For those complaining about our draft position....

Puts it in to perspective really. People said we sold the farm last year for Treloar, Aish and Howe, but at the end of the day we still managed to retain our second rounder and a few more in the 3rd/4th round.

Hawks have entirely traded themselves out of a very strong draft and the first round of next years KPP draft for Mitchell, Vickery (lol) and O'Meara, whilst also dumping their two best players in the process.

If Mitchell and JOM perform as well as Mitchell and Lewis did this year, which is unlikely given JOM's time out of the game, their net gain for all that will be Vickery.

That's an awful risk to take to try and extend a premiership window that most believe is pretty firmly closed...

Horrible trade period for us.

We give away players for free and pay through the nose for everyone we get.
We traded overs for 1 player and the consensus on that before trade period was a second Rd pick nothing changed... If gws was happy for 77 for Stewart, essendon can have him as he was not rated at all...

Sad thing is pretty much every other team has something good to talk about. Our trade period was just so meh.

I'm really happy.

We've improved our best 22 and moved on the guys who can't use the footy.

In:
Daniel Wells - Gun
Dunn - upgrade on Brown or Frost
WHE - blue sky, could be anything
Mayne - will be best 22 and make us a better team.

Out:
Williams: I like him, but it's clear that these days clubs don't want personalities like him on their list
Cloke: I think he'll go alright at the Dogs, but his days were up with us
Frost + Brown: Belong in a bygone era
Toovey: Loved him, but his time was up
Witts: Too slow and lacking in intensity
Our worst users of the footy.

Overall that was a complete letdown. There actually wasn't a single trade where I can reflect on us walking away with a good outcome. All our deals had a kicker.

Wells good player, but the contract a bit of a worry with his injury history.
Mayne an ok role player that we gave a bonkers deal to.
WHE yes he has talent, but limited production 5 years in.
Dunn just a goer who offers much the same as Brown.

No move on a KPF, no move to upgrade selections and no real clarity from Hine when interviewed as he was leaving. Given where we currently sit the person I feel most for is Buckley because he needed a sideways trade period like a hole in the head.

I eagerly await the usual suspects coming in to spin the positives. It should provide some brevity at least :)
Levity?

OUT: Swan (v.sadly) Toovey Macaffer Brown Witts Frost Williams Gault Goodyear Marsh(?)
IN: Wells Mayne WHE Dunn Daicos Brown & draft punts
RETURNING FROM INJURY: Scharenberg Elliott Ramsay Langdon

CONCLUSION: 2017 playing stocks vastly improved on 2016

Elliott is never coming back, at least not the Elliott we remember. He is essentially cooked unfortunately. Scharenberg may have lost the chance to ever reach his potential too.

Ummmmm they got OMeara and Mitchell I would take that.
Even if it meant giving up your top 2 players in the process for nothing in addition to the trade cost?

Because Cloke and Frost and Brown and Witts get so many possessions?
Because the players we brought it in will struggle to get the ball.

lol, weird OP

My post?

Really? They traded out of the 2017 draft (and the first round next year) for a player that hasn't got on the park in two years and apparently has long term concerns on his knees, and another decent midfielder, but one who wouldn't be in the top 20 in the game. Oh and they gained Vickery, yipeee!

Not to mention losing two players that finished 1 and 2 in their B & F.

seriously

brown
frost
williams
brown
witts
cloke

all rubbish.. so we got rubbish in return

fair trade period id say

wells mayne and dunn.. we didn't give away anything as far as draft selections or players go.

the only trade you can argue for or agst is hoskin-elliot..

so what the hell is the bickering about?

its a trade period where in effect we didn't do anything.

what I'm rapped about is we dumped our crap onto other clubs and made em their problem.

3 players in wells dunn and mayne.. ony 3 spots of speculative mature age players as opposed to 10 mature age crap weve kept on our list for far too long add witts williams and frost in that 10 as well. and gault.. see ya later!

overall happy!!!

the list is where it should be.. we are just gunning for strong.. not avg any longer.. well done gubbs.. brave and very bright.
