I cant see how you can leave goldsack out of the team? Just Baffles me. Sinclair is a massive no the bloke cannot kick

Poor kick, doesn't hit the scoreboard enough, fumbles too much. As a forward defenders don't care about him and it just makes it easier to double team Cloke, as a defedner we have many of his type that are ahead of him.

Whats everyones team looking like for round 1?

ff -Elliot White Fasolo
hf- Crisp Cloke Varcoe
c- Broomhead Adams Sidebottom
hb - Langdon Frost Seedsman
fb- Williams Brown Toovey

Foll - Grundy, Pendles, Swan

Bench - Goldsack, Blair, Kennedy, degoey (Sub)

Sinclair turns the ball over so much its just not suited to AFL football (i hope he proves me wrong)

Brown im really not convinced he is offering anything but with Keefe gone would say he keeps his spot unless goldsack can take a key defender

Anyone suggesting Cloke anywhere but forward is an absolute idiot.. If he fires we win usually.

Karnezis did ok against a box hill back line in our NAB match but still not convinced.

Crisp needs to play forward/Mid

Our Halfback line may need some experience thrown in (goldsack)

Blair needs to fire.

Cloke needs to use his tank (Nick Reiwolt like) while white needs to use his quick lead. If white doesn't fire throw in a kid (gault/moore)

I have probably missed good players out haha..

Actually the worst defence i've ever seen

Forward line is awful

Midfield is decent at best if Swan doesn't lift his game.

Oxley has to play IMO, especially if since Keeffe is most likely gone and Reid probably won't get up. One of the few defenders that can actually kick the ball.

I would give a more experienced team a chance and if it all fails anyway start introducing kids. We will be lucky to finish out of the bottom 4 if we just throw in a bunch of kids.

You can have as much experience in the backline as you want, but if you can't the ball out of their it's as useless as a screen door on a submarine. Oxley has been on the list for a while and showed a bit in the nab challenge. With how many poor kicks we've got coming out of the backline he has to play IMO.

So Gault is in front of Grundy now?

So Gault is in front of Grundy now?
I think it's the case a lot of people (me included) think we play better with 1 ruck and a third forward/ruck like Gault than what we would with both Grundy and Witts. Another view to some people is that Witts is currently better than Grundy. So it's a mix of two, how people want us to set up and who they think is our number 1 ruck.

FWIW, I also think it's Witts.

I think Witts is going better than Grundy - but we need to play them both IMO.

Just really surprised to see Gault being put in sides over either of them.

Prior to the draft lots of folks wanted us to get Peter Wright, coz tall guys are harder to find, right, and when asked where that would place Gault in terms of development and opportunity the attitude was pretty much 'he's a dud and will amount to nothing.' This was a lot of people's view over on Nicks.

I personally hold out great hope for Gault, but I also look forward to the days when we have the dominant ruck duo in the comp - not even too far away in the future I reckon, but we have to start playing them both every week IMO.

Gault should be pushing White out of the side

Hey guys.

Sorry to intrude but I along with mike123 have been active in posting best 22's for all 18 clubs on the main AFL board. Would love to get your thoughts on my Collingwood BEST 22. Not necessarily the Round 1 team but the best available.

FULL BACKS: Alan Toovey ~ Jack Frost ~ Ben Reid
HALF BACKS: Tom Langdon ~ Nathan Brown ~ Marley Williams/ Adam Oxley

MIDFIELDERS:
Steele Sidebottom ~ Scott Pendlebury ~ Taylor Adams
FOLLOWERS: Brodie Grundy ~ Levi Greenwood ~ Dane Swan

HALF FORWARDS:
Alex Fasolo ~ Travis Cloke ~ Ben Kennedy
FULL FORWARDS: Corey Gault ~ Jesse White ~ Jamie Elliott

INTERCHANGE:
Travis Varcoe ~ Paul Seedsman ~ Adam Oxley/ Marley Williams
SUB: Tim Broomhead

  • Initially I has Keeffe at CHB with Brown at FB but with Keeffe under provisional suspension Frost gets an opporntunity at FB where he played well during 2014.
  • Oxley's a relatively new IN for me as best 22 replacement for Freeman. Good size and ball user from the back line, Collingwood have made it there intention to get better ball use out of the back half and Oxley fits the bill.
  • Early days while Greenwood is out injured I'd like to see Jordan De Goey replace him in the 22. Give him some exposure in the tough environment, he proved in the pre season, although it was only pre season, that he can mix and match it with the men. Freeman another option as a strong bodied midfielder with break away pace.
  • Ben Kennedy I'd like to see play regularly as that Jarryd Blair HF who locks the ball inside 50. More of an attacking option than Blair and can play as a rotating midfielder as well.

Pretty close to mine. The differences in my team would be I favor Witts over Grundy at this stage.
Wouldn't have oxley or Williams on the bench and field would only take one, id swap that bench spot for Goldsack or potentially Crisp depending how he comes on.
Would swap Broomhead with Seedsman and hopefully one of the two new kids in De Goey or Freeman can muscle some of these guys out in an ideal world.

Love the input. I would have crisp in for a chance as he was good for Brisbane in his games last year. Also I thought broom head instead of maybe Gault but depends if we go 2 rucks
