50k capacity. That's it in a nutshell. There's not the atmosphere we're used to. We are averaging 71k crowds at the G.
Marvel just can't compete and can't give that same atmosphere, we G loving pies fans are used to.
Of course the MCG is better. But we have to have some games at Docklands. A sold out covered stadium on a Friday night in winter is not a bad option.

And we didn't have a ruck (Cameron, Cox and Begg all injured). We rucked McStay and he got slaughtered - I thought we did well to get as close as we did. Should be a lot different this time around.

Without delving into actual games against Brisbane, I feel like a single-quarter lapse has cost us in both of our last two losses against them. Other than that, scoring has been quite close.

I'm still hanging my hat on the fact that we were diabolical in 2021 and it still took an after-siren goal for them to beat us at Marvel. They started the year poorly but at the end of the day we finished the season 17th and Brisbane finished 4th and went out in straight sets. They smashed us later in the year at the Gabba but we'll let that one slip!

Edit: 2022 and 2023 games pretty similar in the fact that Brisbane dominated the second quarter. Something to watch on Friday night.

Crispy said on SEN on Saturday that Frampton was in to play ruck/forward until Moore went off. So I wonder if we go with the same structure and play Cox ruck/forward this week.

Once Moore is back, I'd like it to be Moore+Frampton+Murphy back, with Howe forward and McStay doing the ruck chop out
except he lined up in defence before Moore went off with Howe forward from the first bounce, his comments don’t make sense.

Agree with the latter comment, I think this is likely our best set up.

I don't think he did. Frampton started on the bench and came on as ruck and then Darcy strained his hammy. The plan may very well have been to chop out ruck and the three tall forwards we went with - if they wanted the three talls up forwards for all of the game to stop the Cats intercepting.

McStay in the ruck is a terrifying prospect in the finals. He didn't get near the ball when competing at centre bounces and actually did better when simply not contesting the tap and acting like a fourth mid. But I keep warning Fly- you are one turned ankle from disaster if you enter the finals with one ruckman. It is madness.

I watched a number of games on the weekend and saw Melbourne, Carlton, Hawthorn, Adelaide and Lions mids repeatedly get clean, damaging exits from the centre bounce with a quick hand pass to a teammate who was streaming toward goal at top pace. I cannot recall this happening at all in our last 5 or 6 games. At best it is a scrambled, pressured kick sideways or pressured handpass to someone under the hammer. What is the problem? How can a team with quality like Tom Mitchell, DeGoey, Nick Daicos, Pendles and Adams literally not win a clearance for an hour in a contest with four other players? It seems impossible simply by the laws of probability that the ball wouldn't spill in our direction or fall into our arms a few times.

If we don't remedy this issue the pressure on our defense in the finals will be overwhelming.

Hopefully Fly and Leppa (still) know a bit about Ruckman playing their role in September 😬

We've seen that McStay is important to our forward structure, so we'd want to avoid rucking him if at all possible.

We have steadily maintained our average centre clearance numbers for the whole season. Over the last 5 games the number is nearly identical to that of the season average. It is identical to Adelaide and nearly identical to the Lions numbers in the same field. Hawthorn, Melbourne & Carlton are 3 of the top 4 teams in that regard over he last 5 games

My eyes and those of my mates must be deceiving us. We seem to be smashed at centre clearances every week.

Oh was he? I missed most of that game. That would be big.
He returned to the side last week after injury - I haven't seen anything to say that he's likely to miss this week - the only reported out through injury is Gunston.

My faith in Fly and his coaching staff wavered for the first time when I watched Sicily dismantle us and we did nothing about it throughout the game. Before the first bounce I wanted Howe on Sicily and said so. It wasn't hindsight. How can four AFL coaches not see the need for quelling his influence?

Our last 5 differentials are: -4, -15(!!!), -1, +4, +3. The two positives being against Port & Freo.

The Hawthorn drubbing tips the scales significantly. Without that game, we have won more centre clearances than not over the previous patch
