Take a chill pill, what a load of nonsense, have you seen Sydney's midfield? We would excel with or without JDG
Think you are underestimating how important he is. We got beaten easily without him against Sydney late in the year. He was just average in the Prelim but Sydney put a lot of time into him knowing he could be the difference. This allowed Pendles and Crisp to play so much better than the earlier game. Cant see us making another Prelim next year without him.

Still cant understand why we would give Mcstay 5 yr deal? 27/28 tr old.
With Degoey worse case scenario we match the offer and F--k the behavioural clauses to maximise what draft picks we get from the saints.
If he says he wants to go to saints? there is no turning back not even if we match the offer.
So will possibly end up with saints first rounder, and future first rounder
Worse case scenario
We have 3 first rounders 2022 draft, degoey grundy compo + ours
2 first rounders 2023 draft ours ,saints

Our top-end mid has gone from Bucks to Swan to Pendles to ... De Goey? What a drop-off in talent and professionalism. Swan at least learned from his mistakes whereas De Goey is looking like being a repeat offender for life. What's he doing in Vegas when he hasn't signed his contract yet?

i think Naicos will slide into that role perfectly
not all is lost, chin up

What's the panic about Degoey? He's our best match winner. Reportedly he was offered 800k earlier in the year anyway once he met behaviour triggers.

Thanks Nostradamus. “We” all don’t have a fair idea at all. Maybe you should head down to AIA and let Wright, Fly & Leppa know what a bad move they’re making? Those of us with a bit of footy nous can see what he’ll bring to the table. Besides, 100% fact you’d never call him a dud to his face, so let’s get behind him rather than $hit canning him before he’s played a game.
People with nous like bucks and other past players have said it doesn’t make sense.

I believe Mitch McGovern might be one that gets squeezed out of Carlton next year when they have to resign McKay (obviously we should in for him too). Hes on a ridiculous contract ATM so it would have to come down

Since being moved back his form has been solid. Good hands and field kicking means he could be a perfect replacement for Howe at 27 years of age.

Hine was picking blind that draft as were other recruiters.
Probably a bad idea not to trade for a future first with our first then, if we were to be picking blind in that particular draft with a premium asset.

Next year we will have a much stronger midfield and it won't require JDG. Our midfield was shallow this year, that's why he stood out and when we wanted him to produce in the prelim he was tagged out of the game

If we let De Goey go and use the cap space on Bowes it’s effectively pick 7, pick 17 and Bowes for De Goey.

Not the worst deal.

McStay will wipe out that #17.

Crows’ play for young Pie; Dees trio face uncertain futures amid rival interest: Trade Whispers

Poulter interest real.

Bit concerned about 2020 class given we're losing four already and that core was supposed to be our future. Chugg, McMahon, Henry and Poulter potentially gone leaving Macrae, McInnes, McCreery and Ginnivan.
Reads bad especially given the future pick 2 trade for Poulter and McMahon. Digging deeper:

Chugg - rookie

Poulter - has ability, but fits better with the slow kick/mark 2021 game style than the fast kick/run ‘22 style.

Henry - talent isn’t an issue. Did he slide because he didn’t want to leave home even if it’s only 1 hour down the road?

McMahon - Hine(?) said post draft he was a needs based selection rather than best available despite being pick 30. We now look to be addressing that need via other means. That said I’m surprised he didn’t get another year considering Kelly, Tohill and Keane all got more time.

It’s somewhat offset by getting Ginnivan in the rookie draft albeit they’re bizarrely trying umpire him out of the game. Stephenson didn’t develop, but Ginnivan’s ‘22 is statistically similar to JS in ‘18.

We relied heavily on Pendles in midfield this year, which was interesting as he started on a half back flank. Degoey was touted as one of the best finals performer before that Sydney game, and was one of our best in 2018. Being tagged out of one game is not an argument for being unable to perform.

Wait...What do people think GC are willing to accept for Bowes + 7? They're not going to do the deal for a 3rd rounder just to shed some salary.
They might. They'll get 2 1st round picks for Rankine & need to find money for Rowell & Anderson, so getting Bowes salary off the books will free up plenty of cap space if his rumoured $800K/yr is correct.
They did a similar deal for Will Brodie last year. Freo got Brodie and picks 19, 61 & 69 for a 2nd & 4th rounder.

If we add Mitchell and Fiorini, we won't even notice JDG gone. We can win the flag without JDG. He was tagged right out of the game on saturday which shows his limitations as a match winner. Can't remember Dusty being tagged out of a final. If we give JDG a 5 year deal it will be a big mistake.

We can only hope that the next one delisted is Hine
I think it had more to do with our limitations as a team that we had nobody else to play inside mid and push JDG forward to break the tag. Our cupboard for inside mids is bare

2020 islooking to have been a very very weak draft. Outside the top 20 there's barely a handful of players who have an impact.

Not really in the same ballpark.

It was Brodie +19 for a future 2nd. GC will be chasing a 1st rounder for Bowes + 7.

I get the point you’re trying to make, but they’re terrible examples. Cameron reportedly signed for less at the cats due to lifestyle.
No he didn’t. He signed at Geelong for more than GWS offered, and the Cats were shocked when GWS matched.
Martin’s contract is hefty, but he was offered more elsewhere. Albeit he announced several personal sponsors not long after including some who were also club sponsors.
Norfs offer was not much more than Richmond’s iirc. Maybe 10-15% more. And he very nearly took it. Norf were convinced they had him over the line.
Grundy from memory was offered a similar amount elsewhere and we essentially matched that offer.
Grundy was offered substantially more from Adelaide. Reports vary from $1.1-1.4m.

Can you guys understand why so many people are confused with Grundys so called salary dump to the dees?
Or is there more too it them meets the eye?
Technically there is no salary dump why?
Grundy on 900k-1m , replacement Mcstay 5yr deal on at least 600k.
Too most of us we question the longertivity of the Mcstay deal? which runs as long as the Grundy deal.
So we still pay the same amount of money for a lesser player including 300k to dees every yr for 5 years.
Only benefit one first rounder?
Is there a possibility the Grundy deal will be worth 2 first rounders? just thinking here.Especially if we are paying 300k grundy tax for the next 5 years?

Looks then like no salary dump, but a good enough deal for us!
Grundy for mcstay +:2 first rounders with no salary dump

We won’t get one first rounder for Grundy, let alone two.

I think we have to cut our losses. It’s not worth giving out money deals that massively hamstrings the caps future

The club already handicapped this premiership tilt when it chased short term success with the Beams and Grundy deals I hope the we’ve learnt from our mistakes since then.
My issue is the inconsistency of contract terms. When GW started he indicated he did not like long-term contracts. We already had Grundy signed on a 7 year deal. Yet since, we have signed Moore to a big $$$ 6 year deal. The Pies had been steadfast JDG would only get $800k at 4 years. Now in a blink it has been pushed out to 5 years. 5 years for JDG is a lot for a person who on average over the past 4 years misses 7 games a season
