Tomlinson out of Melb might come cheap enough.

Haven’t necessarily rated him but champion data have him as one of the best 1-1 defenders this season.
Stick him at FB.

It also takes depth from Melb - something they’ve done very well vs other clubs.
I'm not sure Tomlinson has much of anything left in the tank

Harmes is an interesting one.

He has had a down year, only playing 9 games, yet his career average stats don't read too badly, especially considering he started as a small forward. Above average for disposals, tackles and clearances across 152 games - he has been a solid contributor, particularly when you factor in the other mids he's competing with for a place.
True.

TRADE TROUBLE

CLUBS are expecting plenty of trade stand-offs this year as the value of picks after the top 30 decreases in the eyes of list managers and recruiters.

With a shallow draft pool expected – clubs are predicting less than 60 picks are used at the national draft – there is set to be a flow-on for a number of deals that otherwise may be worth second- and third-round selections.

Clubs opting to use three or fewer draft picks may simply not see a value in later draft picks being exchanged for wantaway players, with impasses expected to be common in the trade period due to clubs simply not wanting to use picks past a certain range.

It will likely leave clubs pushing to instead trade for future selections, but the reverse effect of the draft class is that clubs keen to trade in players this year will be largely wanting to use 2023 selections to get deals done. – Callum Twomey

We've already got AJ and Kreuger. We won't add another unless it's a different role.
Khamis is a bit different to AJ and Kreuger. Similar in some aspects, like being athletic enough to pinch hit in the ruck. But he's more like Reef up forward, and has also spent lots of time down back

His goal kicking accuracy looked horrific when we played them in VFL this year

I don't really know anything about him, but a bloke who can play tall and small in defence would be handy. I've got a feeling that Jezza might retire.

Don't say that! An athletic swing type (who is actually happy to be a swingman, unlike Kreuger or whoever) would be good

Anyone think we're going to do anything notable on the trade front this year?

I can't see it. We'll have no retirements to free-up dollars and list spots. We also have very few uncontracted/frustrated players wanting out, other than perhaps Fin Macrae and Bianco, neither of whom I imagine would attract a pick much lower than about 40.

So I reckon we'll do very little this year and will set ourselves to be bigger players in 2024, when perhaps someone light Naughton could be gettable.

Any alternative views?

At this point, no signs are pointing to anything much. I've asked around with some journos I know, but nothing is lingering about. Reckon pretty quiet, and go bigger next year where we may have a few retirements.
