GWS want the best trade return and Collingwood present as the club who has the most to offer in terms of picks from the suitors.

Beams is the benchmark and our 1st and 2nd picks are pretty close to the mark imv.

Exactly, which is why I am questioning those who don't put our first round pick as part of the package for GWS... Witts and our second round pick is an easy one to beat by other clubs.

So first two picks PLUS Witts for Treloar? That's too much to pay imo.

GWS to get our first 2 picks for Treloar.

Witts as part of a trade with a 2nd rd to get Carlisle.

Both those are close to the end position with some trade/player sweeteners.

Carlisle forward or back?

Carlisle wants to play back, probably wouldn't go to a club who see him as a forward or swing man.
He's basically the Keeffe replacement for those 200cm monster forwards, ironically Keeffe was being trialled in the forward line pre season

They have decent young rucks who will eventually take Mumfords spot. Rory Lobb, Andrew Phillips and Tom Downie.
If anything they need KPD's. After Patfull and Davis went down against us, they've basically had to play inexperienced players. Frost, brown, reid(unlikely) any of them with our first pick should be enough.

Beams was in the best 10 of the competition, in terms of midfielders and age.

Treloar is probably top 30, but has significant potential. So first round pick and player

What I'm curious to know is the fate of Keeffe and Thomas.

Could we delist them in October and then pick them up again/upgrade them with late picks. Maybe we can package one or two up in a trade with Brisbane as part of some Aish deal.
Delisted and chance at a rookie pick in the draft at best, IMO. The sit the year out and get paid, basically so we have 1st choice on them still in 2017.
Let's not forget - GWS aren't solving for how to get enough points to get their academy players, they are solving for how to get the most value from the Treloar trade. Those two things are not necessarily linked. They won't give Treloar away just because they get enough to bring on their academy players....

No doubt. They'll ask for our 1st round picks in 2015 & 2016, IMO. It's a matter of the most we're prepared to give up and the least GWS are prepared to accept. (Captain obvious stuff, I realise, now that I've typed it). I was merely looking from a GWS perspective, in so much as, they'll only really want draft picks to be used on academy players, not player swaps. In addition, they have reportedly got more players next year (reportedly possible 4 top 20 talents) that they'll need picks for and this spreads their talent over a few years, so a pick next year could be quite appealing to them.

I heard Buckley speak of this the other day. Basically they will be delisted and the possibility is there of taking them in the rookie draft. Other clubs may also be able to do the same, or even take them in the ND. Either way, they will have to sit out next year. Sounded to me like the club intends to rookie them if thats what the players in fact want.

Lobb is a plodder and the other 2 are unknowns, I could see them wanting Witts to groom as a Mumford successor.. but I think they can't pay him more than 350K if they want academy kids

Only because GWS can't take players, doesn't mean we won't trade Witts to someone else for one of the picks to satisfy GWS

"but Witts would not be part of that deal despite speculation"
I thought it was only Swans who can't trade for players whose salary is over xxx (somewhere around 300k)

Yeah I heard that as well. But I was wondering if there was some wriggle room there. Or maybe we decide to package one/both up with say Seedsman to get Aish.

2x first round picks would make Treloar more expensive than Beams from a tad perspective. Especially after you factor in the contract status for each.

First round pick + player and then maybe a 2nd round pick as well.

I suppose we could, but the club taking them on would have to be doing so on the understanding that they have to sit a year out. Couldn't see that happening

This is true, which is why you'd throw in a Seedsman for now and maybe a Keeffe for 2017. It's just general ruminating, however it might be something to tip a deal over.

What are the odds of Carlisle sitting out like Keeffe and Thomas

100% this. Very few players have demanded two first round picks, Chris Judd did not even requirefirst rounders.

Beams was a current top 15 and contracted.
Treloar would be a top 25 and uncontracted. No way we would give up two first rounders. I love treloar, outside of Ollie wines he's my favourite young mid in the comp, I'd be disappointed if we used two first rounders on him however.
