Cameron is out of form at the moment. At his best, he is the strongest pack mark in the side.

Hmmm, do you really think that?

Personally, I don’t think Cameron is any better a contested mark than Checkers, Moore, McStay or, quite frankly, Cox. Cameron IS much better at dropping back to take pressure-relieving marks in defence. There’s no doubt about that. But I rate them equally as tap ruckmen and Cox creates so many more scoring opportunities for himself and others and injects energy and swagger that the crowd thrives on. And he scares the sh1t out of opposition defenders.

Oh well, I’ve lost this one. Here’s hoping Cameron plays a blinder. The team needs everyone to fire if we are to beat the Lions.

I came on here expecting to find the team announced and was disappointed that fellow posters couldn't get their shit together to post it. Then I realised today is Wednesday not Thursday, and I forgave you all for your inaction. Just don't fail me tomorrow, please.

Goodluck to JR on Friday night. I'm really happy to see him been given an opportunity and look forward to what he brings to the table in senior footy, particularly his ability to run and carry to break the lines.
Hopefully he can be our late season x factor inclusion going into finals.....👏👏

Cox averages 3.9, DC 3.2. Not sure stats justify the perception Cameron is a better pack mark.

Pack mark as distinct from contested mark. There’s no stat for that, but there is definitely a difference.
He also holds his ground better at throw ins than Cox, despite not having a great leap.

You would think that. With Nick and JDG out there isn’t the option of putting a mid back so it was either Howe goes back or bring in a new 7th defender. I like the idea of starting Howe forward. Suppose the question remains even more so without Darcy Moore is what do we do with the 2nd ruck.

Frampton should just follow Daniher into the ruck. It's the most obvious move.

You might be a day ahead because of the Matildas hype.

Geezus. Our three best players out, and Bobby, after he played arguably, his best game. And after he and Ginni put on some sort of show. Was really looking forward to the encore.

Good luck to young Ryan. Hope he gets a decent haircut before the game, but that’s just a whine on my part.

Feeling a bit flat now about our prospects for tomorrow night. We’re good but not so good as to overcome the loss of so much talent.☹️

Wade has his work cut out for September.

I can't see us winning tomorrow night either.

Callum Brown played 70 games for us
Tom Phillips couldn't be dropped if you paid Bucks

Gunston basically dropped himself earlier in the year

If you think Gunston is in their Top 10-15 players then...I dunno what to say. He's the very definition of a fringe player in that team. They have a pretty decent list. If Gunston was one of their best, I'd be genuinely concerned for them
Tom Phillips came 6th in our B&F. Callum Brown played in shit teams. Not sure what your point is, especially given I never said that Gunston was top 10-15 on their list. But he's been a fixture of their side nonetheless

Problem at present is that Cameron looks unlikely to take a mark, even simple ones that don't require much more than clutching the ball with a pair of outstretched hands, the sort of mark the average bloke would swallow 8 times out of 10 in a kick to kick session with a mate. Otherwise I agree with you that Cameron is physically a more solid contributor than Cox. His loss of form has occurred 2 years running, and the contrast between his best and worst is striking. But he gets the nod over Cox because he stands his ground. If he could regain his marking and goal kicking powers he would actually be a very useful player.

Come 7.50pm Friday night I'll be hoping to win as much as anyone but a loss wouldn't be the end of the world if it means not taking added risk with players like De Goey and Hill.

This is the benefit of having top 2 all but assured so we may as well take the opportunity to use it.

On the flip side a victory without the players a lot would consider our top 3 for best and most important would be huge.

To be honest should we and Melbourne both lose with Port winning this weekend I don't see a lot of motivation to take any heightened risks with selection again next week either given the prize for winning is a "home" final against the Dees or heaven forbid Carlton.

Fly has been super consistent with debutants since he took over.
1. They start.
2. They play more than 1 game.

So i'm expecting Ryan to play vs dons as well (unless he has an all time first game mare!)

Excited to see what we do this week tbh.
Feel like its a pre-season game, such is my low care factor on a win.

Just want no injuries and to see the method we go with.
Learnt enough from last weeks game to know where we sit.

I think the club will see this as a challenge as opposed to the doom and gloom on here!

Good post.

The players are competitive athletes, each and everyone of them. They hate losing and don't want to get rolled in front of 50K fans.

The coaches have a job of creating and maintaining a winning culture. They would not go into a game with an attitude of "this one doesn't matter". They know that if we cop a hiding that's bad for both, the club and players.

Despite the big outs there are some pretty handy players who will be wearing a Collingwood jumper on Friday. I'm excited to see what they can produce.

It would just go against everything 'winning culture' that Fly has tried very hard to build and made much of a point about. He was furious enough when the players sat on the ground after losing a final last year.

So you can absolutely guarantee they'll be all in on setting our sights on trying to get the win this week, regardless of any of the ladder predictor talk. It's utter fantasy stuff, and will never happen under this coach thankfully.

I still expect a very competitive effort this close to finals.

Whoever gets picked will be going full bore.

There are a small number of available spots in a very successful team about to play big finals.

If someone like Ryan takes his chances this week & next, he might well stay in.
