AFLW 2024 - Round 8 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
I know. Round two picks become the matching picks for the top academy and father son kids, which means lots of them will disappear and thus round 3 picks will become more valuable in the draft.Thing about points next year, no pick after 54 will contain any points

Spoke to Membreys mate earlier who hadn't heard anything about him coming to us.
Not saying he won't but I'm trying to find out.
It's my only tenuous link to any inside AFL info lol
We have Naicos, Mitchell, JDG, Crisp, Perryman, Pendles, Sidebottom, Allan, Lipinski that we can rotate through the centre square.Agree. None of them fill me with much excitement if we get a couple of injuries to our mids.
lots of detail there, which is great.I've already said this but which other teams thus far have gotten better this trade period?
Still a bit to play out perhaps but... at quick glance the teams improving their list (not treading water or going backwards) is us, Adelaide, Fremantle, Gold Coast, Hawthorn... and maybe to Geelong and WCE? Only two of those sides finished above us this year.
Adelaide - yes, adding Peatling, Cumming, ANB
Brisbane - no. Losing Daniher, Sharp, maybe Robertson.
Carlton - No, although adding Haynes they're losing Owies who's their third best forward
Essendon - no, likely losing Stringer and not doing much else.
Fremantle - yes, adding Bolton
Geelong - probably. Adding Smith but losing Tuohy and Hawkins. Assuming Oliver isn't happening...
Gold Coast - probably. Adding Rioli and Noble but losing Lukosius.
GWS - no, gaining Stringer but lost/losing Perryman, Cumming and Peatling
Hawthorn - yes, adding Battle and Barrass
Melbourne - no, adding Sharp... but losing ANB
North Melbourne - probably only adding Parker
Port - no, losing Houston but adding Lukosius, Richards & Atkins
Richmond - lol
Sydney - no real movement other than losing Parker?
St Kilda - probably breaking even by adding Macrae but losing Battle.
WCE - yes by adding Baker, Graham, Owies but at the same time losing 2 best 22 players in Barrass and Darling. Low base though.
Bulldogs - no. Losing Smith, Macrae and maybe Daniel but not really replacing them with much.
Still concerned we have bytel,long,sully and mcrae as our midfield depth. Need to get rid of atleast 2 of them.
Like the new avatar Jen. Can’t wait for trading to be replaced by training.Not just that. But trade period unless you are an experience mid, this time of year is not good for inside mids. Its a phase that clubs have eased off, and prefer to get more talented ones from the draft, or DFA
lots of detail there, which is great.
but, in summary, what you are saying is, Pies winning GF in 2025?
Brisbane is adding another Ashcroft though. Can playI've already said this but which other teams thus far have gotten better this trade period?

currently we have 1 senior spot available before list changes.Jen2310 with the players currently out of contract, and the current draft hand, how are we looking from list spots point of view?
Was thinking long and bytel. Hope people haven't forgotten about long's atrocious disposal .Bytel and Sully I think the 2 to go
currently we have 1 senior spot available before list changes.
Because
Perryman = Murphy
Houston = Noble
Richards = 1 vacant.
We were over the rookie list spots during the season, but then with Begg delisted, we are at capacity with 6.
We have 2 senior listed players OOC
Hine is up there with the very best in the business, trading in isn’t a guaranteed outcome either by the way.I know you prefer we be involved in the draft but I seriously can’t stress enough to you that with McGuane in next year and a bunch of gun RFAs becoming available this was 1000% the right move
There is a very very strong chance Hine would have wasted an early pick
We will overwhelm sides with our relentless running and continuous ball movement.We have Naicos, Mitchell, JDG, Crisp, Perryman, Pendles, Sidebottom, Allan, Lipinski that we can rotate through the centre square.
Houston and Jaicos can probably be added to the rotation also
Lost the trade?Hine is up there with the very best in the business, trading in isn’t a guaranteed outcome either by the way.
I get the fascination with Houston, bringing A grade talent (particularly when it suits your game style) should always be a priority. I do feel that again we undervalued out assets and lost this trade on face value, which of course can always be vindicated with a premiership. I agree we are better placed now to win it again, than what we were at the start of the trade period.
If we don’t win the premiership, then I think the trade will be looked at very differently! I’m neutral at this stage.
Is this the last one of the ****ers or is it a constant tap?Brisbane is adding another Ashcroft though. Can play
Would have to think the potential additions of membrey, hayes, tomlinson, potentially keeping dean , will push us towards trading away most of the draft picks, or at the very least bundle all of them for a single mid second round pick.currently we have 1 senior spot available before list changes.

The problem is we don't have a straight forward way to rectify the youth issue short term. I really want the team to stock up on draft picks, believe me, we need to. But I think you are underestimating how good Houston is, but more importantly how he directly impacts us specifically due to our game style. Our offense has been predicated on scoring from defensive rebound under McRae, and it fell off a fair bit this season. Dan Houston is probably the most damaging rebound 50 player in the entire league. And so while he isn't a spine player, either a KPP, or inside mid type that we need, what he's elite at is actually a fundamental requirement for driving how our system has been built to operate for 3 years.Because we gave up too much. A half back flanker is not worth that much. Especially when our spine is so poor.
You need to balance your objectives. We have one of the worst groups of young players in the league. We missed finals this year and are relying on having a dream run with injury to be competitive again
how so? By afl rules, you need to take 3 players in the draft or rookie upgrades.Would have to think the potential additions of membrey, hayes, tomlinson, potentially keeping dean , will push us towards trading away most of the draft picks, or at the very least bundle all of them for a single mid second round pick.
Moore, Maynard, Houston, Howe, Quaynor, Crisp, Perryman, Pendlebury and the Daicos bros is a best-in-league set of players to rotate through defensive posts in 2025.
