Ramsay is more an outside midfielder and yagmoor will be delisted, so we don't seem to have much there :p.

Really need to recruit one next draft

I was under the impression Ramsay was to be our Heath Shaw replacement - which would be fantastic I think.
Someone like Shaw, Enright, Yarran are fairly rare commodities these days when every player under 193 cm wants to be a midfielder.

Yagmoor I hope comes on this year but that's all it is, hope.

I don't think ramsay has anywhere near the 1 on 1 ability shaw has... maybe that can be improved on

I think the concern was more how easy they moved it through the middle, and I think Yarran really cut us open up forward. I think we need to try a more attacking player on him like Thomas or Fasolo to try and force him to defend.

Yarran was the one player i thought we needed to lock out in both games because he really was their playmaker from the back half. As a left field suggestion, what about putting Mooney on him? I know there will be doubts on his ability to punish the Blues going forward, but he has the pace and tenacity to really hassle Yarran. It would largely be a negating role, but I dont think its a bad one.

Don't like the idea at all, mooney doesn't have the game to negate someone would be totally out of his depth. He has the pace yes, but none of the other vital attributes to taking him out of the game.

I'm still confused with the idea of Hudson being on our list. Obviously we'd only have him there in case Jolly picked up an injury, and we didn't think Grundy and Witts were ready to play at senior level. But then wouldn't we need to play Hudson often enough in the VFL to keep him match fit in case he's needed, and that may interfere with the development of the 2 young lads?

Nup.

I reckon Hudson could quite easily play just a handful of VFL games and step straight into the seniors if needed. He will do all the training and has the experience.

you think a 34 year old will be able to cop with the pace of playing AFL with a few weeks off and a vfl game as preparation? No hope.

I dont think he will be our first choice. If Jolly goes down there will be a mix of options used....probably Witts for a couple of games, then Hudson, then Grundy.....bearing in mind we still have big Q to chip in. Theres every chance Hudson will play quite a lot of VFL games anyway (at least half of them) as the youngsters will get rested and or played in the seniors or even played at key position at times in the VFL.

He'll be fine. Its an adequate insurance policy. Hes slow as a glacier anyway so match fitness aint going to make him any quicker.

We are in a much better position than last year when we had way too many rucks in our VFL side. Now we basically have two, plus Hudson who doesnt have to play every week.

I don't think any of our forwards would really be suited to playing that role. I wouldn't want to see fasolo go to him. I don't think Carlton expect him to be that defensive player, he's a playmaking weapon and we would want to curb his influence if we're to knock them off

Why would garlett leave his friends and family in WA, to move to vic to play VFL? He wouldn't have a house, any friends, know where to go, might even get better money in the WAFL too.
Because he'll probably have mOre of a chance to get drafted playing in the vfl.
Look at it this way. West coast and Freo won't change their minds. He plays for a vfl team that is directly linked to an afl club. He has the opportunity to prove his character of worth to that club over 12 months. He will have 10 Victorian based clubs keeping an eye on him as well as the SA and QLD based teams. Garlett himself, His coach and others are saying that he needs to get away from Perth to help refocus on his footy.
What better way to prove his commitment and character to move interstate, combine full time work with playing VFL as well as seeking support from the AFL Collingwood for guidance and advice to try and start his career?

With Ball coming back and the recruitment of Young, I'd throw Daisy on him.
Daisy is good in the air, runs all day, has good disposal, tackles like a maniac AND would make Yarran play accountable football.
Then you could throw Young, Sidebottom, Beams, Swan etc.. on the wing.

Where is he going to live? How is he going to afford rent and food ect ect on a VFL player salary? What would he do with himself with no friends or family for a year ect ect. Everyone knows he has the talent, playing in the WAFL or VFL isn't going to change that. If he seems to of noticably matured in 12 months time then he will be taken

IMO i'd try put shaw on him, has the speed and one on one ability plus can hurt him the other way.

How about he gets a job and rents like all other people do and the rest of the vfl do? How about he makes some friends with his teammates and meets new people like every other human who relocates.

How desperate is he to play? It's not his talent that is in question it's his character. His coach openly said that he has matured but nobody listens to him. He has more to prove than the average bloke.

Thomas is an interesting one for next season, but you've made a good case for him.

Blaze, as much as I enjoyed shaw going forward last season, I think we'd be losing out on that match up, eliminating his run off half back in favor of a role that I don't think he can do particularly well.

Sinclair is the only one who could play that role, but I don't mind the call on Mooney either (although he is a little further back in development than Sinclair).

Hes the one i forgot about. His role on Gilham? in the QF was a pretty impressive defensive effort and could lead to a few more assignments like that. Id like to see him hit the scoreboard a bit more frequently and become a bit of a threat

The key to tagging someone like Yarran is to make him accountable. If guys like Mooney or Sinclair get the job, then they need to kick goals quickly.

If Yarran's opponent kicks 2 first quarter goals, then it forces the Blues to change the match-up. It also means that Yarran's opponent plays deeper, then he has to go with him.

To be honest, you probably need a few players to do the job because the Blues defence will try and roll over to free up Yarran. That means we need a few options to try and go onto Yarran to work him over.

I'd be look at a combination of Thomas, Fasolo, Krakouer and Sinclair.

I like the idea, but not the people.

Thomas would be decent in the role, but completely wasted as he has more talent than Yarran anyway.

Fasolo is slow and it would be the worst role for him you could imagine.

Krakour again would have no idea what to do and i doubt has the fitness to shut him down and then run forward.

Sinclair has virtually 0 1 on 1 ability, he is probably the best option out of the 4 but jeez i wouldn't put any money on him doing a decent job.

Here is one from left field, broomhead, to get an education and play a shutdown role on HFF, he has the speed and 1 on 1 ability and can be deadly on the rebound with great foot skills. Assuming he is physically ready. It is worrying how much of a struggle it is to find someone suitable for it.

For Yarran, surely Goldsack is the man. Tackling, pace and ability to score if the opportunity arises. Will scare him in the air too.

Could definitely go with him defensively, however williams would have no idea how to hurt him on the turn around. Good idea though.
Marley Williams has played plenty as a forward... He was only thrown into the backline permanently after he got to Collingwood.

Even in the NAB Cup last year he played forward, and kicked two goals.
