Think we have Bigger Needs to try and Fix

Pies aren't getting a forward in free agency who is available? They are pretty hard to get.

Parish is a star fits a real age need and best of all he is a free agent.

Pendles and Sidey go that's a hole that's left plus Adams will be on the other side of 30.

Only way Collingwood get a serious forward anytime soon is if we have a stinker year and get an early pick (Nth Ade Haw) have that locked up unfortunately or we trade up to get an early pick.

Ben McKay should be our target as a free agent this year. Neither of Pendles or Sidebottom are going to be playing much as clearance players this year anyway, we’ll predominantly have Mitchell, Adams, Crisp, Daicos and Jordy running through there, amongst others rotating through. Unless the club feel that Adams is on his last legs, I don’t think they’ll regard another on-baller as a top priority over shoring up our key position stocks, be it forward or defence.

Not sure about that. Mitchell and Adams are at an age and with an injury history that you probably don't want to rely on them much longer term. If the likes of Carmichael and Macrae take a huge leap forward, sure, otherwise I think we are starting to look a bit thin if/when one of the above two miss games, particularly Adams. I think they might both end up being pretty equal needs.

I'm pretty confident Frampton can do a great job down back with Moore.

And if one of he and Moore are injured? Then it’s back to Murphy or Kelly. Not a good reason to overlook a quality KPP free agent given our current stocks.

Agree, if quality is available take it. If it isn’t then you go for a quality mid…we need that as well. I’m not sure Parish is the answer at the price. We want Naicos accumulating 40 touches, not parish.

I reckon we get the Hayes ruckman, Ben McKay and Fiorini. We then turn Ben into a fwd, will that work? f**k knows! Worth a try. I have a gut feeling about Fiorini. Thoughts?

Pretty good user Parish.

Parish is not so good or needed that he’s worth paying Dodoro tax for.
Move on.

He is a free agent, Essendon are bottom 5/6 they aren't matching.

I am too, but with Dean, Kreuger and Begg all injured and/or potentially not good enough, how could we not take a shot at McKay?

Plus, there is the chance that he could play forward at times, I mean North obviously don’t get the ball up that end of the ground, but we do, and McKay’s brother goes alright as a forward…

Fiorini gets mentioned every year, would be nice if we actually got him for once.

Prob depends where he sits in the pecking order this year. He did smooth out his contact by adding another year But don’t that matters too much if it is about opportunity

Didn't the Dees have a massive chunk of their cap locked into May and Lever in the year they won the flag, before the big deals for Petracca, Oliver and Brayshaw kicked in?
Probably. I still don't think it would be savvy in our position to choose to significantly up the amount of cap we're spending on defence - it'd already be a significantly more expensive line than our forward line and probably as much as our midfield.

I’m not against getting McKay but there are probably more cost effective ways to build depth.
He ain’t depth though. Dean is the cost effective dept, and Frampton to a lesser extent.

I honestly have no idea what this logic about “overspending”, in a specific area of the ground is based on.

Are Clubs seriously suggesting they’d choose to overlook a potential match winner because he’d blow the cap in a specific zone?
Or are they going to recruit him, and then play him in another zone that can accommodate his salary, within that zones Cap?

It’s just absurd logic IMO.

I think it’s a value for money/impact or opportunity cost scenario. It’s not so much about trading and draft picks anymore with free agency, but how much you’re willing to pay for players.

Quite clearly we made a decision that parking close to $2m in the Ruck was too much…impact per dollar it was not a good return…even though Grundy (imo) is still one of the most dominant combo rucks in the league with his clearance work and ability to grind opponents into the ground with his strength and mind. I’m not a fan that we are paying part of his wage, but I do agree with the decision.

Similarly if we had a choice between a gun back or forward or even mid, I’d put the defender last on the list with what we have currently. Even if the defender was objectively better, because you assume that you would then be paying more…and impact wise I think we have greater needs, our defence is pretty solid.
