Yesterday's game shows a coach is often only as good as his players. Not sure a Clarkson type is what we need. If Rocket isn't going to coach us next year, I'd rather move him into a Football Director role to assist whoever comes in with the transition. Rocket has acquired a really good understanding of our list now and it would be a big loss if all of that "Organizational Knowledge" walked out the door. Good change management practice is essential for us to continue to move forward. Get this wrong and we could easily slip backwards again.

So are you saying we sack Ashcroft and replace him with Rocket?

Well despite the fact I get completely lambasted for the way I go after Rocket as Coach, i quite like the concept of boning Ashcroft and replacing him with Rocket.
For what's it worth keep on being you and inputting your opinions. I enjoy reading the forum more these days than participating as much as I used too.

I like this idea as well, transition Rocket into Ashcroft role but you need that heir to warm into the seat in my opinion. Sack Ashcroft this year, leave that position vacant next year and make sure we get the next up and comer for Rocket to hand it over too perhaps. Provided there is actually a good coach available. At the moment he keeps the job because who out there is better and more importantly available?

so... who's available? all well and good calling for rocket's heads but there has to be someone significantly better to replace him for it to be worth it.

I'd take Clarko, Ratten, Dew, Carracella, Barker, Voss. I'd take anyone of those. Voss would get the message of playing tough football to the boys, and he wasn't a bad coach at Brisbane, they got rid of him expecting Roos. Ratten was a great coach for the Blues before he was sacked after a loss to the Suns. Barker had experience as a caretaker at Carlton, Clarko is possibly the best coach in the history of the game and Dew and Carracella would be starting their coaching journey like a Fagan or Bolton. Plenty to choose from

Yeah as JRyan said there are plenty out there.
I have always hated Brisbane Lions however I'd go for Voss.
We need to develop a GC Culture and Voss was a successful winning player at a club up here.
Plus he was tough and he's had time to reflect on what went right and wrong with his first crack at it.

yeah I like ratten and Voss too. I wouldn't trust barker, dew or Caracella to get the job done. Clarkson isn't available.

Eade beat two other candidates for the job in Beveridge and Bolton. At the time I had no issue with that after the Bluey disaster. However, he has been outcoached by those two in recent times. It's now a young mans game and players need a cuddle. Eade has put some structure and discipline into what was a train wreck.
I'm not sure if it's him or the list. The fact we are seeing a rookie in the NEAFL as a saviour probably reflects on how badly our list has been put together. Light weight outside runners who are seriously flaky

I disagree about your cuddle sentiment as I'm sick of how sensitive and soft people are. They need a good whacking. Especially these embarrassingly soft pricks that play for us.
I do agree though that Eade is way too old for them to relate to. I don't think even I can relate to him. It's a Superannuation top up for him. He's not passionate about the club.
Hearing Beveridge applied and missed out makes me want to weep like a baby.

Perception is sometimes reality fair or not. It would be be a fair comment to state that GCFC have under performed since entering the competition if they don't make the 2017 finals. So logically it would make sense that there are changes in personnel year end if GCFC don't crack the finals. This will mean that Evans firstly look from the top down being Ashcroft and Eade. The answers will be interesting.

That's crap though aye - there's no way on earth he's not passionate about this job. One of the harder situations to coach in. He loves the game and I just vehemently disagree that his heart isn't in it.

Whether he's still the right man for the job though is a different question. He really is a great game day coach, but I've never been sure on his development of players/lists.

Agree to disagree no dramas, however, I'll make the point that when u get older and in your 50s etc, you mellow naturally and u do think very carefully about your retirement nest egg. He's human.

Oh for sure, no question. I just dealt with the dogs a bit when he was there and no one ever questioned his passion. Times change though aye.

Seems unlikely they'd have settled on a coach already it would be a failure of due diligence to not interview Voss, dew, rattan. Which the media would've got wind off. And on a quieter level have some whispers to a select few current afl coaches.

Barker would be a good get. His efforts after Malthouse got sacked was very good. Of our process to select a coach he came runner up to Bolton, with the board essentially split 5-4 in Bolts favor.

It does seem unlikely to have someone selected this far ahead of time, but could it be a similar situation to the Lions last year in that the AFL has pushed for him to be the man?
