A younger key forward to plan for post-Mihocek & Cox, and two strong 2-way midfielders.
I think Iā€™d prefer a stoppage beast over a couple of two way mids. Donā€™t get me wrong another gun two way runner would be great. Iā€™d just prefer we stiffen up at stoppage.

Iā€™ll settle for one of the 4! Ultimately we might already have two of them on the list in Allan and McReery. Itā€™s also worth noting that our two best small forwards this year are 30+ in 2024 (Adams and Elliott) so that area is also a watch. I think that leads into the push to give Harrison senior minutes.

The lack of talk regarding Parishā€™s future - whether he stays or goes - is absurd compared to some of the midfielders in the last few years. Even Brad Crouch was a much bigger deal when he was a free agent.

Iā€™ll be very surprised if heā€™s a Cat. The jungle drums usually beat this time of year if somebody is Geelong bound. They have too many ITKs in the media for this to stay quiet. But even Essendon have plenty and there seems no clarity from their end whether heā€™s close to re-signing or not.

This could be a Gaff-like situation where the player has absolutely no clue whether he wants to stay or go. Iā€™m still hopeful we can get him over.
The Parish situation is interesting. 6-8 weeks ago noise out of the Bombers that an announcement was imminent that Parish had signed a long-term deal. Since then.... Nothing. Parish hasn't put pen to paper & now coming out of Essendon is that Parish is being pedantic. It is reported the Parish camp & the Bumbers are less than $100k apart, and that both parties won't move. Bumbers think he is worth no more than $700-750K..

What does one think he is worth? He is averaging 31.3 possessions this year (25 over his career). Ranked 1st in Centre Clearances, ranked 2nd in clearances per game, ranked 2nd in contested possessions, 3rd in possessions per game, ranked 1st in I50's per game, ranked 7th for effective disposals per game

I could see McCreery transitioning into a similar role to Adams in splitting mid and forward time, just in case we're not sure he's ready for full midfield minutes yet. Allan is an exciting prospect. Would have liked to see Draper move into the VFL midfield earlier in the season, but it may be too late for him.

Reef is a real question mark for me. No idea how he'll develop.

Love Larkey and what he offers. Prefer him over the Kings etc. Unfortunately signed a long-term contract until the end of 2029
Oh yeah, don't actually think he's in the realm of possibility. Just that he should be in black & white stripes, not blue and white

So Parish wants about $800K?? i think that's reasonable, i'd be very happy if Collingwood signed him for that amount, but i'm very sure that if Parish asked to be trading he'd all of a sudden be a once in a lifetime 1mill+ player to Essendon.

I reckon he should be a rung below our top earners. 700 at most imo. Good player but not enough hurt factor with disposals. Not an A grader imo

Whilst it might seem to only be a Pies thing according to BigFooty, isn't that essentially how we nabbed Frampton?

Frampton is/was 27

Played at 2 clubs

You comparing him to Fin, Josh and Reefe?

Carmichael has been on our list whatā€¦a year or so? In the rookie draft no less. Youā€™d think the dude would be rapt to have the current AFL career he has for the top of the ladder side.

Frampton is still not 27 lol, and was 25 when we were getting into him (Carmichael will be 24 in a month).

If Frampton doesn't suit, what about Lipinski? Bobby Hill?

What AFL career? He barely plays and is nearly in his mid-20s

Reef is in the Daicos (Josh) category for me at this stage of his career. The talent is there but he has significant limitations due to his fitness. If he can get that right, as Josh did (asthma management in his case) I think weā€™ll see how good he can really be.

Thatā€™s not to say heā€™s guaranteed to get to Joshā€™s heights or even make it, but some players take a little more time than others, and if theyā€™ve got ā€œitā€ sometimes you just have to be patient.

With the system we play, in particular the plug and play nature of our defence, I'd like to see us investing a significant amount of our salary cap in our midfield.

Last week's game showed that our defence is capable of coping in circumstances where someone like Moore is unavailable or injured, particularly if our pressure around the ball and up the ground is where it should be.

A clearance player like Parish is worth their weight in gold in our system as it gives us a better chance of taking territory from the centre bounce, thereby allowing us to implement our preferred structure behind the ball.

On average across all the teams in the league, Parish might be worth $700-$750k. For someone like Carlton or Melbourne his worth might be less, as they already have some very good stoppage players in their midfield. For someone like us however, his value is likely to be above that, particularly when you consider who's currently available and capable of filling that role in our side in the short and medium term.

I see Carlton have signed 2 Irish lads today
Yet we are looking like having a vacant Cat B list in 2024ā€¦.

Agree, and I think that the coaches seem to as well. I think what makes him hard to get a read on is the different roles he's played in (and looked good in!) thus far. Has shown flashes as a lead-up forward, as well as in the midfield. He should spend some time shadowing one of our distance runners and soak up as much as he can.

He is still just 20! Heaps of time

Too small and non-tackling for the big bucks IMO. $750k is about righht
I would be happy to pay up to $800k. When compared to others he is right up there:

I guess $50k isn't really a huge difference. I think there are a few points of difference between Parish and some of the others you listed (not going into his superiorities).

Mitchell: superior tackler.
Anderson: superior disposal.
Oliver: superior tackler & disposal.
Neale: probably quite similar at this stage.
Cripps: superior tackler.

That being said, beggars cannot be choosers. Parish would give us a boatload of first use with his nose for the footy. I think someone like Parish accompanied by McCreery becoming more of a midfielder would be pretty good for setting us up down the track, as Beau can hone in on defensive sweeping work.

Mitchell aside, I reckon Parish would comfortably be the least valuable of that lot both in terms of trade value and hurt factor. Throw in the fact you probably have to trade with Essendon to land Parish and I'd be wary.

I've been hearing for 18 months from what I consider a decent source that he was keen to come to the Pies but unless he comes without having to trade I don't see how it could be done. Also, that was under the previous coach so his ambitions may have changed.

I'd rather us throw a good/middle-range offer to a young mid starved of opportunities somewhere.

We have been linked to Freo's Liam Henry but I believe Western Bulldogs are in the box seat. Some media say Hawthorn while St.Kilda has also been linked.

We haven't really been linked with any others.

Ben McKay = Essendon
Sam Flanders = ??
Tyler Brockman = West Coast
Darcy Parish = Stay/Geelong
Elijah Hollands = ???
Brody Grundy = Stay/Port
Tom Barrass = Sydney
Dylan Stephens = North
Zac Fisher = West Coast
Jeremy Sharp = Freo

There is still some talk about Max Homes who we have been linked to.
Mitch Georgiades has also been linked to us but more so to West Coast.

Bailey Smith = Stay/Geelong

Clubs rumoured to be looking at our guys:
Trent Bianco = ???
Finlay Macrae = Essendon and Richmond
Arlo Draper = Port
Reef Mcinnes = St Kilda
Jack Ginnivan = North
Josh Carmichael = North
These could be serious or just monitoring for DFA like Poulter?
