7 seasons(83 from 176 or 47%). Unrealistic contract demands generally speak to a players character.

I have great confidence in the likes of MCrouch, Sloane, Smith, Jones, Milera, McHenry, Schoenberg to carry us forward and imo the club would be derelict in offering an injury prone player 5 years on money he simply doesnt deserve. For many a supporter it would be the final straw of incompetent decisions the club is adept in making. Even basket case Gold Coast agreed during the trade period that brad is not worth 5 years or whatever brad substantially dropped his price too. Apparently Gold coast officials have said he has a pretty healthy ego of what he believes he is worth after dealing with him. Strange coming from a player who has had 1 good season but that's the modern player for you. Funny how they drop their demands to a Richmond or Hawthorn though. I digress.

If the player we were talking about was Josh Kelly, Tim Kelly, Dangerfield, Fyfe I would be first in line to say sign him up on 850-900k per year until the age of 30. He just isnt in that class and never will

We will likely have one of if not the best draft hands (and further strengthened if brad doesn't recontract) we have ever had in the upcoming draft which could potentially deliver some genuine gun mids to our club. These players could be around for 15 years, not 5. The club needs to plan for the next 10 years imo, not jump at shadows and end up paying for it as they did with Jenkins, Gibbs, Betts, Lynch. The club should always base its decisions on whether the top 4 clubs would do it or not. Unless we start making decisions like them, we never will be one of them.

Lastly, we finally have a coach that will give midfield time to our first round draft picks (so it seems) and a coach that finally seems intent on getting some speed and spread through the middle. Whats to say that any of Jones, Smith, Milera, McHenry aren't our best performed mids this year when they are given the opportunity. Personally i would much prefer to sign up Jones on a 5 year deal if his form warrants it.

Finally to those that say:
"Let's sign brad up for 5 and pay him whatever he wants. GET IT DONE. If he breaks down, oh well any player can break down. Who cares, we stopped him leaving."
What a ridiculous moronic asinine attitude especially coming from the exact hypocrite supporters who are the first to bag the club when inevitably a poor decision goes wrong.

I'd say we either keep 'em, or trade them both and go full rebuild. Can't go half-pregnant and keep Matt and lose Brad.

I don't know why people are worried about the club giving Crouch a long term deal as if that could possibly be a future problem. They just shipped off 2 players early with minimal objection and a 3rd is so terrible that people have just stopped caring.

So trade 2 of our best midfielders who are both in their prime age bracket for performance and all the indicators point to them being happy to live and play in Adelaide and most likely draft or recruit interstate players to replace them that may not see Adelaide as the place to be in the long haul. Hmmmm.
