Strange one from Damo today:

IF ...
the Roos drafted a ruckman kid out of Sandringham as the No.1 pick in the NAB AFL Mid-Season draft...

THEN ...
they should play him immediately, after their bye, against GWS. And that would be one almighty initiation for Jacob Edwards, playing against Shane Mumford in an AFL debut.

Does Mumford play in the backline

Ok, so not that it wasn't obvious, but that pretty much confirms to me that he doesn't actually watch football in any form ever.

He wants the teenage, developing, never trained with the side kid to come in, presumably to play ruck against mumford, meaning he would replace ****ing goldstein.

That's not even just a shit take. That is no knowledge of anything football at all.

Again, not surprising, but holy shit.

Footyology’s mid year B&F predictions. Pretty fair assessment IMO...

North Melbourne – Ben McKay
One for the defensive purists. While his twin brother has generated all the headlines, the similarly impressive (and similarly out-of-contract) Ben McKay has quietly gone about his business, claiming scalps and enjoying a career-best season. With the unavailability of Robbie Tarrant and Aidan Corr, McKay’s effort has been a gargantuan one. And whilst Josh Bruce certainly got a hold of the Roos in round three, no other key forwards really have, a strong performance given the amount of footy shooting into defensive 50 for the Roos this year. McKay is fifth in the competition in total one-percenters, and has only lost 13 defensive contests for the year.

In the mix – Ben Cunnington has been fantastic since coming back into the side, looking as fit as ever and winning stacks of clearances and contested footy. Skipper Jack Ziebell has taken to his new role as the designated kicker from defence and has racked up some huge numbers, as has Aaron Hall who looks settled into the line-up for the first time. Jy Simpkin has been a solid contributor, and Tarryn Thomas has enjoyed a month of fantastic form.

In a column full of bad takes, that one's going in the hall of fame. Oh my.

NORTH MELBOURNE

It’s hard not to be impressed with the way the Roos’ second pick, No.13 overall, Tom Powell, has adapted to AFL football, including gathering at least 18 disposals six times. His composure has already been well noted. They’ve also exposed No.3 selection Will Phillips (seven games) and fleet-footed Charlie Lazzaro (10) early and often. Phillips is yet to make his mark at senior level, but won a season-high 33 disposals in his last VFL game, in a sign he’s finding his feet after not playing in 2020. Ex-Tiger Connor Menadue has also filled a role for injury-ravaged North after being a rookie pick. Eddie Ford is settling in at state league level, but Phoenix Spicer (hamstring) is out indefinitely.

Early draft grade: B. Powell is the clear standout, but Phillips is the one they’ve invested most in and overlooked Logan McDonald to select. If Phillips takes off, this looks a handy haul.

Whats the bet that Essendon get an A? Funny that with 3 top 10 picks.

The reality is that Powell has been as impressive as Cox, whilst Perkins hasn't shown much more then Laz & Phillips has outperformed Reid.

It’s a true statement.
We did invest most in Will and overlook Logan.
If you’re assessing our draft, which the article seems to be doing, there’s nothing wrong with saying that.
They note it’s early days and WP has time to prove himself. Fine
it's not meant as a true statement, it's meant as a callback to bullshit calls of Logan was the better choice, no matter the qualifiers it puts on after. Otherwise they just wouldn't need to say phillips over logan. There's no point to it.

I guess the implication is that overlooking Logan McDonald was bad.

Call me old fashioned, but it's ludicrous to judge a draft after just 11 games.

You're old fashioned.

The two perfect times to judge a teams draft performance are 30 seconds after the draft finishes and the six months prior to it starting.

Do these idiots all just share the same lazy opinions?

There's 12 year olds on youtube who construct better draft analysis than this.

What actual "judgement" has gone in to this?

It's just a collection of the bleeding freaking obvious blended with regurgitated ignorance.
