Although it seems a good problem to have, it would be interesting to know how much a potential father/son prospect is talked up by reason of their familial connections and how this affects the drafting decisions made by certain clubs.

i.e. we passed on Weideman and Stewart in previous drafts - would the position be the same today?

Mark Weideman, Sam's Dad, didn't play enough games for Pies to qualify for father/son in the draft anyway.

I really want to go after Himmelberg and Parish but they’ll come at a cost and leave the club hamstrung.

We should be going after the cheaper role players such as Flanders, Sweet, Fiorini and Amartey.

You can add Elliot Himmelberg to that list. I can't help seeing a Frampton story with him

Weidman was not a Father Son

Yep doggies will have in 2024:

  • Liam Jones, 33yo, 199cm, 98kg
  • Alex Keath, 32yo, 198cm, 93kg (Retire?)
  • Rory Lobb 31yo, 207cm, 106kg
  • Josh Bruce, 31yo, 199cm, 102kg
Future:
  • Tim English 26yo, 208cm, 107kg
  • Aaron Naughton, 24yo, 196cm, 92kg
  • Jamarra Ugle-Hagan 22yo, 197cm, 91kg
  • Sam Darcy, 20yo, 208cm, 98kg
  • Jed Busslinger 20yo, 198cm, 85kg
  • Jordan Croft (F&S) 19yo, 200cm, 80kg
Would love to pry Naughton or JUH away from them.
Absolutely, if King was to be a no then we need to have a back up plan, hopefully we're in Naughton's ear as I believe he will be the one we can shake loose.

Hope you don’t mind but the club a few weeks ago signed James O’Donnell a 197cm key defender as a Category B Rookie.

James O’Donnell was pursuing a career in cricket then switched back to football. His father Simon and Grandfather Kevin played cricket and with the saints
Thanks Mate, I now recall the stories about him. Good luck.

If we can get Parish it’s a no brainer.

He’s seriously come on in the last few years. Essendon dropping off will help make him itchy.
We have Mitchell. Only be interested if Adams retires otherwise no spot for him.

If I was Essendon Id ditch him they have Hobbs.

If I am Parish Id be staying or going to Cats.

There is always a spot for a quality midfielder. We also have Pendles getting old and Adams who seems to be already struggling with his body. Mitchell and Parish would be insane in the midfield together

Agree. Unless King is available for something reasonable, which would still be expensive. I'm reticent about the risk, however, it would achieve two important things to contemplate the move.

It improves us now in what looks like a premiership window.

It also future plans for life after Mihocek who is getting on and will leave a massive hole.

So it's a short and long term investment that will be easier to accomodate with retirements (re: the cap).

Otherwise agree with you if that isn't realistic.

What cheapy KPD are out there?

Yeah, by kids I really meant blokes with a lot of footy ahead of them, be it a recruit or a draft. King would be nice. I doubt the price would be right though.

In terms of kpd, we only need a squad member for depth. No idea who, but there's usually a few around.
