Package him in a salary dump with Bailey SmithIf we cant land Davies I’d take him on the cheap. An upgrade on what we have.
Don’t know much about him, but from what I have seen he’s got a bit going for him if we chose to bring him in.Anyone know anything about Riley Bice, could he be a good noble replacement? Apparently killed it for Werribee this year
Doubt it. More likely he’ll play out the college season and then get an indication of his likelihood to be drafted. If it’s slim to none he’ll probably be headed back to Aus straight away. The draft is next June. He will be waiting at least til then.
There are objective or near objective measures. Running power, tackling, pressure efforts, etc. We've clearly been using these heavily (others might be clean handling, kicking errors, marking contests halved...). As a first level, you rank those against the pillars of your game plan. The most important become near essential and only overidden by extreme talent or desperate need. After that it gets more subjective.I agree. We've just got to try to improve at evaluating trades, drafting, salary cap. But we can't expect accuracy. Not saying there's issues but all clubs need to. The reality though is footy metrics aren't accurate enough yet,so vibe might still be the most accurate way of predicting and valuing. They'll gradually be getting better at judging which metrics matter, but it's not long ago that what Grundy offered was considered invaluable, but there's more of a scoring focus to metrics now and all those hitouts and sloppy clearances he gets have been devalued.
And in trades, as supporters we've got to stop valuing trades against previous trades and prices had, as the market will be continuing changing as they all get better at analysing value.
Like Ash Johnson, Charlie Dean, John Noble, Josh Carmichael, and Brody Mihocek you mean?
I think Cat's have a competitive advantage in recruiting and/or development over the entire league. Like I've said I don't know why they have it outside of the Geelong network and country Vic advantage.
In terms of Dekka, he's been head of recruiting whilst we've recruited two very different premiership teams. That alone suggests he's run an effective team. But in such a competitive industry with a quick staff turnover to have survived so many changes in our hierarchy and football department speaks a lot about how respected he is by footy department specialists.
And whilst I think the Cats have had a more effective recruitment team, I don't subscribe to the theory that you're either the very best or a dud. Gary Albert or a spud. We've also had an effective recruiting team and have consistently overachieved within the league during Dekkas time, which is difficult to do consistently as you get a draft handicap the more successful you are.
Exactly what our midfield needs, less leg speed.Wouldn't mind a crack at Jack Macrae who was an elite midfielder until Bulldogs acquired Treloar. Plays very similar to Treloar costs half the price can get a clearance. Starting as sub constantly would be a walk up start in our midfield.
It's not possible to match the Swans with the Academy advantage. Cats similarly have some natural advantages. We've objectively performed very well with our recruiting and development, that's despite some missteps via trade and salary cap.Cats have great culture, which Swans can match. Pies are not too far behind. Notice how clean cut most Cats and Swans players are. Pies have mostly clean cut players but a few are rebel-like personalities like De Goey, McCreery with all their tattoos and off field interests. But Pies are up there with culture.
With that said, Pies need to join Cats and Swans at their tier. Would mean finals appearance at 80% rate
I don’t think our key backs or even our key forwards are our biggest weakness, assuming we have them fit, it’s the age and quality through our midfield. If we're fair dinkum about a flag tilt next year we can't rely on a Dean or Frampton.
I know we won't find an elite Weitering, Andrews, Taylor, Stewart, etc type, but it's already frustrating me to no end that it looks like Nick Haynes is going to walk to Carlton as a UFA.
They also have a genuine home ground advantage, there is benefit not being Collingwood as well. Stengel gets done for ODing the media drop it. If it was a Collingwood player we’d be screwed.well as president of the derek hine fanclub, how do you explain geelong's competitive advantage?
Dogs want a 1st rounder in this draft. Cats will offer their current 1st and maybe their F1. It'll get done. Maybe their current 1st and two seconds.
He is locked into Geelong.

Don't mind Macrae. He would be an upgrade on Sullivan and Long in the midfield. So tick.In terms of recruits for the midfield, I would be going for Macrae either as a salary cap dump with a second rounder coming out way or if the Bulldogs take on his salary then maybe we give them a third rounder in return. He clearly is in Bevos bad books - has to leave.
With Barass and Battle nominating the hawks I’d be seeing if we can shake on if their existing defenders out. I see the hawks have made reassurances to Frost. If we're fair dinkum about a flag tilt next year we can't rely on a Dean or Frampton.

Yes agreed. Hence I rank Pies as just behind those two teams in regards to franchise development. Then behind Pies would be daylight then comes Port Adelaide, Dogs, Hawks. It's not possible to match the Swans with the Academy advantage. Cats similarly have some natural advantages. We've objectively performed very well with our recruiting and development, that's despite some missteps via trade and salary cap.
The beauty in what Hawthorn has done and is doing is that there is no one to shake loose. They’ll move on from Frost next year, but that’s because he’s a limited player and being upgraded in a big way by the other two. It’s much the same rationale we’d be using with Keane over Frampton. The key difference is in the relative cap situations with Hawthorn’s close to league best. With Barass and Battle nominating the hawks I’d be seeing if we can shake on if their existing defenders out. I see the hawks have made reassurances to Frost.
Agree w nearly all your pointsI don’t think our key backs or even our key forwards are our biggest weakness, assuming we have them fit, it’s the age and quality through our midfield.

But you would be stuck with him for a few years on big coin. So I'm not sold on him.
Positives
Has got big possession numbers at one stage he had the most posessions in a season. (at least he use to before he lost his spot)
Big body
Bit outside but can win contested ball as well. Similar to Pendlebury
Negatives
30 years old
Big contract
3 years to go??
His numbers keep going down year after year so maybe they will continue to do so.
If we could reduce his pay Grundy style to 400K a year then I would be on board. But there are no guarantees that his 30 year old body holds up and if we had to pay his big contract it would not be worth it in my eyes. Unless we got the Dogs 1st rounder.
I would prefer we try and pay off Grundys contract instead.
Howdy Tom congrats on a 12 year career at the top level! Here’s my idea:
1- Trade Noble and 3rd round for Davies and 20
2- Trade Richards for future 2nd and Clurey
3- Trade 4th round for Stringer
4- Trade future 1st for 1st this year
End up with Stringer, Davies and Clurey for now but look after the future with 1st round pick, pick 20 and pick 32 this year and 2x 2nd round for next year (McGuane).
Stringer would combine well with de Goey- sharing mid/fwd.
Clurey is 30 but gives time to develop younger talls and could play the Murphy role well.
Davies gives inside mid and is young.
No one is entertaining any of those trades. Here’s my idea:

The bloke has said he's staying at Port yet people are still throwing up make believe trades.
