When does the VFL practice match schedule drop? Can't get to Princess Park and wont travel to Tassie so unlikely to see a senior preseason match live. A VFL practice match or 2 might be some compo.

Oh, forgot to mention. Looks like its gonna be a double header with carlton next week. Both AFL/VFL teams.

In what will be fans’ first chance to view the 2023 squad, the Carlton VFL and AFL sides lining up against Collingwood for a double header, kicking off at 11am.

It could be the first glimpse of new players or draftees for the Club, as well as a chance to see how the team are shaping up after three months of pre-season training, with some players floating across both the AFL and VFL squads in a four-quarter practice match. .

Only one I have for you is Collingwood vs Geelong at Olympic Park on the 18th of March

Much appreciated. It's a start. G the night before for the seniors v the Cats. Assume there'd be another the weekend before that.
Weekend before round one is an AFL weekend off, so some AFL clubs will opt against hosting practice matches that weekend. I know that the weekend of the 4th/5th of March all clubs have practice matches locked in where the stand-alone are playing each other and the AFL clubs are playing each other. I'm just not sure of the matchups as yet.

VFL Practice games:

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24
Carlton vs. Collingwood (IKON Park, 2pm, 4x25min)

THURSDAY, MARCH 2
Collingwood vs. Box Hill Hawks (AIA Centre, 7pm, 4x25min)

SAT March 18
Collingwood vs. Geelong Cats (AIA Centre, 2pm, 4x25min)

Well done to him - hope he's able to be a contributor.

How hard is it to secure a VFL contract and how do players get picked up?
Guess you are invted to train during the summer and then a bit like SSP, impress to earn a contract.

From what I recall from yesterdays VFL game:

Oscar was quite competitive in the ruck and around the ground, and took this nice mark.

Carmichael was probably our best, worked hard in the middle and kicked a couple goals.

Allan I noticed playing more inside mid, Ryan was still down back, in his natural element. We had a few that play wing so they probably figured to give him exposure in the middle.

Overall it was pretty hard to judge given the team got smashed.
But it was also a very young team.
4 of the VFL listed are 18 years old and just came outta high school.
Out of our regulars; we only had Scrieber, Glover, Hustwate playing. The others like Raines, Blackmore-moore, Maxted still pretty young and inexperienced.
Our backline was under siege. Kelly was the tallest out there, they eventually put Glover down back for a time given we needed the extra height given all the ball that was coming in. The defenders tried the best they could given the circumstances.

Definitely were missing a few of our regulars. But a friday morning would have been tough to tackle for these part timers.

Markov had a few nice moments with his run off half back, but otherwise unsighted.
I felt sorry for the forwards in Wilson/Murley/richards gven the ball mostly lived in Carlton's F50.

Johnson was unsighted and only played 2 quarters, along with ryan and allan, which meant in the 2nd half was when we got slaughtered, most of our afl listed were off the field. It was a tough day for them, but gave them a run and the kids a bit of exposure against men, especially those never played before. Or havent played much (1-2 games for last years NGA prospects in Ashwin and Voulanas)

Is he getting more composed in traffic? Last year under pressure he was either just hacking it off the ground or when he got it dump kicking it.
There was a few of the hack kicks, but seemed to be getting better, especially as you look at that stoppage goal.

Looks like we have lost a fair bit of VFL experience for “our” line-up this year.
from our regulars last year. Think we have only lost Wellings, Fowler. Hartley has gone on to coaching.
But because of the 11am start, would have been difficult for Tardrew to make the game. Lane and Booth were MIA prob work related.
