Moving on from North …

… would GWS be incentivised to bid on Daicos at pick 2 to help their later pick position? For example, GWS are currently holding pick 53. The earlier Daicos and Darcy are called out, the better that pick 53 becomes. Best case for GWS they call out Darcy at 2 and Daicos at 3, and their pick 53 would become a pick around 45. If Daicos and Darcy go later, then their pick 53 might be closer to pick 49 or 48.
GWS are only likely to have the list spots to take their 2 first rounders plus the Next Gen Josh Fahey

It’s what it’ll take for a guy with a year to go on his contract - if we are serious

We shouldnt be going anywhere near a deal like that. And it’s unlikely that GWS would hold him against his wishes with unreasonable trade demands. I don’t see any club giving up a first round pick for him.

Better taking the better players in national draft while they are available rather than risk them not being available in rookie draft
Yeah, but you can only upgrade rookies if they are on your rookie list and contracted (and you have available list spots on your list).
So those players you delisted can’t be drafted unless they nominate for the draft. There’s the risk for those.
And same will apply to the rookie draft…

More out of curiosity than anything - if we were to trade our 27 for Hill, could we trade the future picks we got from Freo and GC to get back in the 2021 second round if needs be for Daicos points?

As much as Hill would be nice we aren’t in the market for a contracted best 22 player this off season.

GW and crew just need to focus on getting & keeping the necessary Daicos (Dib) points, nabbing our couple of cheap out of contract fringe types (Lip & Kreuger) and if possible getting another 2022 pick back in.

Back in Ginnivan/McCreery to be our small goal kicking pressure forwards.

Next year is the year we can try and get back in the bigger fish market (with our first and future first).

Foxfooty.com.au says: Essentially sold their 2022 farm in order to ensure they had enough points to match any bid for father-son prospect Nick Daicos, who is widely seen as a top-two prospect, if not the No. 1 guy at this year’s draft. They fully expect to pick up young Bulldog Patrick Lipinski either by trade or through the pre-season draft and have brought in Nathan Kreuger from Geelong for extra height up forward to assist Darcy Cameron and Brody Mihocek.

So according to fox footy giving up a 2nd rounder in 2022 is selling our 2022 farm. Seriously who employs these people!
The same mob that bring you Robbo and Ralphy.... Newscorp. Not a brain amongst them

I would rather get Michael Gibbons for nothing tbh

Am I the only one who think Bobby Hill is one of the more over rated players in the AFL? I realise I probably am, but more than happy to give that one a miss
I don't get the call to bring him in either. I thought I was the only one and must be missing something.

I understand us enquiring about Hill. But if the asking price is a future 1st rounder then walk away. He’d be a nice addition to our forward line but as others have said you don’t spend 1st rounders on small forwards especially 1st rounders that are ecpected to be a top 5 pick.

Assuming our future 1st becomes tradable again (which it currently isn’t) we need to put a premium on it. If it’s not netting us someone like McDonald/Ugle-Hagan etc or a top 5 pick this year to nab someone like Callahan then hold for next year.

As part of the fallout/review we said we were going to stop trading out draft picks for expensive players. Hill ... no. Bad vibes. He really would be suited to St Kilda or Essendon. We just should be focusing on our cheap additions that don't cost or set us back much at all. A lot of outlets are suggesting we should be bold and daring but that's what got us into the problem that we have now. We tried to buy a premiership. Veto our way to a flag when we probably should have just backed off, made smart selections and not let as many of our 2010 playing group walk.

Melbourne's Afterpay strategy will come undone one day. Essendon's moneyball isn't guaranteed (buyer beware if the price is as low as you think). And Hawthorn's blind fire sale is just stupid. This trade period we've made smart trades. We haven't done anything stupid. We've done intelligent moves which benefit us. We're not trying to cheat the system, we're working with it for players who can't get games but are good enough.

If we are looking to maintain some 25+ Year old depth players on the list would you rather we retain Thomas or replace with Gibbons?

And don’t say neither.
I like Gibbons but I'd prefer a defender. Our defensive stocks are low and defenders are difficult to find.

‘Our best 6 are top notch. After that it gets thin I agree.

I thought the argument was that defenders are a dime a dozen. That is part of the ‘Moore needs to play forward’ argument. Not that I agree.
