Normally I’d agree, but coming off a 38 disposal game against relatively weak opposition, I’d have said it would have been likely that they’d give Fin a run if Mitchell was actually out.
As it stands though, I’m actually liking the idea of making the older guys the starting sub at this time of year. Managing their minutes strategically without having them actually miss games is a clever use of the sub rule.

HH wasn’t bad either and I don’t know if Fin has done enough to push past him in terms of how we pick our 23. I’m a believer in the view of sr36 that we pick for specialist positions and whilst the gap might be closing between him and the guys in the best 23 I still think that in squad rotation is preferred. Definitely agree that sub rotation with those older guys is a big tick from me.

I'm definitely serious. I'd prefer Carlton lose to Port. As I mentioned above, Port is one of the least concerning teams for me. The higher they finish the better.

But is it? The reason is that MacCrea is not going to be part of our finals team, so why play him. We need to see how our midfield goes without Mitchell, just in case. I would rather we do that with Crisp or Adams taking Mitchells spot, allowing us to work on that option.

Unfair on Mitchell as he is starring and probably does not want to be rested.
Leave that for players that are struggling with soreness.
Same goes for Pendles and many others.

Definitely get your angle, but a Port loss this week basically locks in top 2 if we were to win next week. I’m on the Blues bandwagon.

It's clearly a ploy to have players fresh to play us - with any luck, it will backfire.
I'm torn really - I want both Port and the scum to lose.

Playing macrae for 1 game would do more harm than good. Kid would likely struggle to have an impact in his first game back as young kids do, then be dropped again. And the wolves would come for him.

That's what I'm hoping too when I've said I hope it bites them on the bum. I also don't want either to win, maybe a really tough, brutal, soul destroying draw would suffice.

It’s unlikely Fin comes in at any stage for one of Mitchell, Pendles, JDG, Adams etc. because in that case we’d shift Crisp or Adams or Pendles inside more and pick a Ryan or HH or Ruscoe to replace the one that goes out. He needs two of that group to miss in order to come in.

He needed two outs pre Nick Daicos’ shift to the midfield he probably needs three now.

Fair enough I don't rate Port all that much either but I would still prefer to not let them have that minor premiership if we can help it

Yep. Love it. When we had Ginni or Harrison in the 23, the sub came from small forward, because that's where the excess player was. But now that Nick has moved into the midfield, that's where the excess is and where the sub will come from. There's no doubt that Mitchell, Adams, Pendles, Lipinski are much better allround players than guys like McCreery and Hill, but if you want a bloke to apply defensive pressure and sit out wide and break lines with pace to create goals, it's McCreery and Hill all day long. And Macrae is not yet in the conversation with Pendles, Mitchell and Adams, yet.

Melbourne would be a dream result for us and yes, just my opinion.

Our clearance stats have risen this year because of Titch’s ability to get first use. If Crisp and Adams were capable of getting first use like Titch, he would never have been recruited.

That’s definitely possible, but gut feel is he’s closer than that on the basis of Fly’s comments mid week. Unless that was fluff to keep him hungry which is possible I’m just not convinced.
