That is the issue isn't it. On one hand you have a ruckman on approx. $1m who has a disconnect with his midfield, is beaten by also rans and never will be's and struggles to mark above his head and known for his dinky kicks, against a ruckman who is on half of the ruckman's $1m salary, who is usless in the ruck as he can't jump and is regularly out-positioned in the ruck but can mark and on 8/10 occasions can play forward and kick goals. With either ruckman what we need are inside mids who are clearance specialists. They cost $$$ and draft picks... To do that we need to sell off somebody who is not meeting their contract $$$ and that can allow us to draft/trade in these players. Unfortunately that is Grundy

Mitchell and Fiorini could be had cheaply.

It looks like we have to lose ether BG or JDG this year, there is no getting out of it. It comes down to who the club thinks is the most value to the team going forward. I'm happy with the end decision, what ever that may be

Or we could not recruit McStay

not sure if I read the Herald Sun correctly this morning, but is Taylor Adams name up for trade? I'm not gutted if he is. I love the way he goes about it.. but realistically at 28-29 he has 2 maybe 3 years left and that might only be 15 games a year.
No... It was referring to Grundy but happened to use Adams in the same sentence "De Goey has been offered a four-year contract worth around $3.2 million – with some conditions attached – in an effort to stave off interest from rival suitors. Injured ruckman Brodie Grundy, who watched the game from back home, as did another wounded Magpie Taylor Adams, has also been linked to Melbourne in a possible trade."

McStay is crucially needed as Mihocek is getting closer to the end…and he will be a big beneficiary of his arrival.
We need another big body in attack and I think Krueger can play the second ruck role next season pushing Cox out.

Bobby Hill is also a need to have a genuine crumber

I think an elephant in the room is Mihochek and his form.

Combined with his age, I get the feeling the cliff is right there, and he is standing right on the precipice.
His form has been poor but he has been carrying a hip complaint for the past 8 weeks which reportedly requires surgery but he/club were holding out to seasons end

You’re going to be very busy, pulling up everyone discussing “what ifs” about last night.
Enjoy.
This is the trade thread, which is now the most significant thread on the board. It's time to discuss the upcoming trade period and this is the thread to do it. Surely even you can see that filling it full of your Grundy fan fiction doesn't help anybody.

Or could be a velvet fist in a velvet glove? We won't know until after this trade period is finalised whether our current administration is better or worse than the previous. No point jumping the gun to declare them GOAT until we've seen what moves they actually make.
The next couple of weeks are going to be very interesting

Where’s all this parish talk coming from? Does he actually want to come to us or is this all just wishful thinking on our behalf ? He would be a great acquisition but let’s be realistic we’d have to give up our daicos boys or ginnivans to get him which would be strong no for me.

Would of been nice if Taranto or hopper picked us instead of Richmond.

Over on another Collingwood forum, EBnW, a poster called ~TheScout~ posted a cryptic message to “Watch this Space” on Darcy Parish. ~TheScout~ is apparently an industry insider and has had good mail in the past.

Whilst I agree and don't think Cameron has the aggression needed to dominate in the ruck, Geelong are playing an average ruck (Stanley) and Hickey is a journeyman albeit hit some good form. I think Kruegar is the trump card. Could be an elite forward ruck if he could just stop getting injured.
In the brief time Kreuger was on the ground last night, he certainly approached his work with vigour & aggression.
We need more of that.

I've no doubt it looks that way but JDG needs to be able to break a hard tag going forward. He was shut right out of the game last night

Disagree. Wasn’t on his terms and wasn’t the flashy stuff we’d normally expect but played a role and did a lot of the grunt work. Had something like 8 tackles, 20 odd pressure acts, 5 or 6 score involvements.

DeGoey was good. Every player who cops a heavy tag struggles to be as effective.

Unfortunately this is true.

He does require surgery, major surgery, ground breaking highly experimental surgery. We have the technology.

It’s going to cost a reported $6 million, which is around half of our salary cap. Hence the need to offload Grundy, Henry, DeGoey, and potentially others. But it will be worth every cent. Mihocek will be better, stronger, faster.

Here’s a medical documentary about the operation that Mihocek will be undergoing.

We also would have gone deeper with who we get with the money we save on Grundy. We got dominated in the air last night and couldn't capitalise when we brought the ball to ground in the forward line for most of the first half - Surely Dan McStay and Bobby Hill could've made 1 point worth of difference.

Amazing how we can find hypotheticals to suit a narrative yet the obvious hypothetical that has some basis in fact is that Grundy wins hitouts and Grundy wins clearances so we’d be starting a lot more of our scoring attempts from our F50 instead of D50. Surely that could’ve been worth a point. Our crumbing goals weren’t a major issue.

The way he plays means he cops a physical beating every week.
In some respects I'm surprised he's kept playing, but in other respects, his pathway to AFL means he doesn't want to miss ANY game.
He's been a wonderful pickup.
McStay will be able to share the physical stuff and take a bit of pressure off Checkers.

If he wants to stay. Richmond and Geelong players have done it a number of times. Grundy's greed has created the problems we have now.

Why wouldn't you sign a three or four year contract with the understanding you will get more money and years if your form warrants it?

He had us over a barrel at the time and he made the most of it. The club is ultimately responsible for caving but we wouldn't have had to place ourselves in this predicament if not for his demands

What a crock of hyperbolic shit.

Personally I think this was the wrong call from him and the club. I don’t agree with playing injured players. His spot could of gone to someone else who could of made more of an impact to the side because let’s be honest checkers didn’t exactly set the world on fire being half fit…but anyways
