Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Hard to know what to make of these stats without also knowing how much time each spent on ground.
Yeah your right... can be pretty misleading as i said on the original post, but none the less, gives us an idea of whet we are looking at. Any idea where we could find stats on the time spent on ground?

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Egan should be kept IMO 08 will be his last chance though he can do some freakish things with the ball in his hands, would make steve johnson etc look pathetic compared to what he can produce i know he hasnt done it at AFL yet but he needs some confidence.

he also has an understnding with cox and davis in general play i cant quite figure out those three know where the other is goign to be 15 steps before everyone else.

that last comment was in no way meant to be read as racist, i am not racist but there is a connection between those three

I can only assume you are joking.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

And you know he is soft and lazy how? Because of what he portrays to you? You have got to remember that the body language a person outwardly demonstrates is not always a clear indication of what is going on inside that person's head.
SOFT is used in the AFL venacular to describe someone who doesn't commit themselves physically to the contest when they have the chance/requirement to do so. Someone is judged as soft, or not, based on their actions. Egan is pathetically SOFT. That might change. I hope so for his sake it does. But to date, he has ducked his head and taken too many short steps far too often. He doesn't belong in your team. Your team has built a reputation on its physicality. On its aggression at the ball. He doesn't deserve to run out with Heath Shaw. He either needs to change or you should get rid of him. Don't make excuses for him or fall back on semantics to defend him. He is SOFT.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Before worrying about what the Lions would want, we need him to tell all that he wants to be traded to us.
Offer him over the odds financially if we have to.

That will reduce his trade worth as even though he's still contracted, if he was forced to stay and he didn't see much game time he either walks for free next year or his value drops anyway.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

I'm all for the pursuit of Wood, however, i would not go any further than offering pick 14. Adding Egan on top of that is out of the equation for my liking and i'm a big Egan fan and still believe he is a required player who will shine next season.

Effectively i think Warnock should be our back-up target if we miss out on Wood and i believe he would be less costly than Wood simply because of the 'go-home' factor if he wanted to come back home and play for us. Also i don't think he is worth more than a second rounder either.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Can't say I know anything about him . Our first pick is a bit to give up for him .

No, it's worth it. He's a young developing ruckman.

Brisbane are not short of ruckman either having re-signed Jamie Charman and while Matthew Leuenberger, Mitchell Clark and Beau McDonald are on their list, Cameron Wood may struggle to get a senior game for the Lions.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

I havent seen enough of Wood ... but does he have the capability to bulk up and compete body for body with Cox, Ottens and Lade? From the pictures i have seen he looks to have a similar physique to guy richards and fraser ... who both have seemed unable to bulk up in the last 3 or 4 years.

Also what is his play like around the ground? I thought Richards improved alot towards the end of the season at ruck contests (bar the preliminary final) but his decision making and disposal around the ground is pathetic.

If we get Woods i say we lock him up in the gym for 4 months with Buckley and Licuria.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Also apparently Darren Jolly and David Hale are up for trade as well and those two would be a better fit for Collingwood than Wood.

I honestly think the club should chase Jolly!! Has been around for a few years now and has established himself as a good ruckman. He proved this last season where he was the number 1 ruckman over Everitt at Sydney and was in the top 5 or 6 in hitouts overall. Can move forward and kick goals too which is handy in a ruckman, but the main focus is getting a ruckman that can take the majority of the centre bounces and win a high percentage of the hitouts. This would then allow Fraser to play forward more and give Jolly a break in the ruck when needed, as Fraser would be of more value playing in this kind of role than being the number 1 ruckman!!

Jolly is only about 26/27 and has the experience, so he still has quite a few years ahead of him and does eventually want to come home to Melbourne to finish off his career!! Not quite sure if is now but I have been told that they are his plans!!

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Also, if we (Collingwood) are any chance of being a premiership threat over the next 3 to 4 years which I think we can be as evident this season, then why not look for an already made ruckman!! Albeit, if not Jolly then King!! Only 28, so you would have to think that he has at least 3 years left in him and it was not that long ago that he was the number 1 ruckman going around!! He also proved his worth in the Grand Final and why he was selected, probably the most dominant big man on the ground!!

I think most would agree with you that Jolly would be very handy in black and white but queries a) on what would he cost, b) does he really want to leave?

Rumours out that he just signed a long-term contract with the Swans... :(

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

with so many ruckman lookin for a new club this trade season why would one not jump at the chance to say they want to come and play for the pies.

surely theyd have to look at the pies in the prelim and notice our ruck stocks are pretty poor atm and theyd have a fair chance to be number 1 ruckman.

Pfft. Wood is worth your first rounder. And when you consider the position your list is in, challenging for a premiership, Wood would be WELL worth trading for. Seen him in a couple local Sunnycoast games here late in the year and I think he'd have the potential to dominate in the AFL. The kid oozes class.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

If the Pies have pick #14 and they need a ruckman why would they not trade /use it for a ruckman?
What else are we hoping to get with it?

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

true i dont see why itd be a waste on a 19 20 year old ruckman who has shown a lot of potential and had some games put into him

other options are an older ruckman of 28 to 30 hudson or king
or drafting a young ruck which could take three years to develop

weve been blessed with the two irish boys, clarke showing so much this year. on top of that dyas being touted as further along than what clarke was at the same stage. thats like two potential top ten picks weve managed to get, if dyas turns out to be as good as clarke.

surely using a pick 14 on wood with a player to sew the deal up isnt going to hurt us or set us back for years to come

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

I agree.. use our strength in picks and trades for a ruckman then I would go after the two B's

Barhram and Batsanis.

There is a lot of talk about Batsanis at Port in the type of "I cannot believe we let him go"

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

I liked Warnocks aggression for a skinny guy...looked to have more agility around the ground than Wood. I'm weary of these skinny ruckmen being pushed around at clearances around the ground. What about a guy like Robert Campbell from Hawthorn or is that throwing dead wood on the fire...pardon the pun!

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Warnock will be very hard to get from Fremantle, he is their 2nd ruck behind Sandilands. You saw what happened when Sandi missed, they had to put Gilmore in as a ruckman. Wood is behind Leunberger, Charman and even McDonald and Clark are up there as options and they would be willing to listen to offers.

Re: Cameron Wood - your main target?

Mick Malthouse needs some of these...

Because if he and the recruiting team don't get Wood, there's going to be some explaining to do. :D

Offering pick 14 for Wood confirmed

http://realfooty.com.au/news/news/sa...695823230.html

Collingwood, like the Tigers and Saints, were declaring their interest in Brisbane ruckman Cameron Wood. The Magpies were contemplating the possibility of giving up their first-round pick, selection 14, to put the contracted 20-year-old into a black-and-white jumper.
Given the higher draft positions of both Richmond and St Kilda, who are eyeing Wood in the event that they miss out on Blake, the Magpies believe that it might take their first-round selection to win the day.
"He's under contract so we have to satisfy them (Brisbane) as well as convincing him to come," Collingwood football operations manager Geoff Walsh said.

Re: Offering pick 14 for Wood confirmed

If we took Dawson Simpson with our next pick that would be two ruckmen at 204cms and 207cms for the future
