Lemmey and Keeler. Hit the SA dou.

Keeler just screams a Hine type type. Ultimate boom or bust.

On a side note (and I know people will shoot it down) but I wouldn’t mind monitoring how Paddy Dow goes this year.

Probably going to play the majority of the year in the VFL given Carlton’s midfield depth and started the season like a house on fire today. It will also mean he’d cost a packet of chips.

For all this talk about state league players he will probably be close to the best performing player in the league (very similar to Lipinski last year).

Sure he has his issues with his ball use by foot but he is still only 22, has scope to keep developing, and would be a significant upgrade on many of our later string midfield options.

It would be ****ing brilliant if we could nab Dow and turn him into a quality AFL player

Hmmm righto. I think we wait until he’s played an actual match v real opposition before wrapping him up…

I saw enough of Corey Gault to know to wait until the real season begins until I get excited.

That said, from what I’ve seen on the highlights I’m intrigued and will be keenly watching how he goes along with Harrison, Johnson and Draper.

Jen’s favorites have gone ok so far in Nick Daicos and Lipinski but they were relatively easy spots. She goes 3/3 with Begg we’ll need to start talking about how we get her on to the scouting team.

We seem to be a dying breed! The other that’s been burned into my brain was Chugg who was talked up off the charts this time last year and although I might have been a bit hard on him he has gone nowhere near what he was touted to do. I’m intrigued like you in Begg and the others you mentioned, but I’m probably most looking forward to seeing McInnes.

I know we saw it early last year from them, but something feels different about the Swans in 2022 and watching Warner, Rowbottom and Goulden go to work through the midfield has me yearning for our young kids getting a crack. With the influence guys like Cripps/ Oliver/ Wines/ Bont can have these days in the middle if he comes on quick I think we can give the 8 a shake.

Apparently Jack Lukosius likely to head to port end of the year. Port will have Dixon, Jack, Marshall, Georgiades & Finlayson.

So they’ll have one KPF (at 32) and a bunch of flankers to go with him? If I had cap available it’s 100% not where I’d be investing it if I were Port. Their midfield needs serious bolstering if they’re to get anywhere near the likes of Melbourne, Doggies, Carlton and Sydney in 2023 and beyond.

Stoker is another one with ability to watch from the Blues. How did he go? Did he play in the same game or is he injured?

Can’t believe I didn’t list Reef amongst them.

I feel like I know what I’m going to get from Macrae as he’s played some seniors but Reef is like the other 4 in that you just want to see how they play.

The difference with Reef though is like Macrae I want to see him force his way into the senior team in the first half of the year.

The others are more a long burn and I just want to see development, or in Johnson’s case the fitness to see out a game.

Admittedly I don’t watch a lot of Lukosius but given how he was hyped I think he’s been well and truly underwhelming. If I was Port I’d be wary as the trade price will be steep and I don’t know if he deserves that kind of price.

I’d have Georgiades we’ll ahead and given a choice of the two that’s who I’d be going with.

Was thinking this exact thing yesterday but didn't have the stones to post it.

Also worth noting m kennedy has started the year really well for them, but was delisted 18 months ago so will be a UFA and you'd think on minimum chips. If nothing else a chance to squeeze their salary cap.

I’d love Lukosious tbh. He’s no KPP, but as a Howe replacement 3rd intercepting tall I reckon he’d go close to AA pretty quickly.

I watched a fair bit of the Swannies game. I'm still waiting to see what the hype is around Logan McDonald. What's his standout trait?
I feel a bit the same. Footy smarts? Forward craft? He looks a run of the mill athlete (by AFL standards) with average hands and an inability to get separation on the lead. He’s not in the same territory yet, but he’s currently projecting in a similar vein to Fogarty, IMO.

He was meant to have Nick Riewoldt-like running stamina and leading patterns coming out. Had really good forward craft and was a strong 1v1 mark too.

I barely watch Sydney games, so can't comment on how he's looking.

A lot of the top 10 picks from 2020 draft have had slow starts
I think Sr was hinting at something slightly different. I agree that they’ve had slow starts overall, but all of JUH, Thilthorpe, Cox, Perkins, DGB and Campbell have shown glimpses of the future. The two from that top 10 that would give me pause on that front right now are Phillips and McDonald (they’ve got time though). Reid and Hollands haven’t really been sighted.

To be fair to McDonald, he debuted with a bang, 3.1, 11 disposals and 5 marks is a cracking first game for a KPF, so that’s really your glimpse of the future, much like Thilthorpes debut last year.
Now McDonald isn’t in stellar form, but Thilthorpe couldn’t even make the 22 this week, so I’m not sure why Logan gives pause for thought but he doesn’t.
IMO they’re both going to be very good key talls in the future. Not freak athletes like the Kings, but they’ll be up there with the better key forwards of the league in 3-4 years.

Thilthorpe being dropped said more for Nicks than Thilthorpe so let’s leave that to the side. Talking purely AFL traits in those glimpses and I just haven’t seen it yet from McDonald.

Thilthorpe is every bit the freak athlete the Kings are at that 200cm size, JUH moves so smoothly with this innate sense for goals, Cox the same as the other two with his movement plus those skills wow, Perkins just does the right things, DGB is already rock solid in defence and Campbell is starting to shine with that exquisite left boot. Aside from that first up performance (v good mind you) what standout AFL traits is he showing you? His contested work? His ability to get up and down the ground? If I go back to Fogarty he also had a standout game early on (he kicked 5 in his 12th match).

FWIW I am a firm advocate of McDonald and us investing in similar guys early in the 2022 draft, but right now I feel like Sr’s questioned was justified and I’d like to see the next layer from him. It is pause only it’s definitely not Kelly style alarm bells.
