I don't mind what North has done, I'm sure that the 3 pick minimum rule wasn't brought in so that teams could delist wanted players and then re-recruit them as a ND Pick - GCS took a risk and North saw an opportunity to improve their list.

Yeah, I don't see it as dodgy either. They persuaded him to come across - if they had have drafted him when he wanted to stay with GC it might be a bit dodgy.

Having to use 3 draft picks really is a terrible rule though.

Not sure how this reflects on Greenwood, especially if his "current" contract was front loaded.

I don’t see it as a poor reflection on Greenwood at all. He’s a 15-20 type player, and with a limited career span, he’s entitled to take a better deal to set him up for the future. More than anything it’s terrible management from GC. If they’re going to delist and redraft a player, make it a depth player that they can afford to lose, who doesn’t hold much appeal to other sides, not a best 22 player who they’d gone out of their way to recruit from a rival already.

North probably have the cap space. Not sure it was a good fit for us. If he was a couple of years younger yes. To old for our needs (and I would suggest North’s)
We definitely dont have 500k to spend on a almost 30 year old, I wouldn't think

Well there we go!
Edit: piss poor list management from the suns to select a desirable player to delist/re-draft, and a bit of a dog act from North to poach a contracted player. Actually changes the whole landscape in terms of trust in other teams not to be underhanded with these sorts of situations.

Let's not forget that the Suns are an AFL-run club here.

As I said earlier this is exactly what should happen when a good player is delisted in an effort to game the list size and draft pick restrictions, so it's not a dog act at all for North or any other club to swoop in and make him an offer (which he apparently couldn't refuse, likely because it was 3 years at 500k vs 2 years at 400k) under the circumstances.

I would have expected a two-week bidding war for his services if this hadn't have happened today, as he is a very solid midfielder and there are a number of clubs who might consider themselves to be on the edge of or in contention that could have used him - Richmond and Freo are two that spring to mind off the top of my head but I'm sure given two weeks of manoeuvring other finals (or aspiring finals) teams could have made room for him on their books.

No problem with North over this... the guys been delisted, he's fair game...

Half a mil for a 30 year old mid when we won't be in contention until after he retires???

Quite the opposite I think.
Agreed.

I thinking long term, they'll be fine. Clears some cap space, and doubtful he would be best 22 in 2023.

If he entered the draft with his heart set only on remaining at the Suns to the failings of all else, irrespective of contract offer etc that would be draft tampering on the Suns part anyway I would assume.

Any club that could eat the contract would be entitled to select him irrespective of any intention of the delisting club to redraft him. That’s why it’s called a draft, after all.

Apparantly the plan was for him to nominate for the PSD

I wouldn't be surprised if the GC were happy to dangle him out there. Frees up some much needed space for King etc.
Who knows, maybe even gets them a seat at the table for a play for that free agent JDG?

Campbell didn't seem too fussed by it. It sounded as if they were unsure if they would even extend his contract past the next year.
I don't think it was an 'accident' they were unprepared for at all. Possibly even set up.

I was more referring to losing two very good players by questionable decisions....
Oh yeah, true. It's not ideal. This one was just a mistake that massively backfired.. But they'll be fine, more opportunities for the likes of Fiorini. Maybe give Bowes mids minutes. Not to mention more games for Davies and Hollands (debut) and I heard they are looking into Constable or Dumont.
