Second Qualifying Final - At Home vs the Hawks again

Hey Wazzas, I'm feeding you another match review so assume the position.

For the second week in a row we were hosting the East Siders. Not a lot changed over the course of the two weeks, pretty much everything there was to be said was said the first time around but given the second time around was a final there was a bit more of a spring in our collective step. I did want to prevent our visitors making a fast start however, so landmines it was. Would they make a difference come Game Day? Or would lightning strike twice?

Both as it turns out. Yeah the landmines kinda did make a difference in that we only conceded four goals in the first quarter this week rather than the eight of the previous one, and by half time the margin was the same as when the game began. At this point I was hoping that we would have as strong of a second half as we did in round 18, and at a few points we did get out to a two goal lead. Then oldmate simulator woke up and realised who it was dealing with, allowing the bin chickens the final three goals of the game to hand us a five point defeat. So yeah lightning did strike twice. Guess I need more landmines.

The double chance means we get a second chance, with the Royals giving us a semi.

Second Semi Final - At Home vs the Royals

Greetings Wazzas, welcome to yet another round review.

In a move that some have commented as "pessimistic as heck", I decided to book leave during the finals. I would have gotten away with it too it wasn't for that pesky sim doing us dirty in the qualifying final, but it worked in our favour as it turned out. We got the double chance, and the Royals came to visit for a semi final in our last game at Van Cortlandt Park for Season 38. We had a great and/or horrible week in the banter stakes, I'm not sure.

We also had a game day. The first quarter was a bit of a shitshow as we conceded seven goals and kicked one. This somehow failed to deter us however, as we spent the next two quarters pegging back the deficit from 35 points at quarter time to a mere four points at three quarter time. And after kicking the first three goals of the final quarter we enjoyed a 14 point lead with 15 minutes remaining. It took five more minutes for us to lose that lead, before goals to TheInjuryFactory & The Filth Wizard in the final five minutes saw the 14 point lead reestablished at the final siren. A 49 point turnaround in three quarters that saw us progress into our first preliminary final since season 35, which is against the... oh, we're so boned.

Heroes such as FootyGuy13 (27 disposals/7 marks/2 goals), spudmaster (21 disposals/18 hitouts/4 tackles/1 goal), The Filth Wizard (5 goals straight), Ocha905 (21 disposals/6 tackles), TheInjuryFactory (19 disposals/7 tackles/1 goal), pantskyle (24 disposals/5 marks/2 goals), zackah (16 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), Dinsdale (15 disposals/6 marks/1 goal) and Piggy Smalls & Reginald Perrin (2 goals each). In fact everyone was a hero that day. The greatest hero though was me, who sacrificed the best part of the week slaving over a hot laptop for the good of the team, only to find myself banished to some winery or other in South Australia. All I do is give!

Good evening Coney Island, BigFooty's Tonga Bob here. It's hot as balls and so's the weather, amirite?

[pause for laughter]

I've called you all here today to help celebrate the 21st Frankston Rover Medal ceremony. Some may have questions, such as "What is the Frankston Rover Medal?" and "Hasn't the Frankston Rover Award already been handed out?" and "Why can't you afford a proper suit Bob?". Well whoever asked that last question shouldn't shame my Santo Vincenzo fashion, but the other two questions are valid.

The Frankston Rover Medal is one of two awards across the league named after Frankston Rover - club founder, inaugural captain, former league administrator and Sweet FA Hall of Famer. It recognises the best Warriors player of the season as voted by you, and has been won by eight currently listed players, from Lord_Flashheart in season 18 through to quite frankly (pun indented) an absurd fifth win for pantskyle last season. We will also be awarding the Wooshette Medal for the season’s leading goalkicker and the Pwned Trophy for the player whose post made the opposition melt the hardest and the rest of us laugh our arses off. And there will be hijinks. Man will there be hijinks!

I don't know about you lot, but I consider season 38 to be a success. We started the season by luring a genuine superstar of the SFA in Barrybran to Van Cortlandt Park, and kowtowed enticed two rookies to the club, brian_muz and raffrox. On the field we finished the home and away season in second place with a 9-7 record in The Filth Wizard's first season of his second stint in the Admin's chair. We then made it to a preliminary final meaning we won a final, with our two post season losses being against the teams who would face off in the Grand Final. Our reserves team the Coney Island Prospects fared better though, taking out the SPAM Grand Final! Agent93 dominated the ruck, Mofra led the goal kickers & Snuffaluphagus was BOG in the decider.

We did well with league accolades again. TheInjuryFactory not only picked up a third Frankston Rover Award for going above and beyond across the league, but he was also inducted into the prestigious Sweet FA Hall of Fame in what was a Red Letter evening for Coney Island as the other inductee was former captain and Friend of the Warriors Wosh! We also had Dinsdale pick up his second All-SFA blazer after being named at centre half forward in the team, and I'm quietly confident that we may have more to celebrate once the final award of season 38 is announced in the next week or so.

The new season is a couple of weeks away, and like always we aren't resting on our laurels. Or anyone else's laurels, that would be weird. While other clubs chop and change willy nilly, we at Coney Island are all about stability which means our name will remain the same, our leadership group will remain the same, our guernsey will remain the same and our core values & culture will absolutely remain the same.

In saying that we will be welcoming some exciting new talent to Van Cortlandt Park in season 39, and with that I'd like to take this opportunity to give you an exclusive and welcome both Riviat and jannissary to the club! Riviat joins us from the East Side where he leaves with a premiership medallion and 127 games of experience under his belt, while jannissary will spend his sophomore season and beyond with us after serving an apprenticeship at Baghdad. I will release a media statement in due course with this announcement (as is the style at the time) as there are a couple more irons in a couple more fires but for now please join me in welcoming both Riviat and jannissary to Coney Island. I also want to take this opportunity to wish Ocha905 all the very best as he takes a gap year from Coney Island to travel the world and discover himself. Fear not though, I'm positive that we have not seen the last of Ocha in Warriors persimmon. Godspeed fella.
