From reading their board they seem quite happy with the up and coming young ruck they have on their books. I think the club itself was interested in Witts but at this point he's made it clear he wants to go to GC and the club is accommodating his request.
Archie Smith I guess, interesting. He was pretty good in the limited opportunities I saw of him last season.

Interesting to see how it all pans out, still can't see us getting it done.

Unfortunately for Sack his Gold don't glitter no more ..
With the Berg and Ramsay coming back into the side is a precedence why Marsh is most likely leaving and that I suspect is the personal reasons is why he is heading back home
I

Marsh has family issues mate.

Our defenders stocks are low as it is. This is not why he would choose to leave now if it was for opportunity reasons as you're suggesting. Marsh showed more than enough last season to suggest he would figure in our best 22 this season.

Both those guys you mentioned can not be expected to play out the entire season and the possibility of another setback for either is increased compared to the fully seasoned players.

Is this Rocky rumour just more BS from Damo or is there anything to it?

Quality player, but seems like an absolute d*ckhead.

Should our priority be him, or getting a pick in the top 15 to draft Logue?

Our priority should be a KPD or general defender but tbh it would be really difficult to pass on a player like Rocky a) if he nominates us and b) if he comes under priced.

I wonder if negotiations started off like ...

Hine: "We will take Rocky, I'll give you Frost."
Brisbane: "No."

Hine: "Ok ok ok, just kidding. How about we give you Greenwood..."
Brisbane: "Well that's a good starting..."
Hine: "And you pay for him to play with us."
Brisbane: "No."

So I suspect the next level will be Hine offering Greenwood and throwing in a couple of 2016 left over Collingwood member scarfs to sweeten the pot a little.
I heard he offered some Star Athletic apparel at ridiculously low run-out prices.

On Mitch Brown. We need to ask ourselves if we would be even remotely interested if his brother didn't play for us. I suspect the answer is no and if it is, the family connection should be irrelevant.

I don't want him, as I don't think he's any good. I'd more happily use our last pick on the best state league full back in the country (must come with reasonable kicking skills) and just put him in.

We can focus on a young kpp with a higher pick.

Surely Mitch Brown is a cert to come to us under FA? He's limited but cheap in terms of picks (none) and $$$. It would probably ensure that Nate re-signs, too. I have a lot more confidence in Mitch Brown than in Keeffe - who hasn't played footy at any level for two years - and had some big deficiencies before that. The game has changed and sped-up so much in the past two years and I just can't see Keeffe slotting in as quickly/easily as many here seem to hope.

The big concern though is the loss of pace and rebound from our backline. For all their flaws, Marsh, Frost and Williams were our three fastest defenders and Williams & Marsh gave us lots of run-and-carry out of defence. Imagine if injuries force us to play all of N.Brown, M.Brown, Keeffe and Langdon in the same team! It would be the slowest, worst-kicking defence in the history of AFL!

We all need to pray that we get full seasons out of Reid, Howe, Scharenberg, Ramsay, Maynard and.......can't believe I'm saying it.....Sinclair.

I also believe that Crisp will be re-trained as a half-back-flanker in the off-season. He's big enough, defensively-minded, fast and a long kick.

Re the continued rumors re Rockliff I think we can use the Frost trade as an insight.

In reality Frost should be an easy deal to execute, if it drags on then it probably means we are waiting to see what happens re Rockliff and use him as part of that deal. If Frost goes through then you can probably rule it out.

I'm all for this aggressive movement. I understand the list chemistry, but this could be one that the club may be ahead of the curve, this is the way movement is going, this year is nothing compared to next and the year after. Anyone is now game, contracted or not clubs will target them so all clubs are going to need to find a way to deal with it and change its internal environment to best deal with it.

If we see an opportunity to get someone of the calibre of rockliff and Greenwood is a chance to help, cya later Levi if you ask me. Let's face it, they're basically the same player, but one is three times as good.

What a class act we are. Get a guy to leave his club on a 4 year deal & then try to offload him to someone else half way through it.
An interstate club that is currently sitting on the bottom of the pile as well. Nice Pies, that should help bring more willing players to the club for sure..
Not everything on the internet is true, not everything not true.
This time of year needs a steady state of mind, I think....

Funny, the one thing I mentioned before trades started was stability and low turnover, that is the last time I will waste a wish.

If we do have a high turnover (and it seems more than likely), this will really test the coaching group.

There's been some good discussion on this, it is worrying and would do no good for a sporting team, business institution or whatever. No good at all!

I don't see the problem with it.

Greenwood left the Roo's coz there was a better offer on the table: more $ and a more fixed spot in the 22.
We are now attempting to upgrade on him, because we have a better offer on the table (well not yet): Rockliff.
This is the business of the sport and each party is always just looking out for its own interests - it happens at every single club in the AFL (if not professional sports worldwide), and we would be negligent if we didn't approach things this way.
---

As for the actual Rockliff trade.
I am very happy for that to be our starting offer.
Rockliff is clearly a luxury. He is an improvement on our current list, but is not filling any gap that we have. (when there are a few areas of great need - especially now that we are losing Marsh, along with Frost and possibly Brown).
Swapping out Greenwood makes immediate room for Rockliff from a list management decision.

He is also a guy who, presumably, the Lions are pretty keen to get rid of for team morale reasons - and as such, we are banking on them accepting unders. (Very similar to us getting rid of Heater - and hopefully with the same consequences - the guy keeps playing great footy, but also matures a hell of a lot)

I would continue to play hardball on this trade (say Frost+Greenwood), because I don't think we are missing out that much if it doesn't go through.

Also seemed interesting that when Hine was last asked about Rockliff, he didn't categorically say he wouldn't be coming to us, just that it was "unlikely."

There have been plenty of other clubs saying categorically that he will not be going to them.

I wonder where the trade period would be at if it was only a week.

I think we are more of a chance to get Rockliff than a top 15 pick to be honest.

Let's say Rockliff goes to WC, Carlton or Adelaide.

Would Brisbane entertain Greenwood and 28 for Pick 16..?

Remembering that we are at the whim of Levi in any trade that he is thrown up... 2 years left on his contract and all.

Agree, as by all reports the Brions want him gone so he will go at a discount, just a matter of how big that discount is.

They key for us is that no other club come forward as we will only take him for unders.

Can't see them trading any first round picks, seems like they have made the decision to clear the decks and go for youth via the draft.

Yes, we'll have to pay a high price to get our hands on pick 16 and then there's no certainty that whoever we draft will be a gun. It could turn out to be another Freeman or Ben Kennedy. By contrast, in the Rockliff fire-sale, we are a chance to get a proven star at a heavily discounted price.

I doubt the club would throw up Levi's name without him being consulted first. He'd be well aware that his senior opportunities would be limited next year if Rockliff came in and Mayne was taking up the defensive forward role.

There's a double family connection with his wife now playing for a Netball team.
That was when Gubby was rumoured to be in Mitch Brown's ear.
