Oh Leppa is replacing Kelly is the big ogre now? 🙄

I love what's happened with the player's we've brought in, the draft picks, Matthew Boyd, the pick ups in the VFL...so something is working, imo.

Whether those people left for different opportunities, too long in the job, personality clashes..who cares? If it wasn't working, it's better for everyone to move on & start fresh.

I'm glad it's Leppa who has remained. Fly loves him & that's good enough for me.
Given we’ve seen both Bolton and now Hine move on after reportedly clashing with Leppitsch, it’s not unreasonable to start seeing some red flags over the red head.

2 flags in 20-odd year doesn't do Hine justice when you think about the grand finals and prelim finals we lost. Been a great recruiter for us.

I really hope we've got a replacement lined up. Hard to gauge a recruiter's ability at times; if you're not getting a competitor's head recruiter you're going to be taking a big-ish risk taking on someone further down the command.

How long til Carlton employ Hine 😂

I'm fearing the power that Leppa is apparently accumulating at the club, but to be honest, Derek Hine should have left the club about 10 years ago. Recruitment managers, like AFL coaches, have a finite lifespan. Since Jordan De Goey he failed to recruit anyone of note in the top 20 draft picks. Our recent premiership success is due to father - son picks and trades. Nathan Buckley should have snared at least one premiership at the club while Pendles and Sidey were there. Lousy draft picks scuttled Buckley's tenure as coach.
Do you get that trading is recruiting and whilst the final price may be the list manager's job, the recruiters do the work to get it there.

Should have won more than 2 just with the 2010 team he assembled.

He would be a good fit for Tasmania I reckon if they’re interested in an experienced ready made recruiter who has runs on the board

Runs on the board...

haha not for the last 7 years.

Would be a disaster for Tasmania.

This is the best News since Pies sacked Pert.

I can't believe the dribble people talk about Hind.

The evidence is right infront of you.

He has been hot garbage for years.

A lot of footy IQ going out the door. Is it a problem? Not sure.
All teams / organisations need change to grow. However having said that what are we to make of:
1. Wright leaving;
2. Bolton leaving; and now
3. Hine being told to leave?

Is Craig Kelly another yobbo in a pool of Yobbo’s? (not sure what the collective noun is for a group of Yobbo’s is).

Of all of the departures Wright is the one that causes concern not just because he went to the scumsuckers at Carrrrlton (I apologise to any reader if they are offended by my use of the term “Carlton”). I think I would’ve preferred to keep Wright and lose Kelly but such is life.

On the other side of the Heath Ledger is his mistress (sorry got carried away) is that for organisations to thrive they need to change. If these are the only variables for success then we’re in for a hell of a ride.

Go Pies.

Thank you to Derek Hine for your service.

You would think our recent failure is a combination of both bad drafting and talent development.

Has Hine drafted well the past 7 years?

Yes or No.

It is one thing to draft a player and another thing to develop him.

Has hine drafted poorly in recent years? Yes his talent identification in the early rounds has been poor, but blame also has to go towards the development program in place.

You can’t develop a clydesdale to be a group A winner no matter how good your development is.

Not to mention he's never again been seriously considered a senior coach in waiting despite the success that's followed him as an assistant.

Have people ever asked themselves why?

He has his strengths no doubt but I don't think it's any secret he proved to be an emotional loose cannon when in charge at Brisbane.

He's made it clear he doesn't want to be a senior coach again.

Bolton hasn't been approached for any of the recently vacated senior coaching roles either ..

Wright left a year ago.....not last month.

Wright was the guy we needed at the time, but his consistent accumulation of roles was unsustainable, from both an organizational and personal perspective.

Any incoming CEO would have issues with his role. Far too much risk for an organization to carry.
Which ironically was proven 1000% true by what happened last year.

Also, hard to be interim CEO....then get back to the GM role without there being friction.
The only mistake we made was not accepting the resignation and moving on last year.
Losing him allows us to re-think the structure.
create a structure for the future....not based on the past.

Leppa is in charge of list / recruiting.
Which i presume Dekka reported to him.
With any change at the top, expecting status quo is laughable.
Dekka has been great, but at some stage this lever needed to be pulled......might as well do it so that the new Head recruiter and New list manager can build that rapport.

Bolton wasn't really doing much assisting last year. He was more off field admin.
So I'm ambivalent about him one way or another.
A single assistant coach isn't going to make or break the team.
In fact, i want us to turn over our assistants more than we do.

Change is inevitable.
Without it, you can absolutely be sure we ain't getting near the top.

Personally, I love that we are making changes......

His best work was definitely done during the Malthouse era that’s for sure

His last decade has not been stellar, in particular with our prized first round picks.

His specialty is definitely finding good players in the later picks. So hopefully he left us doing some of his best final work

But I think his time had definitely passed at Collingwood

Probably fair to say that early on Derek’s perspectives and methods were probably advanced and unique within the industry

But as time went on and the industry further professionalised… those advantages waned a bit

Hine was one of the best in the business and unless we have someone of equal standing lined up it's the latest eroding of the team that helped us secure the 2023 Premiership. On paper it looks like a shit show with no Wright, Bolton, Hine, Leppitsch (in his assistant coaching role). Browne will soon depart also.

As for people already lauding Leppitsch in his role as list manager let's take a closer look.

1. His reputation has been earned in the role of assistant coaching. This is what we originally targeted him for.

2. He has no (or extremely limited) history in professional junior talent identification. Unlike Hine.

3. He's freshly minted in his role as list manager. He'll remain unproven until he isn't. We knew what we had in Wright when appointed.

4. Houston fell into our laps after Melbourne imploded off field and Carlton decided to prioritise the draft. Either of those two things don't happen then Houston is likely playing elsewhere IMO. Let's not forget also how Noble helped us acquire pick 13. Very very happy for it but it was dumb luck that all the stars aligned. Perryman will be a nice solid addition but let's not pretend it wasn't the pull of $800,000+ a year and playing for the club he supported as a kid that was the deciding factor. Membrey was surprisingly not wanted by St Kilda. Happy to have him but not sure we had to engage in a bidding war to get him.

5. As for the draft some people seem to be rating it (and by extension Leppitsch) simply because we took a couple of KPP at pick 47 and 50. I would suggest they spend more time asking why these players lasted until this stage and then accept if just one make it (including Hayes) then it would be a great outcome for such speculative picks. While the perception is Hine never drafts talls in reality his draft history is littered with KPP selections. The trouble is a lot were taken in the range of Cochran, West and later, it's why most fail at AFL level, most are quickly forgotten and why peoples expectations should be tempered once again.
