We're two games out from the bye. If I thought Mitchell was being "managed", I'd agree with you, but I don't think that's the case. I think we've picked our 23 and there's a surplus mid. We're going to rotate the mids. Pendles next week or the week after.

Absolutely. I called this early in the week. With a full list of mids to choose from we will have the luxury of resting/rotating quality mid sized players through the sub bench.. whe when available, adams, mitchell, hill, markov, lipinski, Sidebottom, maybe Pendlebury ( not convinced we’d do that), mccreeery, maybe even crisp. Pretty much all of them except the small defenders, Daicii, Jordy, and Elliott!

Yeah, that's the debate isn't it? My thinking: if we get a few injuries -- say Adams and Mitchell together -- then someone like Macrae is likely to come in. Do we really want him coming in not having played at all this year?
If we get dual injuries this late in the piece to those guys 0 minutes or every game between now and then it won’t matter we’ll be in trouble. Non issue for me.

Why is HB or HF “rolling up” needed? Macrae could just come in for the injured mid. And one of Ryan, HH, Ruscoe in your scenario is not needed.
You’re joking, yeah? It’s because the player rolling up be it Adams or Crisp (as the two most likely) are much better footballers than Macrae. I mean come on let’s use some logic we’re not here to **** spiders!

Macrae’s time might come in 2023 and I think Finnish had the right of it he needs a couple of injuries to mids and that’s definitely not in our best interest. Even that may not see him get called up.

Look for the club announcement rather than the AFL one. We’ve been naming the sun early for months now and it’s posted almost the instant that teams are named officially.

Fair. The teams usually come out when I'm at the dinner table with my family... I usually get daggers across the table 😂😂😂

Ok - so it all boils down to you not having confidence in Macrae.

You’re basically saying that in your scenario juggling HB or HF with either HH, Ryan or Ruscoe is a safer bet than Macrae in the midfield.

I think it’s a line ball.

🤦‍♂️

No. For what feels like the eleventieth billionth time Crisp and Adams are safer midfield bets than Macrae. You then need to find a replacement for whoever of those two you’re moving into the midfield. In that scenario it’s likely HH if you choose Adams or maybe Ryan if you choose Crisp. If we were to lose two mids I’d say there’s a better than decent chance we roll both Crisp and Adams up then replace them the same way…

I’m done with this discussion because you either can’t or refuse to comprehend Fly’s selection policy. In all honesty I’m pretty much at the point where I want to see him picked so he has his Bianco moment and everyone can STFU about him until 2024!

Sco - relax mate.
Read my post again.
You’ll see I’ve already made the point you believe your approach is a safer bet.

Macrae McInnes Bianco Ginnivan Ruscoe etc are all perfectly good depth should they be called up in case of emergency and I have every faith they will deliver if asked.

However they arent best 23 and don’t need senior game time just for its own sake. They are getting quality match practice in the vfl. We still have Cameron Mihocek WHE etc to squeeze back into the team.

If both Brisbane and Port win this round we are in a real scrap to maintain our top 2 status in last 6 rounds. And avoid traveling to Brisbane or Adelaide week 1 of finals

Lol, that's the only reason why I wanted Fin selected this week .. just to show once and for all whether he's up to it and so people can stop complaining about him not being selected when there hasn't been any availability anyway..

Every decision on selection for the remainder of the year is to win a premiership. Keeping players happy or developing young players is not the priority.

This and only this.

Finn is stiff but he gets the greatest apprenticeship of all time learning off Pendles, Titch, Naics and JDG.

He can hone his craft and come into the side on a regular basis in 2024 onwards.

if you’d read my post you’d have seen that I wrote he’s ”more an accumulator“, not only one, but fine, be a dunce. If you don’t want to discuss it, go do something useful instead of actually commenting.

I mean, in his previous life he was definitely more of an accumulator. Collingwood supporters would be more acutely aware of that than most.

But his role has changed pretty dramatically since being at Collingwood. I mean, those of us excited for his arrival said repeatedly "We don't care how many possessions he gets, we just want to win clearances". Fly himself alluded to the same on a number of occasions.

We've gone from being one of the worst (if not THE worst) clearance team in the comp to one of the better clearance teams in the comp since his arrival.

Not sure his impact could be bigger than it is.

I personally would argue Tom Mitchell is the main reason (not only reason) we're 14-2 and top of the ladder this season.

His possession count is down compared to his previous seasons and we as a team are a "low possession" team.

Regardless of this round, our head to head with Port next week will be crucial.

The relative draws on the way home for the top three teams look like this….

Coll one tough away game v Port, while we play Brisbane at home. The next two toughest games based on current form ladder are ess and Geelong.

Port have two maybe three tough away games … Carlton Geelong Fremantle. Plus a showdown.. and a home game v Collingwood.

Brisbane also have three tough away games against both melb and Collingwood and a Perth trip to Fremantle. Their home games are all against top eight teams Geelong Adelaide and StKilda, a tougher run than ports home ground advantage games.

I reckon Collingwood have the best run home. Crucial games for mine are the games all three teams play v Geelong, plus the port-Coll, Brisbane- Coll, Brisbane- Mel and port-Adelaide games.

Given we are currently two games and a bit of percentage clear of Brisbane and their tough run home, we are well placed to hold on to a top two spot. But things change quickly with just one upset loss…

Captains run: bobby is here. No Elliott. And only fin is here from those named in the emg list

You could be on here No SPIN. It would be out there to leave Elliott and Mitchell out of the 23 and go with Macrae, but it now seems it’s a live chance. Amazing.

Agreed 💯 The coaching staff would be discussing his future and their plans for him constantly.

Our top 3 goal kickers are Checkers, Elliott and Hill in that order. Not high tallies but it would be far from ideal to go in without Elliott and Checkers.

Hopefully McStay can have some sort of impact. Doesn't need to kick more than 2 but with Cox rucking (currently 6th on our goal kickers tally) we need some decent output.

And solid D

If Elliot’s out I’d prefer Degoey spend more time forward. Lacking scoring power up there without checkers, cox rucking more as well and mcstay’s gonna be rusty.
