100%. Point system is some of the dumbest s**t the AFL has introduced.
Can you think of a better system than a points system? But I suspect they haven't got the points right for each pick. I suspect they haven't factored in the extra list spots needed for multiple picks.

According to some, he wants to. It would likely be late in the trade period though, as we would have to know what our cap situation is like after the other moves

Further to that it would have to be literally a Jordan Lewis-style junk pick trade right at the end if we're to take Titch on.

Anyone know how much he is on? If he's anything north of $600k then it'd be a firm no from where I'd sit, because he's not that final piece that would push us over the top to a flag I don't think, more a nice to have piece that would take the load off our other midfielders a bit.

Won't it look silly if we match after digging our heels in over behavioral clauses. I think the JDG camp knows that we can only get pick 17 for him and are using it to get rid of the clauses which tells me can't be trusted
He's getting bad advice because his manager is his brother in law.

Melbourne would think the exact same thing with Grundy.

And you believe these fishing expeditions . . . why?

It's the silly season remember???
I'm skeptical of all contract reporting. It always seems like every club must be way over the cap. I'm also skeptical of the behavioural clauses reporting. I can't see how they can put special Jordy clauses in without breaching broader player agreements - unless they are completely toothless clauses.

I get the point you’re trying to make, but they’re terrible examples. Cameron reportedly signed for less at the cats due to lifestyle. Martin’s contract is hefty, but he was offered more elsewhere. Albeit he announced several personal sponsors not long after including some who were also club sponsors.

Grundy from memory was offered a similar amount elsewhere and we essentially matched that offer.

The difference between us and Richmond / Geelong (and even Sydney) is that they also have the lure of being consistently successful and well run / well-coached clubs, albeit Richmond's status in that respect being more of a recent thing and maybe looking a bit shaky now.

It would have to be easier to get players looking for success to sign on for a bit less if you're actually able to dangle some tangible notion of success in front of them.

The draws we have in terms of attracting recruits are more along the lines of playing in the big games against other big clubs at the MCG 8-10 times a year, because we simply don't have that perception of sustained success that some other clubs currently have on their side.

De Goey won’t just be replaced with draftees we’ll get Bowes and could still go for a Fiorini or Mitchell.

Our short term flag chances will take a hit but if we’re in a better position long term ill take it. We’ve got plenty of time under Fly to win a premiership we don’t need to overpay for the short term imo.
We don't need Bowes and won't be drafting him. Why let JDG go and draft an overpaid, half-back to take his place?

Behavioural clauses reporting is a rich field for speculation simply because the clubs are - rightly - constrained from even passing reference to them so that players are protected and the media are well aware that they have an open field in this area.

I think it could be simplified a lot. You need a pick within 10. That's the discount. Brisbane would need a top 10 pick to get Ashcroft. We would have needed a top 14 pick for Daicos. Clubs trading away first round picks to avoid losing them is stupid. If you cant get the pick, you lose access to the player.

Henry and 42 for Geelong's 2023 1st.
Poulter for Frampton.
Our 2023 2nd for Fiorini and 25.
25 for Hill and 39.
47 for Mitchell.

Out: Grundy, Henry, Poulter, TBrown, CBrown, McMahon, Madgen, Chugg

2023 picks: Our 1st, Freo's 1st, Geelong's 1st, Our 3rd, Our 4th

Quaynor Moore Pendlebury
JDaicos Mitchell Sidebottom
NDaicos McStay Ginnivan

In (from prelim): McStay, Adams, Mitchell, Kreuger, Dean

Out: Cox, Bianco, Johnson, Noble, Hoskin-Elliott

I love your optimism, but would you want us to trade pick 23 (if we had it) on Poulter? 🤪

Doesn't have to be the end of it, but they're not exactly flush with picks atm so pick 23 is as good a starting point as any.

They're also flush with young players so it's not like a pick that will end up in the mid-20's will have much value for them this year, especially if they rate Poulter as a pick up.
