Are Port really resting 7 players this week end? That absolutely smacks of hubris to me.It looks like they’re sacrificing the Carlton game to be fresh for us.But it could backfire on them in a big way.

They're hitting the wall big time, which is a big call for a side on the winning streak like they are.

Fell over the line against Essendon with a 55m bomb from Houston, then they played 20min of decent footy last week.

No doubt they'll be freshening players up to throw the kitchen sink at us next week. Gonna be huge.

Yeah I would. I wouldn't consider it dropping, but managing. Macrae needs game time, is a similar player, and Mitchell is already only going to play 1.5 quarters.
I’m not sure about this. I don’t think getting minutes into a guy who’s between 27-30 on our list (the named 23 + Checkers, WHE and Cameron at a minimum) is a need this late in the season.

We're two games out from the bye. If I thought Mitchell was being "managed", I'd agree with you, but I don't think that's the case. I think we've picked our 23 and there's a surplus mid. We're going to rotate the mids. Pendles next week or the week after.

Your best 22 at the end of the year.

Will be very interesting to see how we go in clearances without Cameron in ruck or Mitchell on the ball.
I don't think Darcy is a good matchup for Cox, too strong. Expect Frampton will be first ruck. Jackson too mobile for Cox as well.

We'd definitely expect to be beaten in the ruck. Whether that translates to anything important, like clearances, is another question. Freo dominated hit outs v Blues but lost clearances. No Serong will make it tougher for Freo.

They aren’t. My scenario requires a HB or HF rolling up to cover the mid we lost. How can that make our scenarios the same if your suggestions is a mid rolling back to HB? That would leave us a mid down on our current preferred setup. If a HF or HB went out I don’t think we’d be shuffling things to make room for Macrae and was being generous with my concession he maybe gets in ahead of HH or Ginnivan.
Why is HB or HF “rolling up” needed? Macrae could just come in for the injured mid. And one of Ryan, HH, Ruscoe in your scenario is not needed.

Line up:

FB: Murphy Moore Quaynor
CB: Maynard Frampton Crisp
C: Side N Daicos J Daicos
CF: Hill McStay McCreery
FF: Elliott Johnson Pendles
R: Cox JDG Adams
INT: Lipinski Noble McInness McRae
SUB: Mitchell or Marcov

Attendance to be around 73k at the MCG

Collingwood out Will Hoskin Elliot (inj 3-4 weeks) Cameron (inj 1-2 weeks) have mitchell as sub or a complete out its a managed out
In: Side back on the wing Maynard to start off half back and McStay to start at CHF.

Cox to ruck most of the day but with help from Frampton and Johnson.

Other sub in could be Marcov.

Think its time to select Finlay McRae.

Have Adams to be in place of Mitchell Adams and JDG as main on ballers.

Pendles to start up forward but will blend into the midfield.

Nick Daicos as centre.

Collingwood to win it by around 26 points.

After been behind at half time by 8 points and quater time by 2 points.

Expect a tight first quater and second q then the pies click into gear and roll over the top of freo and win it by an easy 4 and a bit goals. So around say 26ish points.

I can't believe the AFL STILL hasn't made the sub naming a thing. I didn't even know Mitchell was sub until I read this thread. I just assumed he was being rested.

Suspect he gets subbed on for someone else in need of a rest (like an Adams) or likely Sidebottom, depending how the game pans out.
Look for the club announcement rather than the AFL one. We’ve been naming the sun early for months now and it’s posted almost the instant that teams are named officially.

I think McRae and his fellow coaches are totally focused on stability of line-up and getting as many games as possible into their preferred Finals team members. Wanting to maximise their team chemistry and trust to ensure that when the real pressure comes, they all know where each other will be and who is doing what.

I doubt niceties like getting games into Macrae or giving Ginni another chance is high in their thinking. Those guys will just have to bide their time, or leave.

Nailed it, Fly's a smart guy and been in good winning systems before, he knows the best things to deliver on the last dance.
It's all part of the tilt this year.
This is a hungry team with an astute coaching setup looking to maximize its position of adding that silverware to the cabinet.

I woke from a dream this morning that we played the Suns in the Grand Final. The scores were 100 to the Suns and 10 to us at quarter time. With the last 30 seconds of the game after fighting back hard, Nick launched a torpedo from outside 50 and we won.

That's got nothing to do with this week though (or reality and RIP Dew's coaching appointment), and I'm happy with the ins. There are going to be more magnet shifts between now and finals, but hopefully they're going to find that balance that leads to glory.

I'm not going to underestimate Freo, but even if they put up their dukes we'll get on top easily.

But why? Why not give someone on the fringe a chance. And he's more an accumulator anyway rather than an impact player.
Mate, that’s crap. There’s been games this year where Mitchell’s clearance work has been the difference for us. He’s not just an accumulator, that’s nonsense.

Preemptive resting. It’s what we should be doing. Hopefully Macrae gets a go.

Preemptive resting Hill and bringing in Macrae probably isn’t what we would be doing given Frampton and McStay are playing forward instead of Mihocek and Cameron.

Yeah, that's the debate isn't it? My thinking: if we get a few injuries -- say Adams and Mitchell together -- then someone like Macrae is likely to come in. Do we really want him coming in not having played at all this year?

Great dream
Naicos will get us there, but if we win it this year, it'll be Jordy that is the difference

No chance he comes in when it counts. We would move our flankers into the middle first and bring in more runners

Big chance for Mason Cox to back up his solo ruck effort from the GWS game when he played a career best ruck game. … he’s rarely had the opportunity to prove he is capable of holding down first ruck, and many pe pole assume as a result that he doesnt have the tank for it. I’m not sure that’s the case.

If he does succesfully achieve this tomorrow with Cameron again missing, the two ruck or one ruck and a kpp chopout debate will continue.
