Does anyone think Craig Kelly is part of the problem with our off field issues, or am I reading too much into it?

If all this movement out is about one man then we will certainly have our work cut out for us rebuilding the team with the same quality of people. Hopefully not.

No he's 100% a major problem

I've been warning of this since forever

I thought Bolton wanted to get out of the assistant coaching role & move more into the admin footy department area? Which we facilitated for him.
I think Bolton basically wanted to be handed Graham Wright's job in his absence, and instead it kind of got split between Leppitsch and him.

Seems very clear that Leppitsch is the right hand man of Fly, and the preferred option for promotion.

It's fairly common for someone who wanted internal promotion and didn't get it to then move on. We're probably looking for someone to fit a role in a hierarchical position Bolton wasn't comfortable with (i.e. he didn't want to be reporting to Leppitsch)

Oh well. All the bruised ego's gone.

Onwards & upwards.

Gee, rats fleeing a sinking ship and all …

  • Browne (President)
  • Holgate (experienced board member)
  • Wright (Footy boss)
  • Bolton (Coaching director or whatever)
  • Richards (exciting young talent)
  • Noble (100+ game player)

Not too fussed over those individually (there is always natural attrition), but collectively it seems a lot more than most years.

Brown has cancer and is almost 70, don't pretend you care about Christine Holgate on the board, and the two outgoing players who you've massively overstated the importance of are outnumbered by the multiple players either coming or trying to get to Collingwood.

The fact that you said "or whatever" with Bolton shows that his role was a little ill-defined.

We also have already brought Matthew Boyd back to the club, who was going to take Bolton's remaining coaching duties, one would presume, so Bolton's job in the absence of being made Football Manager was essentially non-existant.

It wouldn't surprise if Leppitsch was being made GM of football, the assistant coaches to McRae will be Skipworth (no indications he's leaving after missing on the West Coast job), Scott Selwood and Matthew Boyd. There's probably room for someone else within the department, but every other club is also filling vacancies, so it's nothing unusual.

Particularly when they've previously held a loftier position than there current.

Edit - Head Coach of Carlton isn't really a loftier position than assistant at Collingwood. No Idea what I was thinking with that.

No, but director of coaching and assistant coach is better than "you don't have a role because we brought in Matthew Boyd and Leppitsch is taking the job you wanted".

Honestly can't blame him.

Had a feeling he was on the outer when in the last few games of the season Fly had Leppa with him on the bench and he was sent to the coaching box.

And Holgate is staying within the club..

"I am pleased that our Club is in a strong position and I look forward to continuing to support and contribute in my role as Chair of the Collingwood Community Foundation.”

Fly, leppa and boyd next year. I’m happy with those 3 as a start
Skipworth returning after being a close second for a senior coaching job is a big deal too (assuming he stays).

Scott Selwood got promoted to midfield coach last year and seemed like he stepped up well.

Acting like we've got no staff and no prospects is a ludicrous overreaction. I don't remember anyone talking about next year being successful based on the continued presence of Christine Holgate on the board and Brendan Bolton straddling the football department and assistant coaching ranks.

I was expecting him to leave after 23.
Feels like we made up some roles for him to keep him around, but in reality the role he was performing didn't really make sense.

Understand his desire to leave and i'm fine with it.

Now a much clearer and defined remit for the GM football role without some weird position off to the side doing....something!

I feel like they're just waiting for Leppitsch to get the Houston deal done before the end of the trade period, so that then they can announce him in the role and point to the great job he did.

If we don't get Houston it'll go over like a fart at a funeral though.

pretty disappointing to lose Bolton. I rate him as an assistant coach.

it seems to be one after another this off season.
He said he didn't want to be an assistant anymore though. And he wasn't last year.

Now he's done a backflip.

Seems he got the job he said he wanted & realised it wasn't what he wanted after all.

I'd rather we now employ people who know what they want & have experience in that role.
