One out of left field, apparently there's talk that Stevie J might be at the Pies next year, in an assistant coaching role which may also include a rookie listed spot, similar to the Ben Hudson deal.

Not totally against the idea.
As long as it is a rookie spot and we're not giving up anything because as a player he's cooked.

As for him being a coach, everyone always talks about his potential to become one so I'd love to have him in that role

People say he has an amazing football brain, and no doubt he was a force to be reckoned with at times, but every time I see him on the football field now he's doing something stupider than the last. No-look handballs to the opposition for a high-risk, low-reward outcome and so forth.

I'm pretty sure I just heard Jon Ralph in the background saying he thinks Steve Johnson might head to Collingwood under a Ben Hudson like arrangement with him playing occasionally and staying on as an assistant coach.

I still maintain that Treloar/Aish/Dangerfield/Carlisle et al are all headed to Hawthorn allowing us to swoop under everyone's guard and snaring David Ellard and Dylan Addison. Been calling it all year. Maybe Cam Pederson too (Leigh Brown role)
You taking the pi$$? Hawks can't afford that.

Wow, that is super random!

You gotta be kinding you think thats a good idea
The bloke has lost all his pace and still does some stupid things with the ball
Were struggling to fit all the kids into the best 22, aka Marsh who cant get a game and u wanna fill up a spot on the list with a veteran list clogger

A rookie spot in a shallow draft year is hardly 'list clogging'.

Yeah but for a guy who is absolutely cooked and just cant admit it, is it really worth it.
If he can help out as a coach and a break in emergency type player in the Hudson mould? 100% worth it.

Still better than clogging the list with keeffe and Thomas who we know can't play.

Hudson played 7 games in his first year with us then didn't play a game at all in his second season.

Stevie J is highly rated as a coach so if that's what it took (rookie listing him) to improve our struggling coaching staff then I'd do it tomorrow.

Plus he'd help the VFL side win games.

Yeah i agree, get rid of both of them as well, but cmon Stevie has looked so ordinary this year don't think he would add any value at all the field for collingwood. We ain't in a rebuild needing a bit of experience, we need players in their prime eg. danger, treloar who will push us to top 4 and grand finals

Dont think its worth it thats all
Collingwood is just trying to make up for not trading for him 10 years ago when he didnt pass a medical at the pies.

stevie j would be a great get on the rookie list and player coach helping the young kids grow.
carlie down back replace frost, that would free up reid when fit to go forward. also I like motlop at the feet of cloke no need for blair.

Frost is a gun no need for carlisle
Defiently agree with motlop i would be doing anything to get him at the pies. An absolute gun

The "talk" was an idea floated by John Ralph
He was at pains to say there was nothing official in at

Wow, you're really missing the point aren't you? You wouldn't pick up Stevie J for on field value. You pick him up for his coaching/leadership he can impart on the younger players, help develop kids in the two's, and hopefully add some value to the VFL side. Worst case scenario is he needs to be upgraded due to an LTI.
If he shows enough promise as a coach you then give him a full time gig as an assistant.

Forget thinking about him as a player, he would be first and foremost a coach, who could pull on the boots at a pinch. I'm not even sure why you'd talk about Treloar/Danger etc, that's a completely different discussion.

I understand that, but why would Geelong not keep him as an assistant then.
U think he would go to the pies instead of the cats just for one year as a rookie?
Plus ruin his legend status he defiently will have at the cats

I don't know whether he would or not, that's not really the point of what we're discussing.
The point is that he would add significant value to the club without impacting on our ability to recruit players in their prime. If he was keen on the idea the club would be mad not to do it.

Yeah thats true, but i think he knows hes times up.
Would make a good assistant i reckon though

Aish has been horrible this year, what hes been averaging under 10 disposals easily.
Treloar on the other hand is averaging 27 disposals and sneaks a couple of goals in, he is B grade already, A grade from next year on.

Haha this thread is a classic. Its basically choose a player to talk about for a day then change it the next day
Sunday - Trealor
Monday - Aish
Tuesday - Carlisle
Wednesday - Stevie j
