Also, what's this nonsense about 'we can't rebuild because Tassie is coming'?

The entire point is that we don't have a choice. We have to play the sh*tty hand we've dealt ourselves.

The list is Swiss cheese and you're deluding yourselves if you think we can trade in enough Free Agents to fill it when everyone can see the writing on the wall. We will not be a destination club.

Tassie just makes the rebuild take longer. It's not like they get ALL the picks. We will have to settle for drafting lower picks and spend longer in the cellar accumulating them than we would have liked.

Pick 6. Pick f$&@ing 6. (Or is it basically a 2nd rounder?)
And we give our lower 2nd to Hawks for higher 2nd(?)

Trading our 2021 1st into two picks in the mid 20s was strange enough - even w hindsight of it being pick 2.
But 2023 trade period!

Seriously, it’s my opinion so I don’t care if everyone on this board disagrees, whoever signed off on those deals can go.

Logan Mc slides to 25 and…

Just the most baffling off season I can remember.

But on a slightly less emotive and more analytical topic, WTF are we going to do?
  • delist and peel the list right back?
  • trade in what we can and try to somehow snag a flag in 2025 and then fall into the abyss?
  • trade out anyone w value? What does that do to culture and the group?
  • how do we now attract FAs and players wanting to trade in (actually, there’s always players that aren’t getting a game elsewhere that want an opportunity- even if we’ll be down for a while.

Of course we can rebuild.
But the facts are, there couldn’t be a worse time to do it.

Schultz is 26 and Ginni is 21. This is the worst mistake ever after winning a flag
I loved Ginni as much as the next guy but I also wasn’t oblivious to the deficiencies in his game which is his leg speed as a small forward player.
He has tricks and can find the goals and is very clever so he will need to ensure he doesn’t lose any of these as the years go by.

However, the reality is we didn’t let him go because of talent …sometimes a player has overstayed their welcome and has worn the people inside thin with no more chances.
That’s life not just footy.

Hopefully the penny continues to drop with him and he makes a good fist of it in his time at Hawthorn or wherever else life takes him but we need to understand and just accept he isn’t here anymore and it’s not so much to do with what he does on field .

I was against a first for schultz but I certainly don’t hold it against him. If the team was clicking this year his stats would be better. The position he plays relies a lot on what happens upfield and that has been average to shithouse this season. I would like to see him get more involved upfield but I guess there are team limits on where he roams.

Correction. I mean I was happy to pay the 2023 first but not the future first.

Considering the depth of talent in this upcoming draft, losing what looks to be at least pick 6 to 7, would hurt, but at our pick 26, we could still pick up an exciting key forward which is what we should be looking towards obtaining.
Schultz has only had the one season so far as well. Next year with another pre season learning about his teammates and the game style, he may have a very good 2025.
We get a very good player in next year's draft, with Thomas McGuane. He may even be the best player in the '25 draft. He will slot nicely into our midfield with Naicos and DeGoey.

With the lack of draft capital and Tasmania coming in, we are all in with this list.

Get Mihocek, Cox, Mitchell etc etc back for 2025 + a fit JDG, Elliott etc.

Go hard at the free agents, players available for trade and as I’ve said before would offer a Tex Walker a 2 year deal.

All in with dads army for 2025.

Might stay down the Bottom for awhile then

God forbid a minor miracle happens and we actually use pick 26 on the best key forward available at that pick, we better leave no stone unturned during the trade period and aggressively attack FA and perhaps trade in someone like Berry from the Crows and/or a Hobbs type from the Bumbers that are young and proven but have fallen down the pecking order.

The one good thing finishing this poorly does when we've thrown this years pick away is hopefully it stops us making another arrogant decision to trade out our future first again and think we can just keep topping up with SSPs for the other holes in our list.

We've picked the wrong years.

The error was trading it in a year when everyone thinks you'll be good so you get poor value for it if you have a bad year.

This year is probably the year to be trading it. Our future first will be overvalued. Because this year has been a train wreck. we will bounce next year but teams will be valuing it as a high pick.

Wright and Hine must go! Need to make tough calls on JDG and if Bobby wants to go home, let him go and let’s get that pick back and start again. Have two firsts this year, another next with our own lowly finish…then we can have a good crack at it, provided we get the picks right!
Agree with Hine out, Wright if committed to Pies needs to step away from list management involvement.
Throw the cheque book at the best available recruiters who might be available.

Much like the mid 2000s we’ve recruited too many of the same type of player, slower inside or pressure players.

Since the 2020 draft we’ve kept doubling down, Macrae, Lipinski, Mitchell, Sullivan, Schultz, Bytel, Long, Carmichael, DeMattia, Ryan, Poulter, Allan, Draper, Murley… Obviously not all the exact same role, but none are overly quick.

Mitchell was a hit last year, and Lipinski has had moments, but not many others have came through albeit it’s still early for some.

We’re screaming out for some pace and run especially with McRae’s preferred style.

Or adding a caveat that it can't be a top 10 pick and converts to 2 x 2nds or rolls over again.

There’s also a similar theme amongst all
Them. None are high draft picks

Which playing style is that? Last years or this years? Feels polar opposites.

Not sure F/S rule changes but if McGuane keeps tracking upward scale will we need our first round or look to trade it anyhow for points?

The recent ones in the draft since the new footy department arrived have all been quick:

Allan, HDM, TJ, Ryan, Marley, Harrison.

I don't think we'll get many if any long term players out of it though

The SSP guys - a bit odd to add Sullivan, Long, Bytel when we already had Mitchell, Pendles, Sidey, Macrae and Lippa.
