Assuming they have cap space, they should be asking questions of every capable mature aged KPF they can. Need to keep a strong forward line with their midfield and backline strong and steady

Will be quite interesting to see what they do. A very hard player to replace. Take him out of that team and they probably don’t win at least 1 of their finals maybe more. This is the year they also can’t really afford to be using any draft capital to replace him with something decent either. They might have to go with a cheap ready made option for a year or two.

Pretty bloody good is my answer.
Which is why we see so many of our players training in multiple roles.

We don't really have many players outside of KP that can't fill multiple roles very well.
It's actually what makes us have some level of depth, when on paper we really don't have any!!!

i'm keen to keep the one paced mids to a minimum and use others to fill that role if we run out of options during the season.
Yeah I wouldn't be recruiting a midfield only guy. Because you want them to be be inside/outside players, which means they'd be good flankers. A proven inside specialist like Mitchell is fine, but getting very rare.

If I was them I'd trade a first round pick for Krueger.

How must Essendon feel? Would not pay up for Dunkley and then would not pay up for Bobby Hill! I miss Dodoro!

Mind you, Bris played hardball on the Dunkley trade as far as I remember.
Essendon tried to play hardball on contracted guys ...

I also hope they keep McInness.

But there’s plenty room for him, perryman and say a Fiorini and/or a tall defender on the senior list

Especially as Noble and possibly Richards to leave

Krueger without a deal yet

Senior/rookie list just gets restructured to suit desired mix

Easy to do considering Begg and Carmichael already gone from rookie list

And Dean, Bytel, Sullivan (and possibly Eyre and Long out of contract too)
There really isn't that much room.

We currently are carrying 2 more Rookie spots which can be converted into Senior spots.
Begg and Carmy allow us to use their spots as primary spots.
Perryman cancels Murphy.

Beyond that its 1 off for each 1 on for each trade / draft pick used.

Given we need to take 3 picks in the draft, one of Kruegs or Reef would have to be delisted for us to bring in the minimum 3 at the draft.
(yes assuming no Rookie elevations....which the only one i'd be happy promoting is a Cat B.....so he's not getting promoted until we have to).

If we wanted to shuffle some back to Rookie list, there is a risk they don't get to us (i.e. i doubt Macrae would last as i assume he'd be happy to go elsewhere if he wasn't contracted and could walk).

So if you want to bring in Kennedy or Tomlinson (as and example DFA)....then we need to find 2 more spots beyond one of Kruegs / Mcinnes.

Noble leaving is 1.
Richards leaving is another.

So assuming those two leave and we bring in no one else....one of Mcinnes or Kruegs will be delisted.
Maybe re-rookied.....but for the purpose of the Draft they will not be on our list.

Each player beyond that will require another one gone......

Decisions we make on players will be weighed up against a current primary list incumbent.

The problem with those three is that they're all offensive mids - they run ahead of the ball and can get caught on the wrong side of centre if the clearance goes the other way.
You need a balance - some one covering the defensive side of the centre circle.
That said, I'd be happy to get any or all of the three!
I think JHF will move more into the centre square with Rozee moving out of it

No it isn’t. Just need players like JDG and Mitchell available. Just added Perryman to the mix as well.

I'm starting to notice a pattern where you don't read entire posts and then make reply based off what little you've taken in

This season, our midfield was 100% our weakness, mostly due to injury.

I said in my post that we can't guarantee an injury free season

Ergo, there's nothing wrong with having some decent quality midfield depth should we once again find ourselves missing some of our most important players.

Where’s this “plenty of room” coming from? We’ve already replaced Murphy’s list spot with Smit (as a rookie). Only Begg delisted and Carmichael retired thus far. Noble and Richards may or may not depart. Already added Perryman and according to some have interest in others. Kreuger and McInnes the only pending senior list vacancies. Need to take 3 picks (or rookie list upgrades) at the draft. I just don’t see the list space to merit recruiting depth as we’ve done in the past with players like Frampton.

Senior-rookie list restructure requires delisting of any player and then redrafting so you make yourself vulnerable to a Greenwood situation where another team beats you to them. Can see them doing it with Johnson as they’d wear the risk, Kreuger and McInnes as well given they remain unsigned, but there aren’t many others and the player needs to agree to do it.

The situation with Joe Richards is interesting. Lots of players officially requesting their trades now especially those with one one serious club of interest.

I imagine he’s gone but he must have interest from others than Port. Bit of a worry that it’s someone like Carlton looking for outside pace and class.

Don’t want anything diluting what we might get for Noble. If we want Fiorini, keep it separate.

Personally, I’d prefer we didn’t chase him. “Better” than Long, Bytel, and Sulli isn’t much of a consideration if we’re clogging the list spots with depth and denying ourselves draft opportunity.
Fiorini should only be the steak knifes in any deal with Noble

It would be great, but there’s a salary cap.

I don't think there's a squeeze and think we can add 8 more to the senior list if we want to - 7 if Richards re-signs

I think we'd be quite happy for someone to take Macrae if we delisted him to rookie him

Senior to Rookie
Johnson, Macrae

Senior delisted
Reef, Krueger

Senior traded
Noble, Richards

Switch to 38 senior guys - 2 more spots.

That would require delisting 3 of the current rookies:

One of our contenders for next season have been absolutely pillaged.
They’ve lost 3 players in their best 23 and have nothing really coming in the other way that will make an immediate impact.

Especially when they offered pretty much similar type deals to all of them and they still departed.

They’ve likely got ready made replacements already on their list.

With hawthorn committing a lot financially to battle, barrass and sicily, you would think other tall defenders in their ranks will struggle to get a pay rise. I would offer scrimshaw a larger contract at Collingwood if that is what it takes to convince him to request a trade.
