Alot of that is how Grundy has been coached in terms of what to do by the previous regime. The last few years he has been instructed in my eyes to just tap in close and around the congestion to play a high number of stoppages.
We need him to be able to hit beyond the congestion, to players on the move and not just at the feet.
This is something i am hopeful the new regime identify/
Yes, we've seen Max Gawn belt it forward for his mids to run onto with a full head of steam. We just need Grundy to be coached to vary his tapouts more. Because his taps have been worked out by other teams, many have been sharked by opposition players. If our mids know what he's going to do, by how they've been coached, we'll get a better "connection", and win more clearances. It's not entirely Grundy's fault that many of his taps have gone to opposition players.

Yep, I think we're in violent agreement. Maybe we can consider the re-build to have started next year!
Perhaps not the rebuild started when the club was forced to admit the strategies it had been pursuing were no longer tenable.

It's a messy world we live in and nothing is cut and dried.

Why don’t we back over it again? It’s not like it hasn’t been dissected ad nauseum

It's important we keep going over this again and again until someone faces the consequences for the stuff ups.

At the moment absolutely nobody has lost their jobs over this - unless you count the President, the replacement for that President, most of the board, the Senior Coach, most of the Assistant Coaches, the Football Director, the List Manager and many players.

So as you can see we have no choice but to keep dredging this up.

agree completely.
The above list just doesn't show enough accountability in my book.
I think we should keep going over this until the high performance boss gets replaced too......

If you put the rose tinted glasses down, we’re effectively a glorified list of VFL players, with a sprinkling of seasoned veterans. Throw in a new coach / system, and this year has spoon written all over it…

hopefully we’re at least competitive, so our kids get a decent run at playing more than just defence all year
You seem to have not factored in the improvement available due to the replacement of our dysfunctional coaching group

I wish we'd try and re-recruit him. He had issues with Buckley and the culture in 2014-15 so it'd be good if we could put him to some use again.
The 'culture'??? Didn't he leave because the Saints offered him a guaranteed $300k pa for 3 years, while the Pies offered significantly less because he couldn't get on the park?

And also, we did pick up St Kilda's 2nd round pick, which was probably good given he didn't play a game in the 2 years. In fact, it was a poor outcome for the Saints who delisted him end of contract.

I'd be shocked if GC actually offered him a contract.

Then why did we trade him for such a poultry price?
Thought we got a good price, 2nd rounder wasn’t it, for a player whose career had been stymied by injury

The discussion is about Nathan Freeman for those interested. I had to go back 4 pages to figure it out

Just on Freeman leaving it had nothing to do with Buckley per se. It was a mix of the management of his injuries, the offer from St Kilda being to good to refuse and his the family being St Kilda nuffies. I can’t be sure of the timing of that interview Gone Critical, but a guy working in player management is hardly going to shit on a former coach.

Also VinnieB is correct it’s highly unlikely he gets the spot, but it’ll be interesting to see whether he needs to step away from Connors sports if he does. Imagine him tackling Nick Daicos and causing him to break a leg or something. Massive conflict of interest.

Back to the free agency debate... I wouldn’t look into it until end of 2023.

At that point some of the older players are gone like Pendlebury, Howe, Roughead and probably Sidebottom... making it a good idea to fill a spot (particularly in defence) with an experienced 25-26 year old player

Secondly, no point paying big money to lure a player when the team is still outside of contention... but if all things go well, by the end of 2023 the youth in the side is ready for a decent crack in 2024... whilst the likes of Adams, Crisp, Moore, Grundy and Maynard are still (hopefully) at the top of their game

Agree, apparently it's the same leg as last year, but a different spot in the leg - not sure there's a more professional footballer going around, reckon if anyone can come back from an interrupted pre-season it's Pendles
In addition at his stage of career he can get away with a managed pre season, may even be helpful.

Classic Collingwood! Wouldn't be a preseason without an injury or two. :p
Pendles is professional and by the look of Jen2310 reports seemed to be in cracking nick. A few weeks off his leg won't be too detrimental, I expect. It may even set an example for the younger brigade on how to stay motivated, be professional and stick to the programme.

Best condition of his career for mine. Like GC I feel like it could even be helpful.
