I am not interested in the politics of a Rep or a Mon only the way she conducted herself over her 96 yr journey and I would say that has been exemplary and beyond reproach and so worthy of respect.I myself only find fault with her judgement on Andrew but he was apparently her favourite and affected her viewpoint and if that is her only lapse in 70 yrs service then no one should be dancing on grave or thinking that ill of her.

Go the Pies I only hope this week is better than last week on the result front and for me personally as I was rushed to hospital last saturday at 1.30pm and missed the match and have not felt the need to relive it but GO THE PIES this week and I will def be watching this week.

Hope you're 100% now mate.

I am thanks mate,I woke up last saturday morning at 6.40 am and the whole world was spinning I had a severe attack of Vertigo and was S------ myself as I did not know what was going on but they let me out on sunday and all,s well.

Ps I have never had one before and it was bloody awful I could not stand up and was retching all the time. thanks for your concern mate.

Totally beside the point.

She is a member of an elitist institution that contributes nothing tangible to society.

Whether she is better or worse than others is utterly irrelevant.
I don't think the Tudors are given enough credit for having peacefully relinquished political power, allowing democracy to flourish. And whilst I agree that their ceremonial role is a ridiculous, her dedication and sacrifice for it was pretty awesome.

I have a lot of experience (15 plus years) with vertigo so I'm accutely aware of what a hellish experience it is. I'm glad you're feeling better.

While I'd very much prefer to be a member of a Royal family than live in abject poverty I'd still prefer to be part of the majority that is neither of those two groups and live my life free from endless scrutiny and invasion of privacy.

In reality the Queen and her family are still just people and while they might be more famous and wealthy than most I sense people would be shocked that away from public view their family unit is filled with the same light and shade us our own, sometimes flawed, sometimes selfish, sometimes capable of much love and compassion.

For her family today her loss will be grieved every much we would do our own mother or grandmother and that in itself is enough reason to show a little respect.

While I'm no monarchist I'm also not so hate filled I have anything against a group of people who find themselves in a privileged but totally bizarre situation based on a birth right. While the presence of the Queen wasn't of major significance in my life, she has still been a presence throughout it and when you've reached an age your own grandmothers have long since gone she served as a reminder of them. In a strange way that provided a little comfort if only for the hope your own mother can live such a long and healthy life.

As for the talk that she and the Royal family have given nothing back for the privilege afforded to them or are a leech on the English taxpayer I can't agree.

The English Royal family are synonymous with how the the wider world views the United Kingdom, their continued status when other European monarchies have faded from view would generate vast tourism dollars every year as people flock to landmarks where they can see a glimpse of all the history, pomp and ceremony attached to the Royals. Then of course there would be the countless memorabilia sold (most unofficial) each year that would generate extra income for a range of retailers big and small. Personally I feel they more than pay their way.

As for not giving back that doesn't seem fair or remotely correct.

While I'm clearly no expert on these matters did she not give back when traveling to many Commonwealth countries which in the days before airliners would have been long journeys by cruise ship, attending God only knows how many official engagements across the decades, meeting heads of state, bestowing the Royal title to important institutions like hospitals or using her status to provide a comforting voice in difficult times, push a charitable cause or voice her concerns privately to people in power.

The fact that she continued to do many of those things well in to her 90's and with failing health (hell she only met with the new British PM a couple of days ago) shows very much how seriously she viewed service to country.

May she rest in peace.

I've said it a number of times but it seems I must repeat it yet again.

None of this is personal towards Elizabeth or any member of the monarchy.

It's the institution and how it supports the still prevalent (if in the cupboard) conservative class discrimination that I disagree with.

Australians have historically been supporters of the monarchy but my ancestry is Scots so I know their sins as do the Irish.

The monarchy is a giant leech that provides nothing of genuine value to anyone outside it and the sooner it passes away the better.

They’ll be asking a Kings ransom for your quarters.

Rumors of an overheated property market in Noosa are greatly exaggerated.

I've worked hard and saved for 35 years.

I could easily afford a deposit for a 1 bedroon apartment near Hastings st. :)

Or my Scots ancestors - they still haven't forgotten or forgiven Longshanks.

Britain rode to world prominence on the backs of the working class and especially the Irish and Scots.

As a working class Englishman I can definitely assure you that it was not only the working class Scot,s and Irish but also the Welsh and us and it was done by upper class English,Irish,Scot,s and Welshmen, I just do not see the point of disrespecting her personally.

And being from QLD we reached the 21 century when we got rid of Joh.

FFS how many times must I repeat it .. .. ..???

Check back on my every post in this thread.

None of this is directed personally at Elizabeth.

<<<< wanders off muttering about how hard it is to get people to read posts properly . . . .

No, it doesn’t. It says more about our views on an outdated and bloated institution which should have nothing to do with this country.

Think it’s only fair that an alternative view be expressed. Nothing personal against the woman.

P.S. I’ve already had an argument with my sister about this, and she just hung up on me.

P.P.S. Would love to ask my Irish ancestors about the British monarchy. They’d be doing an Irish jig this morning.
Great day for the Patriarchists. Has been a tough 70-odd years, but it feels good to have a privileged white male back in the top job.
