Ash Hansen dropped out (based on the viewable part of paywall) well the list of available applicants is getting smaller.

Welcome jarrad you have the best CV by a miles. Unless it's Kern I don't see his CV being matched.

It would be lunacy to accept a worser CV for the sake of change

I'm literally howling. It's gonna be Schofield's gig by default. Like we all been saying since Simmo got the ass, no one in their right mind would want to take a list this bad on. It's a guaranteed firing within three years.

The coach and list management team should be ashamed of themselves. I've never seen something like this before.

Well its there loss .. if you want to be a senior coach..you have to take the opportunity when it presents...you just can't pick and choose..it will come back and bite them

Obviously I'm biased but I think the expectations are so low with all the talk of our list and our last 3 years that it's actually a pretty sweet job to land.

Look at how loved Schoey is already with the general member base after just beating a team that is allergic to planes and Norf

(I also think there's more talent there than most think there is)

Schoey hot favourite now, but reckon Montgomery still a big chance. Selwood, Giansiracusa, Hickmott, Skipworth all potential candidates

Still plenty of good options

Huh? Might as well say that about any coach taking over a club in our position.

Adem Yze is heading into a far worse hiding than we copped the past few years.

Listening to these numpties on Midweek tackle, apparently only Allen, Waterman and Reid are the only 'good' players going forward.

Just shows how clueless Vic journos are when it comes to WCE.

Midweek tackle now debating that we made the wrong decision in sacking Simpson….

How anyone can backflip to that point is beyond belief.

Also we have now been labelled the worst job in history to take… surely Yze with Richmond is much worse

The Afl media is a complete joke

Given no one wants to coach us I hear we have a new applicant

Family’s preference is to stay in Victoria
He'd absolutely move his family over here if he wanted the job. Cox would have done the same also. Its a clichéd answer. Chances are a brand new coach will have their career ended coaching us at present.

Said it before. Usually its not a good idea sticking with interim coaches, but in our situation, where we need to spend a few years building an AFL quality list with depth, Schofield makes the most sense. Give him three years. If he does poorly as a coach, we have the position open again, but with a more quality list where the Cox and Hansen types will apply for in droves. If he does well, perfect! Give him another three years.

I think it's more like losing out on a coaching job seems to harm their chances in the future of getting a top job, I would say people are dropping out because they don't think they'll get the job.

Clearly have no idea from the outside. Do like what I hear about Montgomery from Daniel Garb.

I have heard somewhere though that he was pretty keen to get back to Adelaide where his family live and his son is about to go to the Power as FS. The media will go nuts if he’s drops out too.

Was gonna say, someone on Reddit a few weeks ago said that he's Adelaide bound, assistant coach under Nicks, but its the internet, you never know.

It’s really not.

Gov, HEd, Hough, Ginbey, Duggan, Hunt picks itself.
Harley, Yeo, TK.
Waterman, Allen, JWill, Ryan.

Plus another draft haul, including Pick 3 (and possibly further firsts). Plus the Hewett/Long/HJ/Dewar/Hall/Bazzo/Maric tier kids you get to develop.

I’m not saying we sack any coach who can’t get us to finals next year, but anyone with a modicum of desire to make it as a head coach would look at the list and see a pretty clear path to playing the brand of footy they want to play next year.

Coxy I understand. He’s got a plum gig waiting for him. Graham was on nobody’s list. Hansen stings and I’ll cop that it does, he was my preference from the far far far outside. But coaches get sacked because their teams are crap, if you’re waiting for an elite tier team to takeover as a first time head coach…keep waiting.

I think that was pretty much locked from what I’ve heard as an assistant coach. Does he change his mind if it’s for a head coaching gig? Garb wrote an article a few week back saying in contention. Hope so

100%. We have the stars now need the role players. A couple extra stars would be nice too.

The bloke who said it’s the worst job in footy in his time said they only have 3 players for the future Reid, Waterman and Allen.

Clearly doesn’t watch Eagles game. Cam Mooney has B2B Eagles games and hasn’t stopped talking up Ginbey and JWill.

Also Hough is a star and get Hewett back next year. Another draft year and A Reid sitting there ready to go.

Duggan, HEdwards, Maric ect ect.

Worst take ever. Richmond but far was a bigger climb
